Jenn’s Newborn Stash – Need Your Suggestions!
January 26, 2009 7:36 pm | by

I’ve been steadily checking things off of my to-do list. We bought an aqua Britax Companion from Albee Baby. Cotton Babies was sold out. Britax is sold out and Albee Baby was the only place I could find selling them at a super-cheap price. Britax is going to have another infant seat in May, but I just can’t wait that long! The Companion is still sitting in the box in the basement waiting for one of us to figure out how to put it in the 2003 Chrysler minivan that we bought a week ago. Most of the baby stuff is located. I still have to pack for the hospital, pack the boys for grandma’s house, write a birth plan and make an iTunes playlist for labor.

I’m back to the diapers issue though. As we were going through the diaper bucket trying to find the newborn stash, I realized that I sold all of my newborn diapers – every one! Andrew wore infant-sized Chinese prefolds and Bummis Super Whisper Wraps. Oscar wore Fuzzi Bunz (XS) and Kissaluvs (Size 0) when he was tiny. bumGenius didn’t exist when my boys were tiny. So, now that my newborn stash is gone, I get to try some “new” diapers. The core of my tiny baby stash will be bumGenius XS All-In-Ones, but I am excited to actually get to try some other products that have been specially designed for newborns.

This is where you come in. Do you have a favorite newborn diaper that you think I should try? If so, post a comment and include a link to the product. If we (Jimmy and I) like it, there’s a good chance that we’ll bring it in as a new product at Cotton Babies!

Thanks for your help and advice! 🙂

Angie – we LOVE our BumGenius AIOs. The suedecloth is amazing and keeps our daughter dry. Another crazy dry one is Drybees AIO. And FLIP staydry inserts are great too.

I recieved Bummis prefolds with the Whisper Wraps from a friend, and they worked just fine with my son. Not fancy, and free!

I’m expecting my second, and we’re planning to invest in a set of stay-dry cloth diapers – Fuzzi Bunz. Super expensive, but my baby was a terrible sleeper and using disposables at night helped reduce his wake-ups. I tried one Fuzzi Bunz on him and the surface stayed dry all night – amazing!

Can anyone else recommend a stay-dry cloth diaper?

I absolutely loved GMD infant fitteds when DD was a newborn. Trim, velcro, never leaked, very soft, cotton inners, and inexpensive compared to others. They fit under just about any cover. They were always what I reached for and ended up having to place an emergency order for more because nothing else compared!

I have a newborn, but he was 10lbs,6oz at birth, so we jumped right into our BG 3.0’s. I also really like the Kissaluvs. We have both the sz.0 and a contour in nb/sm and I love it. I also like Fuzzi Bunz, old style, size small. He’s so big though that it’s probably not the same as those of you with average sized newborns, lol.

We just did prefolds and XS Thirsties covers. Loved the gussets to prevent poop coming out the sides… (Don’t know why they made them WHITE, though…)

You definitely should try the new Drybees Gone Natural bamboo diapers. They come in two sizes, with the smaller size adjustable for 5-15 pounds and the larger size fitting best from about 12-35 pounds. They are super absorbent, soft, and fast-drying.

I agree that the Kissaluvs 0 are a must try as well.

I would consider the sposo-easy diaper. They would make a great addition to your store as well. Very practical, fast drying, affordable. Cotton inners.

I love Wabi Sabi Baby diaper covers. For newborns, I just use prefolds underneath and for the smalls and up, I like using the covers with fitted Kissaluvs. I prefer 2-piece diapering system – I find them to be more leakprook and the Wabi Sabi covers give the best coverage over the bulkiest fitted cloth diapers. They’re also super cute.

I really liked my Swaddlebees velour for the newborn phase. I used kl0s, Swaddlebees and Green Sprouts and I loved them all. I found the Thirsties covers to work really well.

I am new to cd but I am having great success with the BG 3.0 OS with my 20 month old. I too am looking forward to cd’ing a newborn (due in May). So I chose to stock my newborn stash with the BG AIO XS. I know these will make great out and about or overnight diapers. I also purchased some preemie prefolds and wraps just to try it. I thought I was set. Oh but wait what about the Kissaluv 0and Swaddlebee Newborn??…so I got one each of those too. As I was feeding my curiousity about cloth diapers and reading way too much online I ran across a whole world of wahm products and newborn fitted diapers. So I have decided to add some style and fun to my newborn stash and try some unique handmade fluff. I am now the proud owner of a Mutt (muttaqinbaby.com), a BubuBebe (hyenacart.com/bububebe), and a Nanipoo (hyenacart.com/nanipoo) newborn diaper. Each of these remind me of the style and cost of a Swaddlebee Organic Velour newborn, but have way cuter “one of a kind” prints. These diapers are tiny and would provide a true newborn fit. Check them out if only for curiosity. Of course I haven’t actually used any of the diapers yet so I can’t share about the effectiveness. But I have read great reviews of them online. And I am not sure of the possibility of being stocked at Cotton Babies…but I am sure they would all sell well if they were 🙂 Certainly, these diapers are a pricier choice for cd’ing a newborn, but oh they are soooo cute and irresistable I just had to splurge. The wahm diapers I mentioned do seem to have great resale value as I have seen them go quickly at diaperswappers.com and just under the original price.

I just can’t wait to try out all of this fluff on my newborn. I know the time will go way too fast. I will it enjoy it while I can.

Good Luck, can’t wait to read a post about the arrival of your new one. 🙂

    With a smile, Kim

I am going through the same problem, except with my first, so I have no prior experience with cloth diapers. I had purchased the BG one-sized 3.0 only to find out they won’t fit a newborn, especially one around 6 lbs!

I’m planning on going the cheap route and getting prefolds and prowraps, but everyone who’s given me advise has suggested the thirsties XS with prefolds or kissuluvs fitteds XS. Others have used the BSWW or other Bummies, but they’ve said they prefer the thirsties. Hope this helps, I’m still trying to decide myself!

IF I were having a new baby I would go with fitted diapers in XS size for the first weeks. BG bamboo, Kissaluvs and Thirsties Fab Fitted… Maybe a couple of BG AIO’s as well. If you want a suggestion for a new brand that isn’t in your store already, I would suggest the Australian Bitti D’lish nappies (from the company Itti Bitti). They are super cute and work well:). BG is my no 1 recommendation, of course, but I guess you knew that:-)

I LOVE monkey doodlez AIO I haven’t used them on a newborn but the XS claims for 5-11 lbs so it would be PERFECT for a newborn. I have the med for my 7 month skinny boy & they fit perfect. Its def my fave AIO next up of course would be BGs 😉 I used sposies till he was a couple weeks old then switched to the 3.0s & obviously were still loving them since just about every pic I have of him he’s sporting a BG

My #3 is currently wearing Thirsties pocket AIO’s and I LOVE them. I also use chinese prefolds with Thirsties covers and haven’t had a leak yet. However, the size small AIO’s didn’t fit her until she was nearly 2 months old. I could do the prefolds and covers a couple weeks before that, but still not from the very beginning.

I had a great experience with Kissuluvs. Hope to buy more for baby #2 if/when that happens.
