Breastfeeding Hack: Haakaa Silicone Pump

Meet Haakaa

Hey breastfeeding mamas! Listen up because you need to hear about the Haakaa Silicone Pump with Suction Base.

Expressing milk just got easier thanks to this handy little pump. The Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump is a simple collector that only uses suction. Made from just 1 piece of 100% food grade silicone, simply suction it to your breast. It does all the work and draws your milk out using suction. Best of all, it’s silent. You can get some relief without waking a sleeping baby or take a conference call without the loud noises of an electric breast pump.

This soft and comfortable pump is great for traveling due to its small size. It does not need to be charged or plugged in. The new and improved design of the Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump with Suction Base helps make sure your liquid gold won’t fall over and spill.

This pump can also be used to collect milk while your little one nurses on the other side. For me, this was especially helpful in the early days of breastfeeding. I still use my Haakaa to add to my freezer stash.

Enter to win one of your own now or get yours and coordinating accessories like the adorable Haakaa Silicone Flower Stopper at Cotton Babies.

My breastfeeding journey had a very challenging start so one of the best pieces of advice I can share based on my personal experience is to stick with it, seek support from more than one person, believe in yourself and trust that you are giving one of the most precious gifts to your baby… and it won’t hurt forever! Breastfeeding has become one of my absolute favorite activities to share with my sweet little boy. Now that he’s a toddler, I cherish the tender snuggles I get while breastfeeding because he’s a VERY busy little guy these days!

My tip is to use one of those reminder clips that can be attached to your bra strap. It’s not noticeable under clothing and you won’t forget which side you were on last.

Always keep a calorie dense snack, like a granola bar, and a hydrating drink, like water or unsweetened tea, on hand. It is hungry and thirsty work!

Breastfeeding tip. Baby led feedings make the first few months easier on the whole family. Baby slings keep your baby close to you and allow your lives to entwine as you learn about each other.

I think the best thing to know about breastfeeding is that it isn’t all or nothing. My milk didn’t come in until day 5 and my baby needed to have some formula to ride home over until it came in. Then after he was 6 months, I didn’t have enough milk for him but kept on breastfeeding and supplementing.

When my baby was born, she had a hard time latching. Her and I both struggled. I discovered a nipple shield and it was magical! It helped our bonding and set our breastfeeding journey up for success! Another tip: don’t stress!

Breastfeeding was very difficult for me and my son, but through persistence we were able to breastfeed until he was 19 months old. My best advice is don’t give up just because it’s difficult or because your baby doesn’t seem interested. Keep trying and talk to other breastfeeding moms for support! (I’m currently pregnant with baby #2 and plan to breastfeed again. Hoping it’s easier this time 🙂

Lightly squeezing the breast or massaging it while feeding can help produce more milk& help make a faster letdown.

My best breastfeeding tip is don’t give up the first few times it seems it isn’t working! Breastfeeding is HARD. So many people act like it is so natural and easy and comes without struggles. That is not the case for most women. It takes learning for mom and baby and trial and error to succeed. Seek help from a BCLC and keep trying I promise it is worth it!

My best breastfeeding tip is to keep yourself hydrated and snack constantly (with healthy snacks 😉 )

The first two weeks are the hardest! Contact a Lactation Consultant, if you’re having difficulties!

Nurse on demand, even if it seems you’re just nursing all day. Your little one is just trying to help up your supply 🙂

Learn as much as you can before your baby is even born. Take a breastfeeding class, meet lactation counselors in your community, find other moms who’ve breastfed, practice positions. Those who learn ahead of time are a few steps ahead of those who are trying to learn right after their babies are born.

My favorite trick to help increase my production when I went back to work… pump FIRST in the morning, THEN let my boy eat. He was way more efficient at draining me, so I knew I got every last drop, and my body was like “woah!” so it started producing more, and my pumping session at work was way more productive! Plus I knew he would get fed at day care as soon as he got hungry, so I was never worried he didn’t get enough in the morning. Plus it was a nice relief to be completely empty to start off my day!

I’m a big fan of nursing laying down. Takes stress off of my body and it helps my now toddler calm down.

At the beginning anytime you think your baby might be hungry, just feed them, don’t worry about trying to make a schedule.

Breastfeeding tip: let baby fall asleep while nursing. That just means they’re full. They don’t have to eat for a certain amount of time and don’t need to be woken up to be fed every so many hours. Your baby will eat when they’re hungry. And your breasts will always produce enough milk to feed your baby. Trust your baby and body to know what they’re doing.

Don’t get discouraged, keep trying even if it doesn’t come right away. After trying for a month and almost giving up, my little one finally took to it! So, don’t give up, it’s the best thing in the world. <3
