It’s that time of year again! Parents of school-aged children will be packing lunches and sending their littles off to school. This is my first year sending off a child for the whole day so it’s also my first year packing a lunch for my oldest daughter. She’s excited. I’m a nervous wreck, but with a smiling face to not show my worry. To make my life a little bit easier, and her day a little brighter, we picked out some super cute lunch containers!

We’re a huge fan of Skip Hop in our house so it was a no-brainer that we would end up with some of their lunch containers. I’m hoping they eventually come out in more of their zoo characters because we just can’t get enough of their backpacks and lunch boxes. Have you seen the Hedgehog? The Unicorn? The Cow? Seriously, they’re adorable. Aubrey picked out the Butterfly character to match her pink and purple lunchbox.

The insulated food jar was a big “must-have” for me. She’s used to hot meals for lunch (with the exception of the occasional PB&J), so I wanted her to still have the home-cooked lunch she was accustomed to without settling for school provided lunch.

The Skip Hop Insulated Food Jar is made with a stainless steel body and is designed to keep food warm for up to seven hours or cold for up to five hours. This means I can send along some warm chili or chicken noodle soup in the fall/winter and it won’t be cold when she goes to eat it at lunchtime. It also comes with a matching spork (spoon & fork in one) that connects easily to the jar. I love this because I won’t have to worry about forgetting to put it in her lunchbox and she’s less likely to throw it away! Some other ideas for this jar would be spaghetti and meatballs, mac n cheese, or her absolute favorite, broccoli cheese soup!

I also liked the idea of the Skip Hop Lunch Kit. My favorite features are the zoo characters we love on the leak-proof lid, along with a “snack” container inside that has its own lid, perfect for pretzels or veggie chips. If I’m packing some soup, I can use the lunch kit as a veggie holder and use the snack container for some ranch! I also love the idea of putting her PB&J sandwich in the open portion of the box, knowing it won’t get squished by the apple or drink in the lunchbox. Even better? It’s dishwasher-safe. I don’t know about you, but I’m not a fan of hand-washing things on a daily basis.

I’m so excited to see Aubrey start Kindergarten this month! And I can’t wait to get some more use out of these lunch containers! I’m sure they’ll handle the school year perfectly and provide my daughter with a smile as she opens up her lunchbox. She absolutely loved picking them out and I love that it makes packing her lunch just a little bit easier. Plus – no waste! I love knowing she won’t have a bunch of plastic baggies to throw away everyday.
