Everyone wants to ask, “how’s the new baby sleeping? Is he sleeping through the night?” No, Carol. No, he is not. My kids don’t sleep. At this stage, I’m willing to try anything, including the Lamby Lambskin Cuddle Rug.

My babies are not bad babies. They just want to be snuggled. Coincidentally, I love to snuggle them. It’s not a bad thing. Most of the time, this arrangement makes me pretty happy. We have our routine down. I go to bed early while my husband tends to our infant. Usually, he wears him in a Moby Wrap. After I get a few solid hours, it’s my turn.

As this little guy nears 4 months old, I think it’s time for all of us to get some better rest. Soon, I’d like to move him into his crib. He comes to work with me, and most of his naps are taken in a Tula or a XOXO Buckle Wrap. I really think he would sleep better lying down on his own.

Desperate for ideas, I turned to the ladies behind Cotton Babies Customer Service. They had a few tips, and one of them was to give the Lamby a try. I had heard about Lambskin blankets in the past but thought of them more as a cute prop for photos (which they absolutely are).

Operation Research: Lamby

Next stop was Google. I read some reviews, and it seemed like these were checking out. Apparently, Lambskin blankets are used around the world. Their original use was to prevent pressure sores for the elderly, and eventually, they started to be used in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). For centuries, natural lambskin has been used around babies because of its temperature-regulating properties that keep babies cool in the summer and warm in the winter. As an avid user of wool diaper covers, I can attest that wool is great year-round.

Before buying, I was choosing between the Lamby and a less expensive alternative. The Lamby is machine washable while the other version was not. Knowing my kid loves to spit, the Lamby was the easy choice. Fun fact, they’re also flame resistant.

Lamby Results

The first time we tried the Lamby, Tommy was legit screaming. I had just changed his diaper, his tummy was full, and he was surely tired. I placed the Lamby inside the Pack N Play. I laid him down. Literally, within 3 seconds, he stopped crying. He wiggled around a bit and smiled happily. Are. You. Serious?! I was in disbelief. Never had this child been content laying down on his back on his own without constant entertainment. It lasted 20 minutes, and it was 20 minutes of bliss. Worth every cent in my opinion.

We got home and I tried it again in front of my husband. It worked. We were both impressed and Tommy was happy. The next day, he took an honest to goodness nap on it. For us, it’s been a miraculous gift.

The soothing effect of this Australian Merino lambskin is real. I read that it caresses like a parents loving arms. It definitely feels good!

One tip I read was to use the Lamby while traveling. The familiar feel and smell can help baby feel like they are at home. Sounds good to me. I know I sleep better with my own pillow.

Based on the AAP’s safe sleep guidelines, I will not be using the Lamby in Tommy’s crib. I only feel comfortable allowing him to sleep on it when I am awake and can see him.
