I love a good homemade, natural household cleaner. Not only because it’s safe to use around my little guy, but also because they are much more affordable than pre-made cleaners. I’ve almost completely tossed my store-bought cleaners and replaced them with ones that are safe and easy to make! With that being said, here are a few of my go-to everyday household cleaning recipes that I love to use!
To make these recipes, you will need a few different products. All are natural and affordable and most you probably already have around the house!
- Spray Cleaning Bottles – Plastic or glass will work just fine!
- Smaller Mason Jars
- Distilled White Vinegar
- Castile Soap (Dr. Bronner’s is my favorite to use!)
- Lemons
- Baking Soda
- Olive Oil
- Rubbing Alcohol
SHOWER SPRAY
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar
- spray bottle
Directions: Pour water and vinegar into spray bottle, shake, and use.
I recommend applying this spray in your shower and letting it sit for an hour or two. Apply a little scrubbing action when you rinse off, and your shower will sparkle! Spraying this solution in your microwave, running it for 30 seconds or so and wiping clean is also a recommendation of mine. This concoction makes cleaning a messy microwave a breeze!
WOOD FURNITURE POLISH
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar
- small mason jar
Directions: Mix equal parts olive oil and vinegar into a mason jar and mix well.
This cleaner will separate, so be sure to mix it each time before using. Apply cleaner to a soft cloth and carefully wipe down your wooden furniture. A little goes a long way with this cleaner so keep that in mind!
ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER
Note: Do not use this cleaner on wooden surfaces.
- 2 cups water
- 2 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon of castile soap
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
Directions: Add all ingredients into your spray bottle, mix well and use!
Be sure to make this cleaner over your sink since it does contain baking soda and can fizz. Spray on surface and wipe away with a soft towel or paper towel. This is a great option for general cleaning around the house or baby nursery (including tough spots like the cloth diaper pail).
GLASS CLEANER
- 2 cups water
- 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar
- 2 tablespoons rubbing alcohol
- 5 drops of essential oil (optional)
Directions: Add all ingredients into your spray bottle, mix well and use! Spray on glass/mirror surfaces (only!) and wipe away with a soft towel or paper towel!
CARPET CLEANER
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup distilled vinegar
- 1 tablespoon castile soap
Directions: Mix together in a spray bottle. Spray on stained carpet area, carefully scrub the stained area and let dry. Vacuum the area and the carpet will be like new!
A little goes a long way with all of these cleaners so use them sparingly!
