Truly Genius Tuesday, Featuring Louis
February 7, 2017 11:34 am | by

It’s Truly Genius Tuesday! Is that music to your ears?! Maybe you can guess who we’re trumpeting this week? Maybe we should just give the puns a rest and get down to business… This week’s genius is the jazz legend himself, Louis Armstrong!

Louis was the first musician celebrated in our Genius Series in December 2014. Mozart joined him in August 2016… and Giovanni… or rather Accidental attempted to be a genius in April 2016.

Louis Armstrong was an incredible musician and singer, known for his innovative performances on the trumpet and deep, gravelly voice. He made a foundational impact in the music industry that many artists imitate to this day. Louis’ gifts led to a historical shift in jazz music.

“Though the history of jazz is filled with many exceptional and innovative musicians, it is hard to find any one who has had as profound an influence on the movement as Louis Armstrong.” – NPR (1)

This is a common thread in the characteristics of each individual in our Genius Series: HARD WORK. Mr. Armstrong knew that was an important key for his success as well.

“I was determined to play my horn against all odds, and I had to sacrifice a whole lot of pleasure to do so. “ ~Louis Armstrong (2)

Louis grew up in poverty in New Orleans, Louisiana and he found a way out of it with his music. He focused his efforts on his passion at a very young age, and not only did it change his life, it changed the face of music we know today. He performed on street corners, riverboats, small clubs, orchestras, and eventually he became a Hollywood star. As he was rising in fame, jazz music was also gaining in popularity, his style was new and different, he wasn’t afraid to change melodies and push the limits of music.

His life is fascinating. His talents are truly incredible. He changed the face of music as we know it today, so perhaps the best way for you to enjoy his genius with us is simply to listen. While researching this blog ,we came across this video and wanted to share it with you.

TODAY ONLY, Louis Genius Baby Tee’s are $2 off, and we’ve have added some bumGenius and Flip cloth diapers back to the website! Now available while supplies last.
