Prepping Cloth Diapers

We’ve been seeing a lot of people ask lately about how to prep cloth diapers. Ask no more! We’re here to help!Screen Shot 2015-01-04 at 1.49.13 PM

With the arrival of Jolly and Stellar, the newest colors available in your favorite bumGenius, Flip and Econobum diapers, you may be wondering how to wash these products since the shades are so vivid.

For brighter, bolder colors like Stellar (as well as Hummingbird, Armadillo, Sassy, Countess, Clementine, Mirror, Twilight, Albert, Dazzle and Moonbeam), we recommend washing these diapers with ‘like’ colors for the first few washes to avoid any transfer of dye to other lighter colors. These do not have to be six consecutive washes before your first use. You can also wash these darker colored diapers together. The same goes for light colored diapers — wash ’em together before mixing with others.

Think of it this way: You wouldn’t wash a white T-shirt with your dark blue jeans, so don’t wash a Stellar Flip with a White bumGenius. After you wash your brights six times, you can wash them with lighter colors and clean all your cloth diapers in the same laundry load.
A good rule of thumb:  if you are worried about any color transferring onto other diapers or inserts whether it’s light or dark, wash separately for the first few washes.
Remember, synthetic fibers only need one wash to become ready for use while natural fibers need 3-5.
