Cloth Diapers 101: Air drying indoors
April 9, 2012 3:05 pm | by

As much as I love hanging my diaper covers out in the sunshine to remove stains and stink, the fact is that it’s just not always possible. Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate, especially during spring rains. Other times, I have just waited too long to do laundry and end up completing a load of diapers at 10 p.m. when there is no sun in sight! Rather than tossing the covers in the dryer, I choose to preserve the life of the PUL material in my diapers by making sure to air dry every time. Even when it’s not possible to

Real Mom Talk: Potty Learning – Ready or Not?
April 4, 2012 1:30 pm | by

It appears to be that time… my little guy is about 2.5 years old, and already more than half of his playgroup since birth is fully potty trained. Not just the girls, but the boys too. I’m starting to feel a little weird having to take diapers to Mother’s Day Out. With two kids in (cloth) diapers, I’d definitely welcome at least one of them moving to underwear. March 7, 2012 3:00 am | by

How do you start a blog post about sleep deprivation, when you’re a little sleep deprived? Much like you start or don’t ever finish anything: poorly and slowly! Are you reading this at 3am while someone very small is a) eating b) crying or c) pooping? Or is it nice and sunny outside but you’re a little disgruntled because you did not really get as much sleep as you’d wanted out of the nighttime hours? I know how you feel! As a new mom, sleep deprivation is unavoidable. It’s probably one of the first pieces of advice you received when

How to Use a bumGenius Refresher Kit

Cloth Diaper Creams

A few months ago, my son’s bumGenius one-size pocket diaper started to leak around the legs. When I took his pants down to change his diaper, I found there was a gap between his legs and the diaper. Then he started coming to me pointing to his diaper and asking for help – the hook and loop holding the diaper closed had let go! Our diapers were all well over 2 years old and are now servicing two children simultaneously. I tried to ignore the signs for a while, but it was clear: we would need to repair the diapers

Cloth Diapers 101: For the Love of Pockets
February 1, 2012 6:09 am | by

At this point in my cloth diapering journey, I think that I can say that I’ve tried almost all the major categories of diapers: prefolds with covers, All-In-Ones, All-In-Twos, hybrids… but my favorite is definitely pockets! Almost my entire stash now consists of various pocket diapers. What is a pocket diaper?A pocket diaper is a diaper-shaped, waterproof shell sewn to a fabric inner. One edge is left open, creating a pocket. The pocket is then stuffed with one or more inserts. Inserts can be made of any material – microfiber, cotton, hemp, or a blend of materials. When the diaper
