Real Mom Talk: Memorial Day
May 20, 2014 11:59 am | by

IMG_3074.jpgMemorial Day is a holiday in which we reflect upon those who have served for our country, especially those who have gave their lives for our freedom. With my husband being active duty in the United States Marine Corps, this holiday holds a special place in my heart.  Here in the states, we tend to forget the actual meaning of this holiday. It’s fun to have a day off work to jump start the summer festivities, but it’s also important to reflect upon this holiday and celebrate the true meaning behind it. I’m sharing with you a few fun memorial day activities that you can do with your family in honor of the holiday.

Attend a local parade/festival – Many towns hold Memorial Day parades and festivals honoring those who have served in our nation’s military. These make for a fun educational outing for the whole family and a chance to honor those who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom.

Visit a national cemetery – Most national cemeteries hold a very special ceremony on Memorial Day honoring those who have given their lives fighting for our country. If you have never attend one I highly recommend that you do. These ceremonies are very touching.

Send a care package or letter to a deployed service member – Remember that while we are celebrating here in the states there still are deployed service members spending the holiday overseas. It’s always nice to send them a little something, whether it be a letter or package of goodies, thanking them for their service and letting them know they are still being remembered. You contact the USO or VFA for address to send letters and packages to.

Donate to the USO or other military organizations – There are tons of military organizations and even the USO that accepts donations that they put to great use in the military community. Whether is a small or large donation anything is greatly appreciate!

Throw a Party – Host a party and invite a service member or former service member over. Memorial Day celebrates all services members past and present. BBQ’s are a great way to say thanks and a ton of fun!

Although Memorial Day is a super fun holiday that kicks off the summer season, educate your kids on the real meaning behind this special day.

Have a Happy Memorial Day!

As a reminder the Cotton Babies corporate office, which includes the shipping, wholesale and customer service departments, will be closed Monday, May 26, in honor of Memorial Day.

Offices will reopen Tuesday, May 27, 2013. All customer service phone calls and emails will be returned in the order they were received when our office re-open.

Our retail stores will be open on Memorial Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
