It’s already warmed up enough here to start re-planting our garden. It wasn’t much of a success last year, but that doesn’t stop us from trying again! It’s been really fun to get outside with my kids now that they are both mobile toddlers who don’t need help walking. Their favorite activity when we’re outside is to watch what I’m doing and “help”. This week is National Camping Week and to celebrate, our family went camping last weekend for the first time since we’ve become parents. I love being outdoors and since my husband and I both work in tech-related fields, it’s very difficult for us to completely disconnect and take a break as long as there is cell service available. There’s nothing quite like going deep into the woods to render your smartphone useless. At first, our kids seemed to be annoyed at the amount of effort required to do anything, especially the hike to the outhouse. There was a great deal
When I was pregnant with my first baby, I decided to look into cloth diapering. I had heard it was very different from the cloth diapering of the olden days, so I thought I would try and find some more information and then make an educated decision about whether I wanted to try it or use disposables. I immediately became overwhelmed. What were prefolds? How many diapers did I need? How do you wash cloth diapers? Isn’t it gross? Why would anyone want to do this, anyway? So if you’re feeling inundated with too much information, here are the highlights

Back when Vicki was 6 months old, I started taking her to swimming lessons. I prepared weeks in advance by registering her for swimming, buying her a bathing suit, and purchasing a reusable swim diaper. I was good to go. Everything went swimmingly (pun intended) for a few months, and we greatly enjoyed our weekly swim. Then it got cold and I dropped the ball and forgot to register for the winter session. By the time we went back to swimming, Vicki needed a new bathing suitand she had grown out of her swim diaper. As I was pressed for
So you had your kids, they used the cloth diapers, and now everyone’s in college (or kindergarten, or preschool, or whatever) and those diapers are not getting used anymore. What are you supposed to do with what you have left? Some people use cloth diapers with the express intent to resell the diapers when they’re done using them. And that’s definitely an option. But not the only one! Lending/giving diapers to friends is another way to go. A good portion of our tiny newborn diapers have been lent out to friends. In 2010, I was due with my youngest and
