Even though this midwest winter seems to be neverending, warm weather will eventually be here. I am so excited to take my kids outside to play and explore new things and places. My little guy is about to turn 1, and he is a wobbly walker. For outings that require lots of walking, I love to strap him in a baby carrier and go. The only downside is that St. Louis summers are hot and humid. Sometimes, coming in contact with another human is just about the last thing you would want to do. Luckily, there are some lightweight and breathable baby carriers that make the snuggles a bit cooler.
Beachfront Baby Slings
A Beachfront Baby Sling is a must-have if you are going to a pool, river, lake or even the splash pad. I love that these carriers work so well in the water. And they dry fast, too! I’ve found I’m calmer at the pool when the baby is in a carrier and my toddler is within arm’s reach. You can choose a sling or a wrap in a variety of colors.
Ergobaby Four Position Cool Air 360
An Ergobaby was my first soft structured carrier. There’s a lot to love about the Four Position Cool Air 360. Lots of parents are drawn to this carrier because it allows baby to forward-face (this Alan in The Hangover). This versatile carrier can easily switch to fit caregivers of varying sizes- i.e. mom and dad.
Lillebaby Complete Airflow
The Lillebaby Complete Airflow is a great breathable baby carrier that offers 6 carrying positions. One of the unique aspects of this carrier is that the straps can criss-cross as an “X” on the wearer’s back or backpack style. It also offers a piece designed for added lumbar support for the wearer. This is a great carrier for parents who are concerned about back fatigue from wearing baby.
Tula Baby Carrier – Coast
Tula Coast Carriers are the design you know and love from Tula Baby, but with a breathable mesh panel that will make you feel like you’re standing near a cool, ocean breeze. Also available in toddler sizes!
Lillebaby Tie the Knot Wrap
My very first baby carrier was a Moby wrap. I absolutely love that carrier for a little squish. I had a winter baby, so it was nice and snuggly. I can, however, see how it would be a bit too thick for some peoples’ preference in the summer. The Lillebaby Tie the Knot Wrap is an excellent solution. It’s soft, stretchy and holds baby nice and close. It is still supportive, but much more lightweight than the Moby. It’s a great breathable baby carrier for smaller babies.
Good luck finding the perfect carrier for you and your baby! Breathable baby carriers will help you both have lots of fun and bonding this summer.
