Cloth 101: My Tabs Aren’t as Sticky

Prepping Cloth Diapers

IMG_0012Cloth diapers endure A LOT.  From poop and pee.. washing and line drying.. to an active baby, your cloth diapers can take a beating. With that said, cloth diapers may need a little extra love every once in a while, especially the hook and loop closures. This part of a cloth diaper — besides the insert— gets the most wear and tear. And, if you’re using cloth diapers that have been around the block a time or two, a quick tune up may be needed.

So.. if your tabs aren’t as sticky as they used to be, we have some advice!

First, check for lint in your tabs. You can clean it out with a pin or a fine tooth comb. If it isn’t lint, the hooks may have relaxed. This can happen over time when you exclusively line dry. Be sure to wash your diaper and then dry it in the dryer on warm heat. Let the diaper cool completely before using. This causes the hooks to re-contract and become “sticky” again.

If you find your tabs still aren’t as sticky, try replacing them with a bumGenius Refresher Kit. You can find full instructions on how to replace hook and loop closures here.

I had no idea you could put your diapers in the dryer for a bit to repair the velcro! I’ve had some Flips for less than a year and the aplix is not working at all. I’m going to give this a try next laundry day. Thanks!
