The Legacy of Chico Mendes

chico

Last Saturday was Earth Day, which U.S. Senator, Gaylord Nelson, founded on April 22, 1970. Earth Day was originally set up as an environmental teach-in hosted at many colleges, universities, primary and secondary schools, as well as hundreds of communities across the United States. More than 40 years later, Earth Day is still going strong, bringing millions of Americans together in peaceful demonstrations and celebrations in favor of environmental reform. Earth Day has many heroes and we think it truly celebrates the legacy of Chico Mendes. Growing up in the jungle Chico Mendes developed a love and respect for nature early in life.

The music of Mozart, melodies from a man who lived centuries ago, continues to sing to generations. He was the youngest of seven children, five of which sadly died as babies. Music & Mozart Music was always a part of Mozart’s life. By the age of five, not only could he play the keyboard and violin, but composed music too! His work is the definition of the Classical era; he composed symphonies, concertos, operas, and is known to

April 11, 2017 12:13 pm | by

Alicia Boole Stott, better known as “The Princess of Polytopia,” was a Irish-English mathematician who not only introduced the meaning of the word “polytope,” but was also one of the first to explore the fourth dimension. Alicia was an outside-the-box thinker who saw beauty from all angles. Math Ran in the Family It seems that this “mathematic-genius aptitude” ran in her blood. Her father, George Boole, was a mathematician, educator, philosopher, and logician. He even has a form of algebra named after him, Boolean algebra, which has played a major part in the development of digital electronics and programming languages.
