Freezer Meals
October 17, 2012 1:00 pm | by

With the arrival of Baby #4 looming on the horizon (that Halloween due date is approaching more quickly than I’d like… thankfully I have a history of sailing right past that due date and having baby hang on for as long as possible), I’ve started to think about getting my freezer ready. While my husband is wonderful and more than willing to cook when he’s called upon to do so, that’s not normally part of his household contribution. I mean, he basically does everything else so it’s the least I can do. Witt that in mind, I’d like to have

What is Hook & Loop?

Prepping Cloth Diapers

If you are just starting to research cloth diapers, chances are you have encountered the phrase “hook & loop.”  Outside of the cloth diaper industry, Hook and Loop is not a common phrase. There are a lot of other things you could associate the term with, but either way, you aren’t alone if you are wondering exactly what this means. Hook & loop is the generic term for the type of closure you might call Velcro or Aplix. Just like Kleenex and Puffs = tissues; Velcro and Aplix = hook & loop closure. Easy, right? But not exactly something you

Babywearing – Not just for moms
October 12, 2012 3:30 pm | by

Before I share my story, let me tell you a bit about myself. I am not a parent. I do not have any children of my own, but I really enjoy being around kids and like to babysit.   So it’s Saturday night and all my friends are out enjoying themselves while I’m … BABYSITTING. It’s okay. I made this choice. I wanted to babysit for my friend and co-worker, Melissa. I even volunteered myself for the job.   I get to Melissa’s house around 6pm, just like she instructed. I walk in, say hello, then run off with my

Time for a Change
October 10, 2012 3:00 pm | by

Oh the joys of the first born baby! Remember how you kept little charts and records of when they ate, how long they napped and every time they pooped? Honestly, I don’t really remember doing it, probably due to sleep deprivation, but I do know I found my little notebook that documented my firstborn’s first weeks several months later. It was in my own handwriting, so I must have done it. Somewhere along the way, life happened and I began to forget about diaper changes amongst all the other parenting duties. The thing that makes cloth diapers different than disposables is

Tuesday Giveaway: Sleep like a baby!
October 9, 2012 2:30 pm | by

Don’t you just love how people love to use that phrase “sleep like a baby”? That is, until they become parents and quickly learn how babies actually sleep. If I could actually give you sleep in today’s giveaway, I would. As a parent, I know how precious sleep is. But since I can’t give you sleep, I’ll try to give you the next best thing… a cloth diapering accessory that (hopefully) helps your little one sleep just a bit longer at night. We are often asked how to prevent cloth diaper leaks in little ones at nap and bed time

Do I have to wash bright colors six times?

Prepping Cloth Diapers

With our recent sales, we know many of you have been adding new colors to your cloth diaper stash. If you purchased a bumGenius cloth diaper or Flip cover with dark-colored tabs, you may have noticed a small sticker on your diaper that states: “IMPORTANT: Prewash dark color diapers 6 times separately before washing with any other products.” This means that for these brighter, bolder colors, we recommend washing them with like colors for the first 6 washes to avoid any transfer of dye to other lighter colors. But these do not have to be six consecutive washes before your

Fall Styles from Kicky Pants
October 5, 2012 4:30 pm | by

I love fall and almost everything that goes with it – pumpkin treats, football, hikes through a forest as leaves fall and bonfires. But as a mom, fall is not my favorite season when it comes to managing my little ones’ wardrobes. Yesterday it was 81 degrees here in St. Louis. Today it’s rainy and we hit our high temperature a few hours ago at 55. That makes it a challenge to keep your little ones comfortable and cozy through all the weather changes. That’s part of why we love Kicky Pants! Whether they are indoors or out, warm or

Becoming Mary Poppins
October 3, 2012 4:05 pm | by

When I take out my children for a few hours away from home, I often long for Mary Poppins’ bottomless carpet bag full of necessary items. Keeping little ones entertained at a restaurant, family function or public venue is usually a monumental task. With little ones, it can be hard to keep a well stocked diaper bag while also keeping the items inside fresh and interesting. With a few kids and many outings under my belt, I have a few tips to share if your diaper bag needs a refresher or you are just beginning to venture out with an inquisitive toddler.

Tuesday Giveaway: Gateway to Green
October 2, 2012 12:00 pm | by

One of the things I love most about cloth diapering is that you can do it in baby steps (pun intended). You can start with a few cloth diapers, then expand once you get the hang of it and find a style you like. If you are like me, once you master cloth diapers, you start looking around for other reusable products to add to your green arsenal. That’s why I think cloth diapers are a gateway to a greener lifestyle.   Once you cloth diaper, a logical next step is to add cloth baby wipes. Sure, you can use
