We had an awesome day today… I love it when we can start off a blog post like that….
Everyone here has been practically holding their breath for when the fresh, new Flip Disposable Inserts would get to our warehouses. When I pulled into the parking lot this morning, I was delighted to see that a container was parked at the dock and our people were hard at work unloading the boxes into the warehouse.
As you can see, the wider edges on the new insert provide significantly more coverage that the old insert. The absorbent area is also wider and longer, making the entire insert more absorbent and functional.

What is the Flip Diapering System?
The Flip Diaper System is a flexible, hybrid cloth diapering system that provides insert options for every occasion. The one-size cover and three choices in absorbent inserts make diapering your baby less expensive, easy and perfect for where-ever, when-ever. When we created the Flip Diapering System, we wanted to create a flexible diapering system that was a little less expensive than bumGenius while providing options to a parent willing to tolerate a two-piece system. Stay dry, organic & disposable inserts became part of that system to properly address the needs of the different types of families we work with. Some really want the stay-dry fabric. Others strongly prefer organics. And really, most (not all) people use disposable diapers at some point with their baby. The disposable inserts take care of those times in life when you really just need a throwaway option.
Can I use these inserts inside bumGenius 4.0 One-Size Cloth Diapers?
To use in our bumGenius diapers… you can either lay the insert on top of the suedecloth or use it in the pocket. You might consider combining a disposable insert with a reusable insert as a less-bulky overnight diapering solution .
Will these scrunch up in the cover?
Yup! All inserts (including cloth) will scrunch up between your baby’s legs. You want that to happen. Imagine walking around with a 2×4″ board in your jeans… that’s what your baby feels like if the insert doesn’t mold between their legs.
Will these inserts shift around inside the cover?
A disposable insert is going to have less bulk than your cloth inserts. The cover is designed to hold these in place. When using a disposable insert, you will need to shorten …the rise of your diaper cover by one snap setting and be sure that the cover is fastened securely to your baby. This provides a super trim fit and keeps the insert next to your baby’s skin. To avoid issues with allergies, we do not put anything sticky on our inserts.
Will poop get on my cover? It might. As most experienced cloth diapering parents and business owners will tell you, there are absolutely no guarantees that any insert, disposable or not, is going to keep poop off of your cover.
Can I flush these inserts?
Did you know that the test for flushability just involves fitting something through a certain pipe size? Please don’t flush these. I could tell you to rip them up, swish them up and flush them down the toilet, but I just don’t feel right about doing that when most municipal water supplies just aren’t set up to handle what that means.
I have refrained from making claims about biodegradability because the FTC considers biodegradable claims deceptive unless there is a very good reason to assume that MOST consumers will actually dispose of a product in a manner that will allow it to biodegrade. A quote from their Green Guides (emphasis mine):
An unqualified claim that a product or package is degradable, biodegradable or photodegradable should be substantiated by competent and reliable scientific evidence that the entire product or package will completely break down and return to nature, i.e., decompose into elements found in nature within a reasonably short period of time after customary disposal.

Do I love them?
Yes!! The product in this shipment is what I have personally used and tested with our daughter… I really hope you love them as much as I do.
Kindest regards,
Jenn

so…I have been a gdiapers user since my oldest was little (she is now almost 4). I now use them on my younger baby and was excited when I saw the flip system and love the cover that I have. I was unsure whether or not the disposable inserts (gdiapers or flips) would work in an econobum, but if they will work in them, I may just have to try an econobum cover too! Thanks so much for coming out with the flip system. It is wonderful to have covers in such cute colors that are more affordable than the gdiapers and have the great bumgenius quality and name behind them!
to Little Miss “E”…
gDiaper inserts are wider, so the new insert will be comparable I’ve used both and I must say I adore the inserts with a Flip or Econobum cover. They’re so trim…these could easily lure gDiaper users over since they’re so much more cost-effective.
My readers have been waiting for these…okay I’ve been waiting for them more!
I am super excited about this, but I am curious to see a side by side comparison with the g-diapers disposable inserts. Are there specific pro and cons to each brand or are they interchangeable in each system? Thanks!
I already love the original Flip disposable inserts; this new version seems wonderful for our next trip. 🙂
For explosive poo: spray it off into the toilet before disposing the insert
For solid poo: it should roll off into the toilet quite easily
Thanks for being so honest about the flushability and keeping poo off cover. I appreciate it!
How do most people dispose of the inserts? Pee inserts into the regular garbage are fine, but is putting a pooped insert into a plastic bag and then into the plastic garbage bag counter-intuitive? Thanks for any ideas here.
I’ll have to give them a try! Disposable inserts are our go-tos when we’re out and about.
