Cloth Diaper Basics: Drying Cloth Diapers Indoors
December 28, 2014 2:34 pm | by

threetierdryingrack1BRRRRR, it’s cold outside. Winter is here, which means drying your cloth diapers outdoors is practically impossible due to low temperatures.

Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered when it comes to air drying your diapers. There are plenty of hacks that you can do to dry your cloth diapers indoors, especially during the cooler months. Here are a few of our tips:

Use an indoor drying rack. Cotton Babies carries laundry products that are very practical and not just for cloth diapers. The Three-tier drying rack is space efficient and pre-assembled. Perfect for smaller homes, apartments and dorms, this drying rack easily folds shut, so storage is a breeze. It also comes with a removable mesh shelf on the top for sweaters and other delicates. Just place this in your basement or shower. If it’s sunny, you can also prop it near a door or large window.

Tight on space? Try the New Clothesline DUO. The New Clothesline Company DUO can literally hang from anywhere. It can be mounted to the ceiling or fastened to your shower rod. Hang your diapers to it with Sparrow Clips.

Toss cloth diapers over a shower rod. This is another great way to keep clean diapers up and away from curious toddlers (or dogs!) while drying. Maximize your space by using plastic clothes hangers along the shower rod if you have a larger cloth diaper collection.

String a line indoors. If you have a basement or other area, you can install a retractible clothesline. These are easy to find at many home improvement stores. Just be sure to follow all safety recommendations and find a safe place.

As a reminder, we are big advocates for line drying your cloth diapers. In fact, we recommend it for bumGenius, Flip and Econobum covers, pocket diapers and anything made with hook & loop closures. Virtually everything else like inserts can be tumble tried on low/medium.

Placing the drying rack below a ceiling fan can help expedite drying.

Place the drying rack close to your furnace or wood stove (not TOO close). The extra bump of heat will help drying time!
