I have been thinking a lot about how blogs review our products and how we want you, our customers, and faithful cloth diapering champions, to consider those reviews as you research the many cloth diapering choices that are out there.
In July, I posted a blog that talked about the Cotton Babies approach to bloggers reviewing our products – http://clothdiapers.blogspot.com/2009/07/bumgenius-cotton-babies-reviews-are.html. Until this point, we have taken the “let them come to us” approach and, upon reviewing their blog, we have decided whether or not to send a sample for them to review.
We have come to realize how much we appreciate reviews done by companies like Consumer Reports, who pay for the product they review. Since they pay for it themselves, we find their reviews are that much more reliable, unbiased and authentic.
With that said, we are trying out a new – rather unique – approach to product requests from media. We will no longer be providing product for review…even if you ask nicely and have a devoted following the size of New York. 🙂 We know that we are going about this a bit differently than other companies like us, but we think this is the best way to ensure that what you, our customer, is reading about Cotton Babies’ products is not bought in any way, shape or form. Reviews should be based on real life, real experiences.
We want you to review our products on your blog, we love that you talk about us, and our products – and we love knowing that you reviewed our product because you had an honest, unsolicited, unrewarded opinion.
As the FTC discusses regulating product reviews on blogs, we want to take our company and our products out of the mix. We have never paid anyone for a review, we have never asked anyone to review our product unless they came to us first. But we want to take the revolutionary step of saying that no product was given for the review you are reading.
So if you want to review our wonderful diapers, accessories, etc. please purchase through cottonbabies.com. We are confident you will love them as much as we do. We also believe that your words will carry more weight as your readers know that you spent your own time and money on the products that you are reviewing.
