Breastfeeding in Public – my experience in Ann Taylor
October 19, 2009 4:30 pm | by

Last week, we had to go to the Apple store to take care of a problem with my iPhone. While we were there, I had to back up the old iPhone to my laptop, which, if you own an iPhone, you’ll know can take quite a while. For 45 minutes, I held Elsie. She made it for a while, but eventually she got squirmy and fussy. It was time to eat. We hadn’t planned for a long stay and I was without a diaper bag. The Apple Store is bright and cheery and, by design, doesn’t offer even a corner

FTC Rules on Bloggers
October 5, 2009 9:28 pm | by

The FTC has finally released guidelines for bloggers about endorsements and advertising! Cotton Babies has been watching for this, hoping that we would eventually get clarification about how the FTC feels about the issue. We are frequently approached by bloggers requesting free product in exchange for a published review. Some are professional. Others, well, not so much. Now that the FTC guidelines have been published, please stay tuned for more from Cotton Babies on this all-important subject. I want to digest this document before I dive into my thoughts. While you’re waiting, here is a link directly to the FTC

Are we a big company?
September 25, 2009 11:50 am | by

I read an awesome blog post last night from a Cotton Babies customer. Autumn Beck runs “All About Cloth Diapers“. Here is a quote from what she wrote here:   Okay, I’ve always been honest with y’all so I won’t hold back. When I first started cloth diapering I strongly disliked all things made by Cotton Babies. I know, terrible, isn’t it?! You want to know what’s worse? I had never even tried one of their products. I completely made some crazy assumption that it was “big business” with no family behind it. Um…I couldn’t have been more wrong. Cotton

Are Flip disposable inserts biodegradable?
September 24, 2009 11:05 am | by

How many of you are wondering if the disposable inserts that are coming with Flip are biodegradable? Plenty it seems, because our customer service email box is overflowing with this particular question.   You may find it interesting to know that Kmart got in trouble with the FTC this summer because they were advertising paper plates as biodegradable. The FTC says that the actual anticipated disposal of a product labeled “biodegradable” must be in a form that encourages biodegradation. Did you know that 91% of consumer waste ends up in landfills? Landfills are essentially time capsules for waste. No matter

bumGenius & Cotton Babies Reviews
July 17, 2009 4:45 pm | by

I’ve always been bothered by reviews that I read that were not organically inspired by the writer’s natural desire to share information. I generally disregard anything written before the product was available to the public or even by someone who got the product free. I just do… it means much more to me as a reader when a review was written by someone who just liked the product and decided to tell the world about it. I feel the same about movie reviews. When a friend tells me that a movie is safe for my kids to watch, then I’m more

Alert to bloggers who also cloth diaper!
May 22, 2009 5:25 pm | by

The cloth diaper industry (businesses and consumers alike) needs to work together to effectively counter a bribed blogger initiative designed to promote disposable diapers through mommy bloggers. This is coming directly from the disposable diaper companies. You may have already started to see these posts on some blogs. As a reference, you can rely on this little tidbit in the Wall Street Journal in an article called “Big Diaper Makers Square Off” published on April 13, 2009. “Kimberly-Clark plans to ship free samples of its new diapers to about 500“mommy bloggers,” hoping to build buzz among mothers who write aboutchild-rearing

A Post-partum Review – Nursing A Newborn
May 8, 2009 1:44 pm | by

Elsie is now almost three months old. We’re finally settling into a routine. She is adjusting well to life outside of my uterus. As we suspected, our first weeks with her home were wonderful but rough as my body went through the initial postpartum period. I’m back to work now and learning how to to do life as a company owner with a nursling. When I posted about her birth, I promised a review of some of my favorite products for the postpartum time period. I’m finally getting a moment this afternoon to write a review of the nursing products

Lower the carbon impact of using cloth diapers!
May 4, 2009 7:36 pm | by

So, I learned something new recently. According to a recent UK study, we can lower the carbon (ie: environmental) impact of using cloth diapers to 40% less (!) than the carbon impact of using disposable diapers. You can. Here’s how: 1. Wash cloth diapers in temperatures under 140 F / 60 C. 2. Line dry cloth diapers. 3. Use your diapers for a second child. If you need to know what carbon impact is… here’s a quick primer: Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that affects the ozone layer. Lowering greenhouse gas emissions helps address global warming issues. The goal

bumGenius Limited Designs – just in time for Easter
April 6, 2009 6:12 pm | by

Have you seen the Easter bumGenius diapers yet?!! When you get a moment, check out what this mama had to say about our newest bumGenius Limited product… http://lilmouse.blogsite.org/2009/04/02/might-as-well-face-it-addicted-to-diapers/ I had to giggle when I read her blog post… she reflects the thoughts of so many of our customers who see these diapers for the first time in our retail store here in St. Louis. Back in February, we took a unique, fun look at a diaper we know and love… that turned into a special batch of diapers designed for Easter gift giving. I love the results and think they
