I won’t lie, April Fools’ Day is one of my favorite days of the year! It has become an annual tradition for me to pull a prank on my husband and kids. Luckily, my kids love to be goofy and my husband is a good sport about it. Hey, traditions are important for every family, right? 🙂 April Fools’ Day is this week, so you still have time to trick the people you love most—your kids! Here are my favorite family-friendly pranks! Catch your little ones by surprise with one (or more!) of these fun ideas: Serve raw octopus for

Valentine’s Day for a third-grader means decorated shoe boxes filled with chalky hearts.  At age 13, it means carnations from secret admirers and awkward dances.  At 21, it means a LBD and a fancy restaurant. Now, 4 kids and mortgage later, it doesn’t exactly mean the same thing and those Valentine’s traditions vary. When a “real life” mom plans a Valentine’s date, these things typically come to my mind: Finding a babysitter who doesn’t have plans, the cost of said babysitter, making dinner reservations, crowded and overpriced restaurants, and then the feeling of disappointment because my expectations didn’t hit reality.
Every now and then, you need a little something to make you feel better and give you a boost of cheer. Whether it be a compliment, a piece of chocolate or even a nap, a little pick-me-up can go a long way, especially when you’re a mom. Here are some of my tips to make any mom feel good. Tackle the Difficult Task: Have you been dreading organizing your daughter’s closet? Spend a couple hours and do it. It feels amazing to get something done that you have been putting off. Be Grateful: Write a gratitude list in your journal or spend

Ahh, fall. A time to indulge in lattes, boots, and sweaters! But really, the best thing about fall is the colors; the season is filled with so many beautiful hues of orange, yellow, green and red. Each year, I try to surround myself with all the different shades and tones of autumn in nearly every regard. And from fashion to nature, there’s a color for anything. Even cloth diapers. For this week’s giveaway five people will fall into Flip and win a One-Size Diaper Cover in Sassy, Butternut, Noodle, Clementine, or Ribbit. Want to enter? This week is National Camping Week and to celebrate, our family went camping last weekend for the first time since we’ve become parents. I love being outdoors and since my husband and I both work in tech-related fields, it’s very difficult for us to completely disconnect and take a break as long as there is cell service available. There’s nothing quite like going deep into the woods to render your smartphone useless. At first, our kids seemed to be annoyed at the amount of effort required to do anything, especially the hike to the outhouse. There was a great deal
Are you are up to your elbows in dirty diapers? Is someone is always hungry? Can you go a single day without stepping on some sharp little toy with your bare feet? At my house, this can be extremely difficult. Some days it is hard to find the beauty in the ordinary moments of life. I’ve recently been inspired by a fun little photo meme started by Fat Mum Slim, an Australian blogger. The idea is simple, each day you take a photo inspired by a word or short phrase. It doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to
Music is a big part of our day. We have dance parties, listen to music while cooking and sing songs before bed. I’m not sure we could get through our day without music! There usually comes a point in each day when the boys are bored (and therefore a little cranky) and we need something to shake everyone back into more positive thinking. You know what I’m talking about- when every suggested activity gets shot down and everyone wants to do something but no one wants to do anything. This is when we turn to dance parties. I have a
One of the things I love about having children is experiencing their sense of humor at different ages and stages. My sons have an amazing sense of humor. I frequently explain to people that my twin sons are much like the Two-Headed Monster on Sesame Street. They share a lot of inside jokes and once one gets a case of the giggles, the other joins in and they are nearly unstoppable. A couple of years ago, I took a risk and introduced my children to April Fools’ day. It was a big hit and has quickly become a beloved day
