Real Mom Talk: Kids & Pets
April 27, 2016 6:56 pm | by

Our baby and fur baby are almost exactly three years apart. Asher came along when Melvin (the pup) was just three and it’s been an adjustment since. Melvin was pretty good when it came to getting used to Asher being around, but I can tell he isn’t always interested in playing when Asher is eager to have some fun. On occasion he will entertain Asher, but Melvin is pretty laid back and would rather be napping on the couch or hiding out somewhere.  Melvin is a smaller dog, a Shih-Tzu, and his demeanor is just easy. He’s a very well-behaved

Real Mom Talk: First Family Vacation
March 31, 2016 7:55 pm | by

We took our first family vacation last summer. Lola was 10 months old and we went to the lake for the the Fourth of July. Prior to this, we made many long road trips back and forth to my parents’ house, but this was different because our cabin wasn’t prepped ahead of time with baby gear. Lola sleeps much better in a very dark room, so we created a makeshift canopy with a comforter and some telescoping pole devices my husband found. We had to roll across two beds ninja style to get to the bathroom while she was sleeping to avoid destroying the contraption. I

Real Mom Talk: Kid-Friendly April Fools’ Day Pranks
March 31, 2016 7:39 pm | by

I won’t lie, April Fools’ Day is one of my favorite days of the year! It has become an annual tradition for me to pull a prank on my husband and kids. Luckily, my kids love to be goofy and my husband is a good sport about it. Hey, traditions are important for every family, right? 🙂 April Fools’ Day is this week, so you still have time to trick the people you love most—your kids! Here are my favorite family-friendly pranks! Catch your little ones by surprise with one (or more!) of these fun ideas: Serve raw octopus for

Real Mom Talk: Morning Routine
March 28, 2016 5:21 pm | by

Since I had my little guy, my morning routine has really simplified and the time it takes for me to get ready has significantly reduced. In 15 minutes or less, I’m ready to walk out the door. It’s not that I let myself go, I just have become a little more comfortable with just being myself … and more health conscious of what I’m putting on my face, body and hair. After having a little one and looking back, I often cringe on the money and time I wasted on harsh beauty products that didn’t do my body a bit of

Real Mom Talk: Why I Love Babywearing
March 4, 2016 10:06 am | by

When I started working at Cotton Babies, I knew absolutely nothing about cloth diapers, babywearing… really, anything about babies. But it sure didn’t take me long to learn! In no time, I memorized the names and colors of every cloth diaper we sold and became increasingly excited to one day cloth diaper my own baby. The interest in babywearing followed soon after. I’d watch and chat with ladies around the office wearing their babies (yes, we bring our babies to work), I’d research the carriers we sold, I’d scroll through the Flash Mob and see photos of all the different carriers

Postpartum Must-Haves
February 18, 2016 7:20 pm | by

I’ve had three children, and I’ve gotten better at figuring out exactly what I need for postpartum healing. Third time’s a charm, right? Here are some of my postpartum must-haves and what I’d recommend to a new mom who needs to recover from delivery.  Earth Mama Angel Baby New Mama Bottom Spray: Hemorrhoids, vaginal tears, swelling and just plain soreness. This is what happens after baby. Thankfully, New Bottom Spray has your back! 😉 I will never have a baby again without this stuff on hand. I used it in place of the numbing ointment the hospital gave me. I also

Valentine’s Day Traditions
February 9, 2016 8:08 pm | by

Valentine’s Day for a third-grader means decorated shoe boxes filled with chalky hearts.  At age 13, it means carnations from secret admirers and awkward dances.  At 21, it means a LBD and a fancy restaurant. Now, 4 kids and mortgage later, it doesn’t exactly mean the same thing and those Valentine’s traditions vary. When a “real life” mom plans a Valentine’s date, these things typically come to my mind: Finding a babysitter who doesn’t have plans, the cost of said babysitter, making dinner reservations, crowded and overpriced restaurants, and then the feeling of disappointment because my expectations didn’t hit reality.

You Know You Have Kids When..
January 31, 2016 6:30 pm | by

Kids. They’re fun. But also a handful at times. Since I’ve been a mom, there have been a few instances that TRULY defined what it meant to have kids. From bathroom retreats to spilled Cheerios in your backseat, you know you have kids when..? You know you have kids when… Going to the movies means a Redbox and pint of ice cream. You can’t remember the last time you went to the bathroom without someone sitting on your lap or crying outside the locked door. You feel obligated to tip the guys at Waterway $100 because you know how dirty your backseat was. You also

Handling Picky Eaters
January 18, 2016 7:32 pm | by

My little guy has always been a great eater. Ever since he first started solids, there was rarely anything he didn’t like. After he turned two, I worried that his great little eating habits would change, but they didn’t. I thought we were in the clear, well, that was until he turned three and now we’re learning how to handle a picky eater! For the last four months, my eager little eater has now turned into a persnickety muncher who turns his nose up at the sight of anything that’s not a boiled egg, pack of fruit snacks, or cereal. We’ve had

Real Mom Talk: Maternity Leave Survival Guide
January 12, 2016 6:52 pm | by

Congratulations on the arrival of your new little baby! Now that you’re officially on maternity leave, I hope you will enjoy it as much as you can! Eventually, you’ll go back to work and this small period of time, when everything seemed to stand still, will come to an end. I took 12 weeks of leave with each of my children. And each time, 12 weeks seemed like such a loooong stretch. But I am here to tell you that no matter how much maternity leave you take, it will fly by! It can be blissful and stressful. Here is
