The Music of Mozart
April 18, 2017 12:25 pm | by

The music of Mozart, melodies from a man who lived centuries ago, continues to sing to generations. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (his whole name is quite the mouth-full!) was born in Salzburg, Austria and baptized as Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart. He was the youngest of seven children, five of which sadly died as babies. Music & Mozart Music was always a part of Mozart’s life. By the age of five, not only could he play the keyboard and violin, but composed music too! His work is the definition of the Classical era; he composed symphonies, concertos, operas, and is known to

Outdoor Fun With Toddlers
March 13, 2013 2:00 pm | by

Now that the weather is warming up for most of us, you’ll notice there are a lot more opportunities to get outside and have some fun with your kids at organized events such as farmers markets, music festivals, art festivals, and other local or civic events. We are particularly blessed to live in a large urban area that offers a ton of family friendly activities. One of our favorite activities is a nearby art festival, which we can walk to from our house. Over the past few years, we’ve taken our children as babies and toddlers to various events and

Inside Cotton Babies: Afternoon DJ
September 5, 2012 2:05 pm | by

At Cotton Babies, we love music! If you walked through our office and warehouse, you’d see people with iPods, wearing ear buds and occasionally music coming through speakers. In the marketing office, we even like to play “Afternoon DJ,” a game in which we each take turns choosing a song that’s often based on a theme for the day. Our musical styles vary greatly, as do our ages, so the result is often fun and entertaining. To celebrate 30,000 Facebook likes on the Cotton Babies page, we put together a little playlist to give you an inside peek at what

Lullabies
May 5, 2012 11:52 am | by

Just like Claire, we sing a lot throughout the day. I make up little songs for finishing meals, sing the ABCs when brushing Vicki’s teeth, and nothing beats a good rendition of “The Wheels on the Bus” to calm down a cranky toddler in the car. But my favorite time to sing is bedtime. When I was a little girl, my mom used to sing us lullabies every night. The same songs, in the same order, all snuggled together on one of our beds. It was our signal that it was time to sleep. It was our reminder that we

Making It Up and Packing it with Cheese
May 2, 2012 11:03 am | by

I didn’t spend much time around babies and kids in my younger years. I never babysat (well, I did once and it ended with me on the couch sobbing because I had NO idea what I was doing) and most of my friends were only children or the youngest of their brothers and sisters. So when I finally had my own babies I didn’t have a taste for children’s music and I most certainly didn’t know the words. So I made them up. Part of me has always lived in fear that my oldest would sing our family version of

Incorporating Music into Our Day
April 25, 2012 12:14 pm | by

Music is a big part of our day. We have dance parties, listen to music while cooking and sing songs before bed. I’m not sure we could get through our day without music! There usually comes a point in each day when the boys are bored (and therefore a little cranky) and we need something to shake everyone back into more positive thinking. You know what I’m talking about- when every suggested activity gets shot down and everyone wants to do something but no one wants to do anything. This is when we turn to dance parties. I have a
