Will She Notice?
May 7, 2009 12:19 am | by

I posted recently that I have had Lily (19months) in disposables while I navigated the stormy waters of morning sickness. I wondered what she would think when I switched her back. The first cloth diaper I put on her as a bumGenius. I didn’t point it out to her that it was any different than her usual disposable diaper, I just did a matter-of-fact diaper change and sent her on her way. She didn’t blink an eye and did not seem to notice a difference in any way. At the next diaper change, I tried something different. I let her

Lower the carbon impact of using cloth diapers!
May 4, 2009 7:36 pm | by

So, I learned something new recently. According to a recent UK study, we can lower the carbon (ie: environmental) impact of using cloth diapers to 40% less (!) than the carbon impact of using disposable diapers. You can. Here’s how: 1. Wash cloth diapers in temperatures under 140 F / 60 C. 2. Line dry cloth diapers. 3. Use your diapers for a second child. If you need to know what carbon impact is… here’s a quick primer: Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that affects the ozone layer. Lowering greenhouse gas emissions helps address global warming issues. The goal

11 Weeks
April 25, 2009 10:40 pm | by

It’s been a while since I have been around here, since December 4th to be exact. How did it get to be the end of April? It’s been a bit of a busy year around here. My oldest child moved out to go to college, and we discovered that we were expecting again. I am now 11 weeks along and I think I am on the upswing from the nasty nausea that has been ever present for the last several weeks. I can’t complain though – after suffering from hyperemesis during almost every one of my pregnancies, a little bit

A new bumGenius tester is born…
March 3, 2009 2:24 pm | by

Elsie Lillian Labit was born on February 13th at 7:18am, weighing 8 pounds even. She is healthy, beautiful and such a happy little girl. Please forgive my lack of initial updates. I’d planned to blog through the first bit of her life, but it hasn’t happened between recovering from having a baby and just adjusting to life with a newborn at home. Elsie has been in cloth diapers alternating with disposables as needed. I have about 16 newborn diaper changes and we’re doing a load of diapers nearly every day right now. We can use the bumGenius One-Size diapers now

I just spent $19.97 on a package of disposable diapers.
January 4, 2009 8:23 pm | by

I realized a few days ago that I’ve done nothing – absolutely nothing – to prepare for this baby. Most women spend nine months “getting ready”. I’m eight months pregnant and just haven’t had time yet to engage with the fact that yes, indeed, this bump that keeps me awake at night is a baby. It needs some basics like clean clothes, diapers, a place to sleep and a place to ride in the car. I need to get with it or Jimmy is going to be out shopping instead of hanging with me after the baby is born! So,

Soggy Diaper Day
December 4, 2008 12:35 pm | by

Every once in a while there comes a day when you just can’t get a moment to change a diaper. This morning was like that for me. Lily woke up around 6:45 and I changed her into a new bumGenius and put her jammies back on. A few moments later my 11 year old came up to me and pulled up his shirt, revealing a lovely speckled rash. Hmm… that is a trip to the doctor for sure. I already was keeping my six year old home, she needed a chance to sleep in because she had been up coughing

Poo: To Spray or Not To Spray
October 29, 2008 3:19 pm | by

***Update***The wee wiggler finally filled her diaper this morning! I tried out the diaper spraying bottle idea with much enthusiasm! I’m not so sure how I feel about it. It wasn’t a raging success, that’s for sure. I really couldn’t get it to squirt with enough pressure to do a good job of cleaning off the mess. There was alot of brownish splatter left all over the toilet, yuck. I sure don’t want to have to scrub the toilet every time I change a dirty diaper. So, I’ll hang in there and try my idea a few more times…but it

Disposable Diapers are Hot
September 2, 2008 3:30 pm | by

We are in the process of moving from one house to another and the situation has been difficult at best and brain-frying at worst. In the midst of all this I have had Lily is disposable diapers after not using any disposables all Summer. It should make for one less thing to worry about, right? I had forgotten how hot they are! Every time I take one off of Lily it is stuck to her lower back with sweat. Even in the night and when she is in the air conditioning the whole time she wears it, she is still

How Often?
August 29, 2008 10:45 pm | by

How often do you need to change your baby’s cloth diaper? Well isn’t that the question of the century? I think the best answer you can get it just depends. It depends on baby’s age, on how, what and how often they are eating. I depends on how they are sleeping and the condition of their skin. You can see that the answer to this question is one that every family has to work out for themselves. If your baby is soaking through his clothes, change him more often. If your baby isn’t even wet yet, wait a while. That doesn’t
