Great Products to fight colds and flu

Anyone else ready for Spring?

Winter’s cold & the flu have finally hit our home. Everyone knows, drink plenty of fluids and try to make your family as comfortable as possible while the illness persists. Besides cloth diapering, I try to be as natural as possible in my parenting.  Some of my favorite tricks to fight through  cold and flu season are available right here at Cotton Babies.

BumGenius Flannel Wipes

Most people probably think about flannel wipes for bottoms, but when you have a drippy sore nose- that soft flannel is so much kinder to our skin than any facial tissue that comes in a box- they are all made from paper.  I like to keep a BumGenius mini wet bag available to hold my wipes so they aren’t just loose in my bag. I choose a bright color so I can quickly and easily find it.  I keep a second mini wet bag available to store the used wipes so they don’t soil my bag with germs.

California Baby: Aroma Stick

This is for family members over 6 months of age. Use this stick anywhere one feels sore. You can use it under the nose, rub on the chest or back or anywhere you or your little one feels sore. When my youngest gets sick she likes us to massage her legs. This does contain some essential oils, but is menthol free. California Baby Bath Drops: These drops can be used in the bath to help someone who is feeling under the weather to calm and relax and have a few moments not feeling so bad.  These drops can also be used in a diffuser or humidifier.  If using a carrier oil, they can also be used on skin.  Be sure to carefully follow the directions.

FridaBaby

We carry the FeverFrida – where was this thing when my children were little? Baby care meets modern day! When baby’s sick, the last thing a parent wants is to wake him or her for a temp check. FeverFrida checks in on your babe every four seconds without waking him or her, thanks to a bitty Bluetooth monitor and patch placed under the arm. The FeverFrida will alert your smartphone when the temp goes above a predetermined threshold and continuously stores data for pediatrician visits and medicine dose reminders. Think thermometer meets very smart baby monitor!  And if your baby tends to cry a lot when under the weather, they can swallow a lot of gas which just makes them cry more.  The Windi is a wonderful aid to help your little one who needs help passing the gas.

Mrs. B’s Natural Baby Oil

This amazing oil is unscented and gentle on sensitive skin. The 4 oz. bottle has a locking top pump so it’s easy to use & store without making a mess. A little goes a long way – apply all over for soft as silk skin. Great to use after baby’s bath to moisturize skin and for a relaxing massage. Since the top pump easily turns and locks, it’s great to throw in the diaper bag for on the go.  I would use this when massaging my little one’s legs, with a couple of drops from the California Baby bath drops- she gets such dry skin in this dry weather.

Prevent Cold and Flu with Dapple

The first line of defense from getting sick is preventing the viruses from getting to us.  Pacifier wipes to keep in your diaper bag.  What a comfort to be able to clean off your pacifier even if there is no sink around!  And the Dapple Nursery spray you can keep in the baby’s room and wipe down the crib and toys.  I would do a quick wipe down of the changing area at least once per day, more if your family has come down with a cold.

Give Medicine to Fight Cold and Flu

Pacidose helps you give your child the right dose of liquid medicine. The narrow tube down the center of the nipple prevents wasted medicine. Medicine is delivered to the back of the tongue, decreasing the chance of rejection. We have these in two sizes. 6-18 months and 18 months and older.

Mother Earth Pillows

This is one of my most favorite things ever.  We store these in the freezer in our house.  That way if someone has an injury it is ready to go and so much gentler to their skin than an ice pack.  But we also use these for colds and the flu.  We warm them in the microwave and the gentle heat helps to ease the ache of sore muscles.  We also use this when someone has a tummy ache.  There is something so wonderfully soothing about a warm pack on your tummy when you don’t feel the greatest. Choose between unscented or scented with herbal scents and soothe you. The fabric on the herbal ones vary from more grown up to the kid at heart fabrics.  The fish & ladybug cuddle pillows are unscented and truly just adorable as well as functionally awesome.

I sure hope Spring makes its appearance sooner than later. But until it does, we hope we can help you and your little one feel a bit more comfortable.
