Amanda is a stay-at-home mom of three who keep her on her toes! Her family resides in Columbus, Ohio — the Buckeye state! She ventured into cloth diapering a little "late," but is a firm believer in "better late than never!" Real Mom Talk: Fall Activities
September 23, 2014 8:34 pm | by

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Leaves falling off the trees, windows open, candles burning, pumpkin and apple everything, ohhhh yes! Fall is here! My family has a few traditions we do every year that makes us happy that summer has ended.  Apple Picking. We love to go apple picking at a local orchard. We take pictures, eat apples while picking them, and just enjoy being outside with our family. The week after, I make a bunch of homemade applesauce, apple pies, and other apple yummy treats. Pumpkin Picking. We love picking pumpkins as well! We

Real Mom Talk: Reusable Products
September 16, 2014 6:55 pm | by

There are so many reusable products out there! Of course, my favorite would have to be cloth diapers, but I like so many others too! Reusable products help cut down on waste, save money, and can come in some cute designs and colors that throw away products don’t. Reusable sandwich bags – My husband packs his lunch almost daily. Sandwiches, chips, snacks… it really adds up. He could take up to 5 plastic bags a day. And then, they just get thrown in the trash! Who wants to literally throw money away on a daily basis? Sure, it’s only a few pennies.

Real Mom Talk: Why I Use Cloth Wipes
July 1, 2014 5:23 pm | by

Our cloth diapering story includes a few years of disposables. We had the “luxury” of wiping baby’s bum, putting the wipes in the diaper to roll up and throw away. It was easy, simple, and got rid of everything at once. Once we transitioned to cloth diapers, we were separating the disposable wipes from the cloth diaper to throw the wipes away. It felt… odd. I had to go to two different places in my house to get rid of the waste, sometimes I’d end up with poop on my hand, and I was still creating trash. Switching to cloth

Review: Flip Organic Inserts
June 13, 2014 2:48 pm | by

I have a very extensive diaper stash full of bumGenius, Flip and other brands. I’ve got Freetimes, 4.0s, and Flips galore. However, I’ve never tried a single Flip insert. For whatever reason, I always used a prefold, flat, or made a receiving blanket into a flat. So you can imagine my surprise when I finally tried the Flip Organic Day Time Inserts. Oh my goodness. Talk about trim. If you’re trying to get away from the cloth diapered large baby bum, this is the way to go. My husband and I were actually laughing at how small her bum looked

Real Mom Talk: Traveling with Cloth Diapers
June 10, 2014 4:10 pm | by

It’s summer time! Families are heading outside for the day, traveling for vacation, or going to visit families on a long weekend. Think you need to bring disposable diapers? Think again!  Modern cloth diapering is easy when you’re out and about! You can grab some Flips with organic or stay dry inserts. This means you can pack for the day, weekend, or week without using a bunch of space in your bag. Need something easy for a sitter or grandma? Pack a few Freetimes, pre-stuffed 4.0s, or an Elemental. All-In-Ones seem to be more “grandma, sitter, daddy” friendly but they

Real Mom Talk: The Stress and Fun of Party Planning
May 27, 2014 7:52 pm | by

Over the weekend, we had B’s 2nd birthday party. The people, the food, the decorations, cake, everything was overwhelming. I meant to take pictures to share with all of you and that just did not happen! I love having parties for my kids. I love my house being spotless, good food just sitting around, and actual conversation with adults. The only downside is the stress that takes its toll on me the week before. The first thing that comes to mind when I know I’m having people over is getting my house clean. That makes me think of the e-card on

Real Mom Talk: Mommy Time
May 14, 2014 5:23 pm | by

Evidently, being a mother means never going to the bathroom alone, always sharing your food, late nights and early mornings, and having to change cloth diapers,  clean up snot, poop, and vomit on a regular basis. Welcome to motherhood! As a mother, I rarely get time to myself to even think but it’s very important that I do get some “me” time here and there. And you need it too!!  Being a woman is not easy. (Being a person in general isn’t easy!) But women seem to have things constantly on their shoulders. I know I always have a meal

Real Mom Talk: How Motherhood Changed Me
May 10, 2014 12:12 pm | by

I am a “young mom” so motherhood changed me drastically and probably before I was ready. When I became a mom, I was 18 years young. I had just graduated high school.  To say that we weren’t ready is kind of an understatement. But we did it and we made it. I will never forget that moment that baby A was handed to me. She had these beautiful big eyes that just looked at me with such wonder. That moment, I became a mother. I was responsible for another person’s life. It was up to me to feed her, clothe

Real Mom Talk: Benefits of Cloth Diapers
April 19, 2014 10:07 am | by

Some benefits of cloth diapering are obvious while others really aren’t. In the spirit of Real Diaper Week, let’s talk about them! Saving Money. This one is pretty obvious, especially if you have used disposables in the past. Let’s say you buy 2 boxes of name brand disposables once a month. For 2 ½ years, you would spend $2,100 on diapers alone. Want to add in the cost of wipes? You’re now looking at $3,000. This total also includes only one child!! By purchasing cloth diapers and wipes, you can save over $2,000 and use them for multiple children. How
