Calm Mama Tea – A Blend for Postpartum and Beyond
January 4, 2017 8:00 am | by

We all know the children’s tale of Peter Rabbit whose mother gives him a cup of Chamomile tea after having a hectic day. Mama Rabbit is very wise. This calm herbal tea blend is a DIY mix especially for moms to help us relax after a long day of pouring into our children’s lives.

Making tea in itself is telling our bodies to slow down for a moment and make something for yourself. Take care of yourself with herbs great for your nervous system by creating a Homemade Calm Mama Tea blend (or course, dads can enjoy this as well!).

The majority of these herbs are calming to the nervous systems. They can help with restlessness, insomnia, anxiety, stress, even little aches from taking care of our children. In this blend, I like to add in Fennel seed as milk supply support, and it gives it a little sweet taste.

My Calm Mama tea blend contains:

  • ½ oz Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)
  • ½ oz Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)*
  • ½ oz Catnip (Nepeta cataria)
  • ½ oz Red raspberry leaf (Rubus idaeus)
  • ¼ oz Fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare)

To Make the Homemade Calm Mama Herbal Tea Blend:

  1. Weigh out your herbs on your kitchen scale.
  2. Add to a bowl and mix together with your hands or a wooden spoon.

To Use Homemade Tea Blends:

Steep 1-2 teaspoon of Calm Mama tea blend in 8 ounces boiling water for 15 minutes. Strain out the herbs and add honey as desired. Enjoy 2-3 cups a day to receive the most benefits of this tea, although even one cup before bed is delightful.

*For those allergic to Chamomile (it’s in the ragweed family), you can just leave it out. Alternatively, you can increase the amount of Lemon balm and Catnip or substitute in Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata), another herb great for the nervous system. I buy my herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs and Bulk Herb Store, I really enjoy their quality and use them in my herbalist practice.

If you want to see other organic tea blend options already pre-packaged and ready to brew see our certified organic offerings from Earth Mama Angel Baby such as Heartburn Tea and Monthly Comfort Tea blends.
