Change 3 Things / bumGenius 4.0 Cloth Diaper Giveaway
April 12, 2011 3:16 am | by

Last weekend marked another new milestone for our Change 3 Things Facebook page. Since we began tracking cloth diaper changes on March 3, 2011, together we have changed more than 500,000 cloth diapers; that more than HALF A MILLION cloth diapers changed in a few weeks’ time! Also this weekend, we passed the number that represents the potentially prevented waste equivalent to more than 300 babies in disposable diapers for a year.

To celebrate, today we are giving away prize packs that each include a bumGenius 4.0 cloth diaper, a Change 3 Things t-shirt, silicone band and 25 Change 3 Things Share Cards.

To enter today’s contest, visit the new Change 3 Things website and leave a comment here on the blog telling us what companies, organizations or cloth diaper advocates you would like to see join Change 3 Things as a supporter. Would you attend a Change 3 Things event if the tour came to your area?

Eligible entries must be posted today, Tuesday, April 12, 2011. U.S. Residents only. Void where prohibited by law. No purchase necessary to win. All winners will be drawn Wednesday, April 13, 2011 and notified via e-mail.

I would love it if not only did Target and Walmart got involved and had in store option cloth diapers, but also more government programs, ie WIC and Food Stamps. It would help people who are already at an economic disadvantage save some more money and get by a little better, as well as make it so they are more likely to be able to get themselves off these programs at some point in the future b/c it allows them and teaches them methods of saving money that they may otherwise never learn.

While I totally support the idea of more large retailers getting involved, I’d really like to see more charitable organizations involved that support low-income women as well as immigrants and refugees. Cloth diapering info for the portion of the population that are struggling to diaper their kids would really make a change. Some examples could be the Salvation Army, Goodwill, church organizations, and refugee support groups. And I would definitely attend an event if it was in my area!

i would defineately attend. I would like to see Thirsties, Fuzzibunz and Blueberry get involved. I would also (I am in Washington state) like to see more major stores get involved. I think it’s really sad that cloth diapers are only availiable online or in specialty shops. It makes me ill to think of the way that Disposable diaper companies have the consumers swayed, the commercials, the advertising, etc. Not too long ago, cloth was the only choice a mom had!

I agree with a previous commenter about programs like WIC promoting cloth diapering and helping families to find affordable ways to do so. We were lucky that we were able to buy all of our cloth diapers and inserts used, from a good friend. There’s no way we could have afforded them all new.

I’d really like to see major retailers involved in promoting CDing. I’m having a hard time choosing diapers blindly, over the internet. I’d like to see Babies R’ Us, Target, Walmart, even pharmacies carrying cloth diapers just as they carry sposies. A local event would be great, I can’t find stores in my area (WA state).

I’d like to see babies r us and target carry cloth options in their stores and more options online. Especially the basics like quality prefolds and covers. I think WIC should support families with financial assistance to do cloth! and sure I would attend an event! kellyjmh(at)gmail(dot)com

I say Target and Babies R Us should get on board. This is where many people shop and they could get the word out loudly! Might change some people’s minds about cloth diapers. Maybe they just don’t know it is available and so cute!!!

Of course having cloth diapers in the big box retailers’ brick and mortar stores would be awesome, but just having the big names supporting the C3T challenge would be great (and most DO sell cloth on their web sites)! I think simply getting the “new” kind of diapers in peoples’ hands to look at would win over a lot of people.

I would love for major national retailers (Walmart, Kmart, Target, Babies-R-Us,etc) to carry better cloth options (or flat out carry cloth options). I think many people choose disposable because they see it as the only option. Unless you know someone who uses cloth, or do a lot of your own on-line research, you really don’t know the cloth options out there (or that they are as easy as disposables).

Also it would be great to get the medical professionals to support cloth. They encourage breastfeeding as “the best option.” Since switching to cloth diapers my kids have had much less diaper rash problems (and I use less diaper rash creams). I’d love to see some research on if there are health benefits to using cloth vs. disposable diapers (because I personally think there are!) It’d also be great to see places like Crisis Pregnancy Centers and WIC offer cloth diapers or rebates for choosing cloth over disposables.

