Tips for Treating Diaper Rash at Home

Disclaimer: This article does not seek to offer medical advice, and should not be treated as such. Please do consult your local pediatrician for the best remedies for diaper rash. Your baby starts crying again, and you wonder for the 5th time that morning, what could it be this time? She’s fed, had enough sleep, her diapers was changed barely half an hour ago and the air conditioner is merrily chugging away so she couldn’t possibly be feeling hot. As you open the clasp of her diaper you realize that bumpy red rashes have spread across her bum. Diaper rash

Sending Kids Back to School: Time to Celebrate or Sing the Blues?

Back to school blues

Back to Scool Blues My kids still have a few years until they start kindergarten, but last night at daycare we had a graduation party for the kids who are heading off to kindergarten. I know it’s normal for parents to feel some sadness as their kids move on from being preschoolers to kindergarten, but it hit me surprisingly hard. Back to school season turns the emotional ante way up. The kids we were celebrating were not mine, and truthfully, I barely know them other than the fact that they were in my daughter’s class. There was a sweet ceremony

How Being a Mom Changes from First Baby to Second, Third…

Embrace the changing stages of life as a mom.

Like any good mom, I was spending the majority of naptime scrolling through my Instagram feed and watching Insta-stories. I came across the Insta-story of one of my author heroes, Sarah Bessey, in which she threw a birthday party for her daughter with full-blown, store-bought, brand-name, superhero-themed plates, napkins, cups, decor, all the way down to the party attire and cake. Adorable. Besides making a memory of her daughter’s special day, part of what she captured in her story was the passing of time. This was not the old familiar day from birthday’s past with hand-crafted locally-sourced party favors. This

Mom of a toddler

It has been over two years since I last mused on all I’ve learned as a parent of one. My daughter is now three and every day is a roller coaster of emotions and laughs. She’s spirited. Yes. We will go with that euphemism. Here are some things I’ve learned as a mom of a toddler. A lot has changed since my last list. 20 Things I Know as a Mom of a Toddler I know NOTHING. I have more questions than answers. Questions like, is this karma? Wait, we don’t spank anymore, right? Time out? Time in? When can

Calm Mama Tea – A Blend for Postpartum and Beyond
January 4, 2017 8:00 am | by

We all know the children’s tale of Peter Rabbit whose mother gives him a cup of Chamomile tea after having a hectic day. Mama Rabbit is very wise. This calm herbal tea blend is a DIY mix especially for moms to help us relax after a long day of pouring into our children’s lives. Making tea in itself is telling our bodies to slow down for a moment and make something for yourself. Take care of yourself with herbs great for your nervous system by creating a Homemade Calm Mama Tea blend (or course, dads can enjoy this as well!).

Raising a Fiercely Determined Child
November 22, 2016 12:10 pm | by

I have a fiercely determined child.  She’s smart, beautiful, creative, and once she puts her mind to something, there is no stopping her.  You can try to slow her down, but actually stopping her from what she has set her heart on is highly unlikely.  Raising Avianna Marilyn has been a learning process for me. Avianna was born 5 years ago on a beautiful October morning.  Her birth was the easiest out of my three girls.  I was at the hospital for only 45 minutes before she was born, and the entire experience was amazing.  I pushed three times, and this

Back to School: The Second Time
September 12, 2016 11:09 am | by

This summer flew by! One day, we’re hanging out by the pool and the next thing I know, it’s time for the kids to go back to school! This may be our second year of “school life,” but I have to say – it does not get any easier leaving them on that very first day.  This year is a little more of an adjustment for me because I not only have a child in full-day kindergarten, but also one preschool half the day. I must admit – my routine is starting off pretty hectic. I’m basically a chauffeur half the day, driving back and

Reacting to My Fourth Pregnancy
August 23, 2016 4:07 pm | by

It was 5:00 am on Christmas morning. My husband was sleeping, blissfully unaware of the anxiety I was feeling as I laid awake next to him. I had just taken a pregnancy test and it was positive. No, this was not my first pregnancy test rodeo, but seeing that little blue line caused an old, familiar, mild panic to rise up in my body. Reality started sinking in; I was about to experience my fourth pregnancy. The evening before, Christmas Eve, is when 2 of my siblings joyously announced their pregnancies to our family. Which caused me to pause, re-count

Planning for Baby #2

Planning for #2 — We’d been trying for baby #2 for around a year or so now, and as soon as we found out that we were expecting, the “OH MY GOODNESS WE ARE HAVING ANOTHER BABY” mode kicked in. Since then, I’ve felt just about every emotion imaginable thanks to those ever-changing pregnancy hormones. It’s been almost four years since I had a baby, so I’m trying to take things slow, enjoy my time with my little guy and still prepare for our newest arrival! Here are a few things I’ve learned so far in planning for this second little
