5 Tips to an Easy Spring Clean

It’s happening! Spring is knocking on our door. Birds are chirping. Daffodils, tulips, and hyacinth are climbing their way out of the ground. AND you can finally open the windows! Suddenly you get that itch, that twitch!  It’s Spring! Move all the couches it must be time to CLEAN. Here are 5 Tips to an Easy Spring Clean.

5 Tips to an Easy Spring Clean

  1. Open the windows, open the doors!

With the goal of HVAC efficiency, many of us have done a great job of sealing up our homes so that we don’t let warm air out in the winter and cool air out in the summer but with that we’ve sealed a lot of air in our homes. Especially with this most recent flu season, it’s a good idea to open your windows and doors for 5-10 minutes. Just let the fresh air flow through and move out that staleness that’s been hanging in the air.

  2. Hunt down those dust bunnies

Move the furniture, get out the broom and vacuum and go to work. Go the extra mile and get out the mop, too. If you have hardwood or tile floors, you should try Better Life Floor Cleaner. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable, and safe for your kids and pets. AND we never deal with streaks or fogginess when we use it on our floors.

  3. Wipe down doorknobs and household handles

Doorknobs and cabinet handles often become overlooked in the regular cleaning process. It’s easy to see that spot of spaghetti sauce on the counter but we forget all the places we touch on a daily basis. Grab some All Purpose Wipes and just wipe them down.

  4. Clean your washing machine

Do you have a front loading washing machine? Then, for all of its greatness, you probably have experienced one of the not great features -sometimes they just stink! Here’s an easy way to clean your front loading washing machine.

  • Choose the hot water setting. If your machine does not have a hot water setting, then select a “white” or a “stain” cycle setting.
  • Select the “extra rinse” option if your washer has that choice.
  • Add ¾ cup of white vinegar to the to the bleach dispenser or fill to its max level. (OR use ¾ cup non-chlorinated bleach.  Do not combine bleach and vinegar.)
  • Allow the cycle to run until it has completed.
  • To ensure that no vinegar remains in your washer, manually select an additional rinse cycle if your washer does not have a 2nd rinse cycle selection.

    5. Create a Spring Clean Checklist

Don’t overwhelm yourself with all the cleaning tasks. Spread them out over a couple of weeks and then…REPEAT. 😉 Assign tasks to different people in your household so that you can all work together to get the job done.

Super secret bonus tip! You don’t have to dread your spring clean!

Keep in mind, Spring is beautiful. It feels like the world is waking up. Don’t approach these tasks with dread. Put a smile on your face, crank up your favorite music and dance while you’re doing it. Get the whole family involved and plan a special treat for the end. So maybe our 5 tips to an easy Spring Clean is actually 6. Either way, get it done, you’ll be glad that you did! 😀
