How do they do it?
February 6, 2013 5:00 pm | by

Toddlers are amazing. They are able to quietly sit in one spot while playing with their toys in such a sweet, adorable way that makes you want to fill an entire Instagram account with pictures in less than 10 minutes. Then, the dryer buzzes or you have to check on dinner. And in the 15 seconds you aren’t watching, your sweet innocent toddler just destroyed an entire room. Let’s not even talk about what it’s like to have twins or more than one preschool age child in your home — at the same time.

Depending on their age, it can be hit or miss when it comes to your little one tiding up a room with a smile. One of my favorite tricks to keep the house as tidy as possible is to use a colorful toy bin in each room, which makes clean up a bit more fun and fast. Singing a song can also make it a lot more fun as well. If multiple children are around, we sometimes like to make it a little bit of a game to see who can win the race.

Of course, toys like to travel too so every few days, or at least once a week, we have to sort through the toy bins in every room of our house to help our beloved friends find their way back to their original home.

For bath toys, I love using a Boon Bug or Frog Pod. Little hands love scooping up their toys and watching the water cascade down. In fact, it usually requires two or three scoops before bath time is officially over.

No matter how evolved my methods and plans are for keeping a tidy home, I feel like I’m overwhelmed with toys, books and all things kid related, especially in the winter. I used to wonder why they called it “spring cleaning,” but now I’m beginning to understand. A few days of warm weather make me want to clean everything!

How about you? How do you keep things neat and tidy with little ones in the house, especially during the cold winter months? Share your tips in the comments below and let’s all learn a new trick or two!
