Breastfeeding in Public – my experience in Ann Taylor
October 19, 2009 4:30 pm | by

Last week, we had to go to the Apple store to take care of a problem with my iPhone. While we were there, I had to back up the old iPhone to my laptop, which, if you own an iPhone, you’ll know can take quite a while. For 45 minutes, I held Elsie. She made it for a while, but eventually she got squirmy and fussy. It was time to eat. We hadn’t planned for a long stay and I was without a diaper bag. The Apple Store is bright and cheery and, by design, doesn’t offer even a corner

Back to the Bag
October 15, 2009 6:42 pm | by

I’ve had a nice break this summer – from the constant presence of the diaper bag anyway, if not from anything else. Lily went to full time panties in June and I carried around a bag for a couple weeks after that.  As she became more reliable I left a change of clothes in the car and resurrected my long forgotten purse.  It was great!  I felt like I had lost about 20 pounds!  I only brought the diaper bag with me if we were going to be stuck in one place for very long, like a waiting room, to

Some of my favorite baby shower gifts…
October 14, 2009 2:53 pm | by

I am not a mom, but I am a very proud “aunt” many, many times over. As such, I find myself constantly going to baby showers – all the time lately. I love going and celebrating the life that is coming into the world. It is so important and significant to me to honor the women in my life and watch, love and support them as they have cared for the life growing inside them before they even met them…face to face that is. Now, every time I am invited to a shower, I want to take something really great,

A New Approach to Blog Reviews from Cotton Babies
October 8, 2009 1:20 pm | by

I have been thinking a lot about how blogs review our products and how we want you, our customers, and faithful cloth diapering champions, to consider those reviews as you research the many cloth diapering choices that are out there. In July, I posted a blog that talked about the Cotton Babies approach to bloggers reviewing our products – http://clothdiapers.blogspot.com/2009/07/bumgenius-cotton-babies-reviews-are.html. Until this point, we have taken the “let them come to us” approach and, upon reviewing their blog, we have decided whether or not to send a sample for them to review. We have come to realize how much we

FTC Rules on Bloggers
October 5, 2009 9:28 pm | by

The FTC has finally released guidelines for bloggers about endorsements and advertising! Cotton Babies has been watching for this, hoping that we would eventually get clarification about how the FTC feels about the issue. We are frequently approached by bloggers requesting free product in exchange for a published review. Some are professional. Others, well, not so much. Now that the FTC guidelines have been published, please stay tuned for more from Cotton Babies on this all-important subject. I want to digest this document before I dive into my thoughts. While you’re waiting, here is a link directly to the FTC

Awesome 1 Year Video
September 29, 2009 3:31 pm | by

Ok…so I know I’m a little late posting this…that whole “launching Flip & Econobum” thing has been taking up quite a bit of time around here. But better late than never…right? This video is just so awesome. Amber Smirnow took a picture of her little guy, Alexander, every single day the first year of his life. If that isn’t dedication, I don’t know what is!!! Then she set it to a really great song (that totally gets stuck in your head and has me bopping along at my desk) and here it is...so if you haven’t seen it yet, you

Are we a big company?
September 25, 2009 11:50 am | by

I read an awesome blog post last night from a Cotton Babies customer. Autumn Beck runs “All About Cloth Diapers“. Here is a quote from what she wrote here:   Okay, I’ve always been honest with y’all so I won’t hold back. When I first started cloth diapering I strongly disliked all things made by Cotton Babies. I know, terrible, isn’t it?! You want to know what’s worse? I had never even tried one of their products. I completely made some crazy assumption that it was “big business” with no family behind it. Um…I couldn’t have been more wrong. Cotton

Are Flip disposable inserts biodegradable?
September 24, 2009 11:05 am | by

How many of you are wondering if the disposable inserts that are coming with Flip are biodegradable? Plenty it seems, because our customer service email box is overflowing with this particular question.   You may find it interesting to know that Kmart got in trouble with the FTC this summer because they were advertising paper plates as biodegradable. The FTC says that the actual anticipated disposal of a product labeled “biodegradable” must be in a form that encourages biodegradation. Did you know that 91% of consumer waste ends up in landfills? Landfills are essentially time capsules for waste. No matter
