Cloth diapers endure A LOT.  From poop and pee.. washing and line drying.. to an active baby, your cloth diapers can take a beating. With that said, cloth diapers may need a little extra love every once in a while, especially the hook and loop closures. This part of a cloth diaper — besides the insert— gets the most wear and tear. And, if you’re using cloth diapers that have been around the block a time or two, a quick tune up may be needed. So.. if your tabs aren’t as sticky as they used to be, we have some advice!

Prepping Cloth Diapers

Let’s talk about washing your wet bag. But first, if you’re not familiar with a wet bag, you can learn more about this cloth diaper accessory here. Most people who use cloth know that a wet bag is used to tote and store soiled diapers and/or clothes, which means it can get gross. Especially on the inside. Just think about all the smells, moisture, liquid(s), and BACTERIA a wet bag contains. Or don’t… because YUCK! Washing your wet bag is just as important as washing your cloth diapers. Wet bags can create a warm, damp and dark environment that is

A gentle breeze, warm weather, and sun means spring. And you know what spring means? Line drying your cloth diapers, which we recommend for diaper covers and shells. You can learn more here. Line drying your cloth diapers is also a great way to save money. It can put more than $10 back in your pocket each month. Plus, drying your diapers in the sun can also remove stains and sanitize your stash. Most people think you have to have a clothesline in your yard to dry your diapers or clothes outside, but that isn’t necessarily true. You can use a folding

Cloth 101: Washing Cloth Diapers

Washing cloth diapers may seem overwhelming, but it’s really pretty simply. Although many detergents will work well when washing cloth diapers, it is important to find one that effectively cleans your diapers and works well for the needs of your whole family. Laundry detergents that work well for a baby’s regular clothing may also be suitable for cloth diapers. Some detergents contain ingredients such as perfumes, dyes, optical brighteners, and fabric softeners that may leave residue on fabric. In our experience, detergent residue can be problematic for cloth diapers and for little ones with skin sensitivities. If your child seems

Cotton Babies Warranty
March 15, 2015 7:12 pm | by

After reviewing the feedback received through customer surveys regarding detergent choice and washing routines, Cotton Babies has decided to make several major changes. We are discontinuing our list of recommended detergents. Instead, we are recommending that parents choose a detergent that works well for their family, their budget, and their child. The new detergent information sheet along with basic washing instructions is available here. In concert with this decision, we are also modifying the warranty that applies to Cotton Babies manufactured cloth diapers (bumGenius, Flip, and Econobum). This warranty change will be honored retroactively on purchases of all Cotton Babies manufactured cloth diapers purchased since January 1,

Cloth 101: Diaper Creams and Lotions

Prepping Cloth Diapers

Let’s set the record straight — there is NO cream, lotion or oil that is safe to use on bumGenius, Flip or Econobum diapers. Despite what you see, hear or read, we ALWAYS recommend using a barrier with any cream or lotion. A lot of people think that because something says its cloth diaper safe (sorry, coconut oil!) you do not need to use a barrier.  This is not true and will void your warranty because these products can cause issues such as leaks, odors, and unnecessary wear and tear. So why does this happen? Creams, oils, and lotions are designed to coat

There it is, here to rear its ugly head. And unfortunately, it made home in your cloth diapers. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, I’m referring to mold and mildew. As much as you’d like to protect your precious stash, cloth diapers are susceptible to fungi. Thankfully, you can prevent mold and mildew from growing in your diapers, but, if they’ve already turned into a science experiment, you can combat it! How does mold grow in cloth diapers? Think about it: Cloth diapers get wet and often sit for days in a wet bag or diaper pail that’s

A well-stocked diaper bag can make a huge difference when you’re away from home. But, if you’re like me, your bag often becomes a black hole for receipts, loose change, food wrappers, and other junk you probably don’t need in there. This eliminates precicous space for the necessities.. you know, stuff you actually should have like diapers, wipes, bottles, etc. How do you determine what you really need in your bag? I mean, choosing the items that have a permanent place in your bag is a really tough decision. Trust me. You never know when you’re going to need those expired fast
