Guess what! It’s National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. In the past, I’ve shared what my experience was like to have a baby at work. I thought those days were long behind us. Then, COVID-19 happened and I have found myself at home with a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old. First of all, I don’t want this post to come off as ungrateful. One of the unique benefits of working at Cotton Babies is that we welcome babies at work. You’ve all seen the blog from the lovely Julia about bringing her son, Tommy, to work with her at the corporate offices for Cotton Babies. (If you haven’t, read it here and the update here…) There’s a whole other side to bringing babies to work that differs from the office spaces that are Cotton Babies: the retail store. I was lucky enough to be able to quit my full-time job to work part-time, and, added bonus, bring my little one to work with me!
The last few months have flown by! Tommy is now TEN months old! He’s come to work with me full-time until the past few weeks. Now, he spends 1-2 days a week with Grandma. It’s good for us both as he gets used to being with other people and I have some more time to really focus on my work. I think it’s a great transition. Going cold turkey would be really hard! As Baby Grows, Things Change Things that have changed since my last post: He’s becoming more mobile. He’s dropped his third nap. Cleaning up after lunch is messy!
I am extremely lucky to work at a company that goes out of its way to support mothers and families. At Cotton Babies, I get to bring my baby to work. With this month being National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, we’re not only celebrating this special time between a mom and baby, but also promoting how to make breastfeeding “work” in the workplace. Cotton Babies has “made it work” from day one. Cotton Babies Founder and CEO Jenn Labit started the business with her eight-week old baby by her side. Her very first employee started while several months pregnant, with her second employee soon to follow. Pretty soon, there were multiple moms with babies in the workplace.
