Summer Babywearing
July 15, 2014 6:25 pm | by

Summer BabywearingBabywearing has been a lifesaver for me since my little one was a newborn. It has made my shopping trips smoother, has freed up my hands, and has allowed me to create a bond with my little one that is like no other. With that being said, babywearing during the summer months can sometimes be a little difficult. With high temperatures and humid weather it’s important to not only keep your little one cool, but yourself as well. Here are some tips for summer babywearing.

Keep Cool. If you live in a rather warm climate investing in a lighter material baby carrier for the summer months is a must. Cotton Babies carries a wide variety of lightweight carriers and the Sakura Bloom Essential Linen is a favorite of mine. It’s lightweight, comfortable to wear, and stylish. For those of you with older babies a backpack infant carrier, such as the Ergobaby, is a great carrier for the summer months as well. I suggest going with a lighter color, such as the camel Ergobaby, for maximum cooling. Other ways to keep cool while babywearing during the summer months are to dress yourself and your little one appropriately. I always wear lightweight tanks and shorts while babywearing on a hot day. As for my little guy a simple cotton onesie and bucket hat keep him cool and comfortable. Also don’t forget the sunblock!

Hydrate. It’s important to keep you and your little one hydrated during the summer months. If you are nursing it’s even more important to increase your daily water intake. I find that if I don’t drink plenty of water when wearing my little guy, I get tired and sweaty pretty quickly. I always pack an insulated water bottle for myself as well as for my little guy in the diaper bag.

Timing. We live in the California High Desert and average temps in July/August out here are usually in the triple digits. If I have errands to run, appointments, grocery shopping, etc, I always try to do them during the early morning hours before the sun is blazing.

Summer Babywearing

I babywear in the summer on a daily basis. With my little guy approaching the toddler years and being very curious, I feel that wearing him when we are out and about is the safest thing to do. I hope you all enjoyed these summer babywearing tips!

Do you have any summer babywearing tips? What is your baby carrier of preference?
