5 Things to Love about Econobum
June 7, 2017 8:00 am | by

I’ve been using cloth diapers for nearly two years. In the beginning, I had mostly Flip, a few bumGenius 4.0’s, a couple Freetimes, and one Elemental. Over the years, I’ve collected a few more of each, and picked up some Econobum when they were on sale. Flips have become my go-to diapers, so it seemed like Econobum would be a pretty easy transition… And I was right! Econobum diapers are great.

Why I love Econobum

1. Change absorbency.

Econobum offers a great set of prefolds, but it’s easy to switch out inserts to get the perfect level of absorbency. That goes both ways – add more for a heavy wetter or find the trimmest option you can get away with!

2. Pack less.

When I use Econobum diaper covers, I can usually just wipe it out and change the insert. That means my diaper bag is a little less bulky because I have less to transport around. Win!

3. Budget-friendly.

The Econobum line is less of an investment, so it makes a great introduction to cloth diapering. The Full Kit is a great option for someone who is on the fence about trying cloth diapering.

Long before I worked at Cotton Babies, I remember going to the Cloth 101 class at the store. During the demo, the instructor said something like, “How easy do you need your cloth diapers to be? If you need it to be as easy as a disposable, an all-in-one is perfect. If you want to save a little bit of money and are comfortable doing a little bit of folding, Econobum is a great option.” Personally, my stash is a mix of convenience and cutting costs. I prefer using Flip and Econobum, whereas my husband and daycare prefer all-in-ones.

4. Great design.

Designed to fit babies from 8-35+ pounds, these diapers are built to last. They don’t have stretchy tabs like Flip or bumGenius, but it’s still easy to get a great fit. Depending on which insert I use, I sometimes do adjust the 3×3 snaps – especially now that I have a toddler on my hands. Also, I really enjoy the white design with color accents. Very sleek!

5. Quick drying.

I toss my inserts into the dryer, but I hang dry anything with PUL. When I wait a little too long to wash diapers, it feels like a race against the clock waiting for diapers to dry. Luckily, my Econobum and Flip covers are always dry before anything else. Honestly, I’ve pulled them out of the washer, wiped them down with a towel and they were practically good to go.

Overall, I’d recommend Econobum diapers. They’re basic, but they get the job done and won’t break your wallet.
