Halloween Fun for Everyone
October 23, 2018 11:57 am | by
Looking for Halloween fun for the whole family? Check out how we're making it a great day.

Halloween is a frightfully fun time of year! From costumes to festive parties, and hayrides to sweet treats, there are so many ways to have fun this season.

Perhaps you aren’t much of a Halloween person. That’s ok! As an adult, I don’t love dressing up, but I do love experiencing the holiday through the eyes of my children. I love watching them experience decorations (as long as they’re not too spooky!), and seeing the creativity my 3-year-old expresses. Learn more about how some parents have learned to embrace Halloween since becoming parents.

Trick or Treat

For many, Halloween is synonymous with candy and trick or treating. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some candy! However, I try to limit how much my kids can eat. If we have a pile of candy in the house, my daughter can quickly become a candy junkie. Instead of adding to the mountain of candy my kids and their classmates will receive, I look for candy alternatives. Check out this list of non-candy treats.

Fun fact: I grew up in St. Louis, MO. When kids here trick or treat, they knock on the door and say, “Trick or treat!” Then, the person with the candy asks for a joke. Trick or treaters who are old enough to remember jokes present their best knock-knock joke or pun-filled riddle. To us, you do a “trick” aka tell a joke in order to get your treat. It wasn’t until I was in college that I learned that this is a tradition that is limited to St. Louis. As friends moved away, they asked trick or treaters for jokes only to be met with blank stares and confused parents. Do you kids tell jokes where you live?!

Boo! Don't be scared - the whole family can have Halloween fun!
