How To Have Happier Hook & Loop (Cloth Diapers)
October 29, 2009 5:10 pm | by
Cloth Diapers made with hook & loop closures will wear out over time. My goal through this post is to help you understand how to better take care of diapers made with hook & loop so they last longer.

Hook and loop can be made of nylon or polyester, both essentially soft plastics. When nylon is exposed to high temperatures, it can change shape unpredictably. This will cause a negative effect on the ‘stickiness’ of the tabs. We recommend line drying any hook & loop product.

bumGenius Original Pocket Diapers line dry quickly. To soften a bumGenius Elemental All-In-One, dry briefly in the dryer (until warm) and then finish on the line.

Avoid washing or drying hook & loop diapers with socks, underwear, towels, prefolds, hemp inserts or other natural fibers that might lint. This lint will catch in hook and loop and cause it to wear out or become pilly.  Large quantities of (or previously unwashed) cotton or hemp diapers should be washed in a different load.

I’m a big fan of convenience and much prefer the “one load of laundry” approach. I can easily do one load of diaper laundry because my stash is comprised almost exclusively of diapers that are compatible in the wash.
Lastly, remember to close the laundry tabs before washing.
Our priority is taking care of our customers. If you have questions we can answer about your diapers, please let us know. We are always glad to help and will do absolutely everything we can to make sure that you have a successful experience with whatever diapering system you’ve chosen.
