Ode to Hook & Loop
August 17, 2009 5:41 pm | by

A friend of mine sent this to me the other day… it made me laugh:

Please don’t misunderstand me. I do love my bumGenius organics with snaps, but lately with my sweet baby girl at the very mobile age of 11 months my diapers with hook/loop (aka velcro) are a lifesaver. Emmaline loves to move and there are no exceptions to this love of movement, not even during a diaper change. As much as I wish she would just lie there all mellow while I snap her into a bumGenius organics she just won’t cooperate. Her body is one way and her head is in the opposite direction. If it was not for my lifesaving bumGenius with hook/loop I do believe my sweet baby’s tiny bum would be bare most of the time. I am sure in a not so distant future when the novelty of moving has worn off I will be able to diaper her again in a more civilized manner but until than I offer up a big shout out to the makers of my bG hook & loop diapers.

Now, I’m not a parent and I hated to break it to my friend, but am pretty sure the “novelty of moving” won’t really wear off…but I appreciate her hook & loop love, so I thought I would pass it along 🙂

Please please please hurry up on a 3.0 with snaps! We are so tired of hook and loop – the laundry tabs stopped working months ago, I am tired of the diaper chain in the washing machine, tired of picking lint and hair out of the velcro! Of course he can take the diapers off himself but that is easily overcome… laundry tab malfunction is not!

I am also a hook and loop lover, even though I know they will wear out someday (there are only so many loops!)! I like not having to decided which snap is the right fit:0)

I like the hook and loop, too. My opinion may not matter since my son is only 6 months old, but I had a few of my BGs converted to snaps and I love the ease of the h&l! I think I’ll try the tip posted a few months ago if we have a houdini!

We adore hook & loop at our house! We’ve not had much issue with toddlers taking diapers off. We’re on our 5th cloth diapered baby with hook & loop diapers and we love it. Hubby didn’t like snaps – he always got them too loose or too tight. We keep shorts/pants on the toddler and tell him “no” when he does fiddle with his diaper. At that point they’re usually about ready to start sitting on the potty (at least in our experience).

My daughter can also undo the hook and loop but I just keep her in clothes to prevent this from happening. 🙂

my baby progressed to the ‘roll over on the changing table with butt in the air, leaning over to look at the ground and gnawing on the safety bar’ stage. Even with things to distract her. I moved her to a queen sized bed. For some reason, it is a lot less interesting to her and she stays still for the most part. She’s had a good talking to about trying to undo her velcro as well. She’ll be in onesies for a while!

Ah, she hit the nail on the head with this one! They each have their pros and cons, but it’s good to have a mix of both types in your stash 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

Of course, once the violent-thrashing-about-on-the-changing-table stage begins to die down, then the Look-Mommy-I-can-take-off-my-velcro-diaper stage begins. Then she’ll appreciate the snap diapers a bit more ;-D

Yeah, that moving around doesn’t stop once they figure out it annoys you 🙂 One thing I’m doing different with my new November baby is I will have a changing table. I didn’t think it was that important, but my 16mo son will not cooperate when I need to change him on a table, and my lapspace is decreasing daily.