I’d love to attend an event (and invite some friends!)

In order to make the biggest impact, modern cloth diapers need to be sold next to disposables in major retail stores like Babies R Us, Walgreens, Target, Walmart, etc. Babies R Us already sells BumGenius & Flip online (limited selection), but they need to be on the store shelves for people to realize they have options. I’m the only person I know using modern cloth and that’s because I shop online, a lot, & that’s how I learned of them. Most people still think they only cloth diapers are prefolds & rubber pants!
I would try to attend an event in my area… my schedule is pretty crazy, but I’d try!

I think the idea someone already mentioned about appliance manufacturers was a good one – we use washing machines to wash all the diapers so they should support this. I love that some Walgreens stores carry BG now; wish mine did. I would love it if Target were a sponsor, but think it would reach more people if WalMart was. My in-laws live in a small town, and WalMart is the only game in town there; I think other small town/rural areas have the same issue.

There are some great ideas on here! My first thought was to get other CD companies (ie. FuzziBunz, GroVia, Kissaluv, etc) on board. While that’s a good idea, so many more people could be reached if companies like Whole Foods, and BabiesRUs got on board. Those are companies that carry some cloth diapers, but are going to be able to reach people who don’t know much about cloth yet.

At our hospital our daughter was immediately put into cloth by the nurses, then we had the option to continue to do cloth or to do disposibles. I know about 50 moms in my area that would come to a CD event! (Clearwater/St. Petersburg Fl area)We have monthly gatherings/diapers swaps in our area since the closest stores that carry anything on shelf (not online only) are in Tampa, and we love to talk about and introduce other moms to cloth diapers, lol.

Unlike everyone else I think Walmart should partner up with you and actually carry your products in stores, since you are already partnered with Target as an online carrier of BG diapers… or just get the ball rolling with Target to get them put on the shelves nationwide.. not just online! However I think Walmart because they tend to cater to be a low price store and those who are on a tighter budget may see a true reusable diaper as a major money saveing benifit… ie Econobums starter/full packs as well as BG pockets and flips. People do like to have choices.Besides I think people would actually consider prefolds if they could actually feel the difference vs gerber ones that are in all the major retailers. So I think a display with and attached soft prewashed/preshrunk Econobum prefold to touch and feel could make a huge impact on consumers descisions to consider cloth diapers.

A lot of the cloth diapering moms I know support other “green” organizations and an event could have a broader appeal to attract moms who don’t cloth diaper if there were other interests there as well. So FOCUS on cloth diapers but add other peripheral interests – then we convince the non-cd moms to cd while they’re there! šŸ™‚

The companies I would like to see support the Change 3 things would be any cloth diaper company that hasn’t yet. I would love to see some of the other “Big Name” companies supporting (like FuzziBunz, Happy Heinys, Rumparooz, and GroVia) – certainly the more companies that are participating the better word will get out. I would love to attend an event but I’ve found that even in a large metropolitan area like Seattle there are very few cloth diapering events. If the event was large enough I would drive down to Vancouver but it would be great to see an event up here.

I think it would be nice to see support on the government level, perhaps some education classes offered at WIC offices and more grants for families who need help diapering their children. This issue concerns everyone, not just parents, because every child that is in disposable diapers from birth to potty training impacts the environment we all live in.

I would like a large company like Aveeno, a chain of stores like Walgreens (all of them!), a TV channel like TLC or PBS, the Dr. Sears or Babywise book brand label, or other diaper retailers like Kelly’s Closet to join in! I tried to pick a really diverse crowd!

PS – I really like the 4.0s. I didn’t want to buy them since we had 3.0s, but needed a non-stretched out elastic and snap option for night. I think they are similarly designed to Rumparooz, and I like that the price is better! :o)

The best cloth diaper retailer we have locally here in Massachusetts is one called “A Child’s Garden”, Northmpton, MA they are our go to spot equally as much as cotton babies. They are into helping the public via media (they put out lots of PSA about the danger of the bag style baby carriers… they carry lots of the safe ones at their site)

Northampon would be a perfect town to host in, and though it’s a little bit of a drive, we’d be at a C3T event if it happened there or somewhere near to us. And I hope it does.
