How do they do it?
February 6, 2013 5:00 pm | by

Toddlers are amazing. They are able to quietly sit in one spot while playing with their toys in such a sweet, adorable way that makes you want to fill an entire Instagram account with pictures in less than 10 minutes. Then, the dryer buzzes or you have to check on dinner. And in the 15 seconds you aren’t watching, your sweet innocent toddler just destroyed an entire room. Let’s not even talk about what it’s like to have twins or more than one preschool age child in your home — at the same time. Depending on their age, it can

Winter First Foods
January 30, 2013 10:30 am | by

My first three boys were all born in the spring or early summer, which meant that they were ready to start eating solid foods as fall turned into winter. This is, in my humble and decidedly non-medical opinion, the best time of year to start on solids. Why? Well because squash* and sweet potatoes are in season! Technically, we are currently just past the peak season for these veggies, but you can still find fresh and flavorful squash and sweet potatoes in the stores and at some farmer’s markets (depending on where you live). I think they make great first

January 29, 2013 5:29 pm | by

Are you considering the switch from disposable to cloth diapers but aren’t sure how to make the first steps? Econobum cloth diapers are an economical way to start cloth diapering. Econobum cloth diapers are specifically designed to be budget friendly, which means you’ll cross the threshold from investment to savings even more quickly than with other styles of cloth diapers. Let’s take a look at it this way: an Econobum trial pack comes with one cover and three cotton prefold inserts. You can wipe out and reuse the cover multiple times, which means your Econobum trial pack is three diaper

Realistic Teething Toys
January 25, 2013 5:06 pm | by

It doesn’t take too long for most parents to discover that their child’s favorite toy is often not a toy at all. Once babies begin exploring their world, they often explore by putting things in their mouth, which means they also need to be safe. We have some great new products at Cotton Babies to solve both of those problems! First up, for the baby who just loves the shine and clink of metal, we have Kleynimals stainless steel toy keys. These “keys” come three to a key ring, just like your real keys. However, they have smooth edges so

Frugal Style

Adding a new child or additional children to our family has stretched us in a lot of ways, but primarily financially. One of the biggest expenses we all face is clothing. Today I’d like to share a few ways we’ve saved on clothing for our kids in the past few years. Say “yes” to hand-me-downs When you first find out the gender of your baby, whether that is before birth or after, you’ll probably get offers from family and friends to pass on their same-gendered children’s outgrown clothing. It’s easy to brush these offers off, thinking that you want to

How many cloth diapers do I need to start?
January 21, 2013 11:00 am | by

One of the first questions that anyone who is considering cloth diapering asks is “How many diapers do I need to cloth diaper?” Recommended Minimum Number of Cloth Diapers For full time cloth diapering, we recommend 24 cloth diapers, regardless of the style you choose. Why 24? Breastfed newborns often go through 8-10 cloth diapers a day. To avoid stink, mold, mildew and other issues, we recommending washing your cloth diapers every other day. With 24 diapers, you have a few extra clean cloth diapers to get you through a day or two while the rest are in the washing

Thursday Giveaway: Sweet Sleep
January 17, 2013 4:00 pm | by

Do you have a sleep routine? I do. Thankfully some wise friend shared with me early in my parenting routine the importance of a consistent bedtime routine for my children. Not only do I have a routine for my children, I also have one for myself. Sleep experts say having a consistent set of behaviors before bed helps to signal your body that it is time to sleep. They suggest activities that calm you, quiet your mind and comfort your body. A nice bath or shower and clean cozy PJs are an important part of my children’s bedtime routine. Followed

No Spend January

The start of a new year always brings with it the inevitable question, “What are your resolutions?” While I’m not really a resolutions kind of girl (it feels a little too much like homework to me), I do think that a new year can be a good time to start working towards some larger goals, if only because it’s an easy time to mark on the calendar. Just like it’s easier to start a diet on a Monday. Or maybe that‘s just me. I think less in terms of “I’ll eat six vegetables every day” (which is a worthy aspiration)
