Online Interactions
January 26, 2011 6:01 am | by

I’ll admit, I’m a nerd. My background is in communications and journalism, after working in a newsroom, it was hard to become a stay-at-home mom. As a result, during my years as a stay at home mom, I spent a lot of time online – reading, writing and communicating. So when I read Jeff Pearlman’s article, “Tracking down my online haters” a few days ago, I went through a series of responses – understanding, surprise and shame. I understood, because in my years in the newsroom, I learned how differently people behave when they are interacting with a machine versus

Take This Job
January 25, 2011 6:06 am | by

I love my job… most days. Sure, work is work and there will be challenging days, but who wouldn’t love this job? I get paid to communicate with thousands of amazing parents and grandparents on a daily basis. I read the most amazing stories, get great tips and learn something new just about every day.   Today, I thought I’d give you a chance to pretend you have my job. One of my favorite parts of this job is to ask interesting questions that give our community an opportunity to share their experiences. If you were behind the keyboard for

When Delivery Doesn’t Go As Planned
January 19, 2011 6:02 am | by

One of the great joys of pregnancy is envisioning a beautiful, perfect delivery day. We plan those first moments when we meet our new baby as our family lovingly gathers around. Maybe you wrote out your birth plan, carried it dutifully to your final doctor’s or midwife appointments, and made sure you had extra copies for all the nurses, doulas and attendants by your side for delivery. But life doesn’t always go as planned.   Personally, I’ve had three pregnancies, resulting in four children. The brief version goes like this: singleton, twins, singleton; vaginal delivery, vaginal delivery, c-section, VBAC (vaginal

Cloth Diapers: What do you do when your friends aren’t worried about disposable diaper waste?
January 14, 2011 3:26 pm | by

I received this question on my Facebook page this week. It was posted by Bethany Haid, a Cotton Babies customer and a bumGenius user. Bethany writes:   Jen, I have a friend that said, “So what? I don’t really care about all the waste.” How do you respond to people who are intolerant of cloth diapering or really indifferent about the negative impacts of paper diapers? Just wondering! Bethany’s question is so good that I thought I’d answer it here on the blog rather than let it get lost in the bowels of Facebook.   You have a few choices.

Phil & Ted’s Lobster High Chair
January 14, 2011 6:04 am | by

I’m sure I’m not the only parent who has ever cringed at the sight of the high chairs available at my local restaurants. Let’s face it, a baby wipe is certainly not going to cut it when it comes to that level of dried food grime. At Cotton Babies, we really love the Phil&Ted’s Metoo high chair. It is great because it allows your child to sit at the table with the rest of the family and eliminates the need to use the often dirty high chairs in restaurants. But, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the newest high

Indoor Winter Entertainment
January 12, 2011 6:01 am | by

Months ago, when we first asked for topics you wanted us to discuss in our Real Mom Talk series indoor winter entertainment was one of the requested topics. Your winters may be long or short, depending on where you live. Regardless of geography or weather, there are occasions where you may be stuck indoors for longer than you (or your children) like. During pregnancy through the toddler and preschool stages, it seems indoor days are more frequent than at other stages of life. Here are a few of my favorite indoor activities that don’t require anything more than a quick

Snow Day Giveaway

In St. Louis, many of our schools are closed for a snow day today. While we were sleeping, the magical white blanket covered the ground and the roads too. But never fear, the Cotton Babies team trekked through the snow to pack your orders and receive your phone calls, our offices are open today!   For our Snow Day giveaway today, we want to know, what is your favorite snow or rain day activity? What activity do you love doing with your little one? Do you love to knit or read? Maybe you love making Bekah’s Peppermint Mocha. Is there
