Real Mom Talk: Top Cloth Diapering Accessories

One of the best things about cloth diapers is that they are so simple to use! With cloth diapering, you really only need a handful of extra supplies and accessories to diaper your child from birth to potty-training!

I’ll start with the essentials. In addition to a stash of roughly 20-24 cloth diapers, you will need reusable wipes (bumGenius Flannel Wipes have held up extremely well for me), a diaper pail or large wet-bag, and diaper-safe detergent. That’s it! That’s all you need for a no-frills, minimalist approach to cloth-diapering. My initial cloth-diaper stash took up just one basket, and the wet-bag was discreetly stored in my bathroom.

I am a minimalist at heart. The less “stuff” I need to get the job done, the better! But now that I am pregnant with #4 and also cloth-diapering a toddler, I have realized the benefit of adding a few extra, albeit practical, accessories to my arsenal. Bummis Bio-Soft Liners are great to have on-hand, especially if you don’t own a diaper sprayer. They make diaper clean-up super easy by acting as a barrier between the diaper and the mess. You just remove the soiled liner and flush it away. And they biodegrade quickly. Win-win!

They fasten the pre-fold onto baby, the way old-school diaper pins do, minus the potential hazard of poking baby. Which is a pretty good advantage in my opinion! Two of my sisters are currently pregnant and plan to use Econobum and Flip diapers. I will be tucking a few Snappis into their gift-basket!

It now comes in clear silicone which I think is a big improvement over the prior version. It keeps the spray contained to a very small area which is great for those stubborn poops that want to cling for dear life on the diaper. (Hey, man, it happens!) The Spray Pal also performs a similar function by acting as a shield from rogue poop-water. You just secure the diaper to the clip and spray away! And after your baby is potty-trained, you can add magnets and use it as a handy tri-fold clipboard for your child’s chore-chart! (I kid, I kid!)

I am currently drooling over this super-stylish Timi & Leslie Charlie Diaper Bag. Mostly because it’s gorgeous and doesn’t look like a diaper bag! But also because it comes with so many practical features, like a weather- and water-resistant interior and exterior, a matching clutch, and zippered bag for soiled clothes, which will make life easier while on-the-go.
