Real Mom Talk: DIY Halloween Costume
October 24, 2015 9:11 pm | by

I love Halloween! Actually, I just love dressing up and being someone else for a day. Long before I had my daughter, I had a collection of future baby Halloween costume ideas. However, the DIY daddy costume wasn’t on that list, but this is something I’d strongly consider if you’re looking for something quick and easy!

My baby would look EXACTLY like my husband, so of course, I had to take advantage of the opportunity because I don’t know how long this strong resemblance will last. I decided to take the most recognizable features of Lola’s dad and create a look that everyone would immediately identify.

My husband rarely has a clean shave so of course Lola needed a five o’clock shadow, which I achieved with a stippling brush and dark eyeshadow. It turned out a little more hobo than beard, but it still worked. Next, I added my husband’s ever-present hat and some ‘little man’ clothes — both of which were borrowed from friends. Finally, if you still weren’t sure who my baby was dressed as, we added a bass fishing rod toy and a couple of temporary tattoos. Now, there is no doubt who she is supposed to be!

I’m sure you’re wondering how much I spent on this costume, and the total cost was $0.

Special Note: This project was done hastily in between major virus poos. Lola was a good sport because I bribed her with Teddy Grahams, which she intuitively knows to call ‘cookies’.  Given the circumstances, I was only able to capture one good photo of the final costume — and that’s only because I was singing Itsy Bitsy Spider. So, here you go.
