Real Mom Talk: Family New Year’s Resolutions
January 7, 2015 7:36 pm | by

Nbio picow that it’s a New Year, I’ve decided to focus more on what I can do for my family instead of what I can just do for myself. I’m not one to usually make New Year’s Resolutions because I always feel like I can and always work to improve, but I felt like I could use the new year as motivation and I’ve decided to focus on my family new year’s resolutions.

This year, I’m going to improve our family life. Changing things for the whole family can be difficult if it’s too drastic or something they’re not on board with. For this year, I’ll be bearing the brunt of the changes and my family is just along for the ride!

Family New Year's Resolutions- Meal Planning

Family New Year’s Resolution #1 – Meal Planning

I really wanted to find a way to save money with the budget we currently have. I’ve noticed a lot of waste, especially with produce and other foods, which means we’re just throwing away money. Sure, that bag of salad was only $3, but $3 a week can add up! I’ve found that with planning out our meals, I’ve saved an average of $50-$75 per month at the grocery store. This has also saved us from running out for fast food multiple times a week. When you have a plan, you’re more likely to start dinner a little earlier than 7 o’clock. Check out this helpful blog with Three Quick and Easy Dinner Recipes.

Family New Year’s Resolution #2 – Organizing

This isn’t something I’ve 100% tackled yet. Our house has very little storage. We have no basement, no real attic, and small closets. We have a 3-bedroom house and currently, the third bedroom is used for storage. This room looks like an episode of hoarders. It’s scary. Boxes are up to the ceiling, you can’t walk in there.. it’s horrible to even admit. But I am going to make myself clean stuff out. I just can’t take it anymore!

Family New Year's Resolutions - Cleaning Schedule

Family New Year’s Resolution #3 – Cleaning Schedule

I’m going to try and get on a better cleaning schedule. My house can be cluttered with dog hair rolling across the floor. Gross, I know. I just haven’t gotten on a schedule to keep up with it. I get overwhelmed if it gets to a certain point, so I’m going to do my best to not let it ever look like that again. I’ve been taking at least 30 minutes to tidy up and put things where they go, straighten up the bedrooms and main living area before bed, and have the dishwasher empty after lunch so they’re ready for dinner dishes. So far, so good!
