I pulled off a huge surprise when I bought my husband a guitar for Christmas. we had to bring it to my parents house out of town and he carried the package, so we had to wrap it creatively so it didn’t feel like a guitar (it had no case). Then we convinced him it was a fragile wall decoration his parents bought mine. Imagine his surprise when he found out it was for him!
Without a doubt, the best surprise I ever received was my engagement ring when my husband proposed! I was shocked-I walked across the stage to graduate from college and he was on bended knee when I got off the stage! The professional photographer taking pictures with our diplomas got some great pictures of the moment I realized he was proposing!
for my birthday (last September) someone I just recently met online, about a month before surprised me and sent me a ipad mini!!! brand new from the apple store to my house! I never once mentioned a ipad mini to him, either!

The best surprise I was ever given was my dog when I was 12 years old. Our family dog was really old and I had wanted a puppy FOREVER! He was my best friend and sometimes I swear the only reason I made it through high school alive was because of his constant love and companionship!

For my son’s first Christmas my husband gave me the most adorable necklace with our son’s name and birthstone on it. It was shaped like feet.
Best surprise was finding out the sex of my first child. My husband had to work so his Mom came with me to the doctor’s office. She swore it would definitely be a boy, and she was right! I was so nervous and excited at the same time. Now at 13 months old, he is 100% boy… full of energy, grins at the ladies in the grocery store, and loves to make silly faces!

The best surprise I have ever received was in 2011 when my boyfriend at the time ,who is activy duty military , surprised me by taking a month of leave to come see me for Christmas. To top it off, on his last day home he proposed on a ski hill after pretending he broke his hand. He had 50 of our friends and family there to witness the whole thing 🙂 We have now been happily married for over a year and had our first baby 3 months ago 🙂 That was such a wonderful month os surprises!

The best surprise I’ve ever gotten was finding out that we’re having twins girls (due in May)! My husband and I already have 4 other children (ages 10, 9, 5, and 3) and we suffered a loss this past April. My mother in law, who is a fantastic knitter, picked up her knitting needles after something like a 20 year knitting hiatus just to make a gift for my baby. She made a gorgeous matching set of hat, booties, cardigan, and blanket appliqued with butterflies. It will be treasured for a long time!

I think one of my favorite surprises I have received has been from my husband. He occasionally will do something unexpected like let me sleep in and have the dishes all washed before I get up. The best surprise I ever received was meeting my third son. They told me at my 20 well ultrasound that he would not survive past about 24 week’s. 24 week’s came and went, then 30, then 40. We met him 4 days after he was 40weeks and got to spend a fabulous 3 hours with him before he passed and became my Angel baby. Ok so grateful I didn’t listen to the doctors and abort him because they said he would pass in utero. I never would have met him. He surpassed all expectations and became my greatest surprise.

I’m not a fan of surprises but in college, my long time high school friend sent me some yellow roses on a particularly yucky Valentine’s day. That friend is now my husband of almost 10 years!

The best surprise I’ve ever received? Hmm..Tha’ts a hard one. Gosh where do I start. With my husband being in the Marine Corps and always coming and going on deployments and finding out we were pregnant, there are many surprises that I cherish.
The first surprise that I cherish and will always remember was from the first time my husband deployed. He was supposed to come home the day after he actually came home. He had coordinated with a friend to pick him up from the airport the night before he was due home. He had my friend make up a crazy story as to why she couldn’t stay in her barracks but instead spend the night at my house. As I was waiting up for her to come over the night grew long, and as she is younger than I and much like a sister, It was nearing past midnight when I hear the doorbell ring. Why I sleepily asked myself why she’d be ringing the doorbell when she has a key. I let it ring twice before I got up off the couch. When I opened my door in my sleepy haze, I barely noticed my husband off to the side!!! When I did, I jumped up, elated and flustered as I didn’t look as well put together as I’d had liked for him to see me when he got home. That surprise gave me a bruise on my knee cause as I was jumping up to wrap my legs around him I banged my knee on the doorknob! That is a surprise that I will always remember, probably tell every child of ours and furthermore to our grandchildren!
Surprise birthday parties mean a lot to me, as I never know when my husband will be home for one. This is a very rare occasion. In the 8 years we’ve been together, he’s only been home for 3.
When we found out that we were pregnant, after years of trying and many treatments later, I was in shock! I almost threw away the darn pregnancy test as it took forever for line number two to show up. It appeared negative for what seemed like forever! Talk about not knowing how to contain excitement when I realized there were two lines! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Last and but not least, SURPRISE! Baby Pj was born two weeks early on MEMORIAL DAY! Can you think of a better day for a Marine Corps Baby to be born?!
Needless to say, we have a lot of surprises to be thankful for. We are a truly blessed family and even moreso blessed to have cottonbabies as part of our family, making the life of or little guy’s bum, AMAZING! <<–talk about being dorky! 😉

Best suprise was getting my first college scholarship. It kind of gave my path a direction.
The best surprise I’ve ever received was on my 24th birthday. I wanted a puppy so bad but my now husband planned to propose so my parents went in on it and adopted a puppy a week before my birthday… I got home from work the morning of my birthday and was surprised with the puppy! Then completely blown away when he pulled out a ring! That was 3 years ago and now we have beautiful daughter and our dog loves her so much! It was definitely the best surprise of my life!
I love giving surprises and I believe the best one was to my husband on our honeymoon. We were honeymooning in door county and I surprised him by stopping in green bay on our way. We are both big packers fans and I pulled up to the stadium and handed him tickets to the packer vicking game that I previously purchased for the game that day. He was so excited and it was actually or first packer game that we went to!

Well my husband goes in spurts on gift giving…completely not getting me anything for Christmas then will do something special like throw me a birthday party and get a cake. One of the funniest most surprising was when he put a picture of a longhorn cow in an envelope and gave it to me for my birthday (April) and explained that that spring after our friends’ longhorn cows had calved that I could pick out a calf to pick up in the fall after weaning time. We are cattle ranchers but don’t raise a breed that has wild markings so I always wanted a longhorn type of cow. Regardless I was really shocked at his planning and we still have her, she is a herd marker for sure since she sticks out like a sore thumb with her wild black and white splotches. Her name is Wild Child and she certainly has a feisty personality!
Both of my kiddos have been diapered in one size BumGenius cloth diapers. I love them so much it might be an addiction. 🙂
one valentine’s day while we were in college my husband had to be at school and work all day. i had the day off so i spent the whole day making 3 different types of cookies for him. (this was before we had a stand mixer or dishwasher so it was a bit of effort!) he was definitely surprised and had cookies for days!

I had a terrible day so he suggested we have a picnic after work which he included all of my favorite foods then we walked around and he let me talk for almost two hours. My husband bought me my very first pair of diamond stud earrings. They were pretty small but I loved them and wore them every day.
2 years later I needed to have them cleaned and inspected so I dropped them off at the jeweler.
I picked them up 2 days later and told the clerk they have me someone else’s because they were twice the size.

I wasn’t going to be home when he was off work, so I left a gift bag with the positive tests, a baby Bible, newborn onesie, and a kids song CD with a card that said, “I’m positive you’re going to be a great dad!” He called me ecstatic when he saw it. My best surprise was finding out I was pregnant with my now 5 year old. He was conceived on my husbands R&R break from Iraq. I went to the doctor thinking I had a UTI. They ended up doing a blood test because the urine was inconclusive (no UTI at all) and the levels were very low, it was probably the first day the pregnancy could even be detected. The hardest part was waiting for my husband to call so I could tell him!

The best surprise I’ve ever given was a boat to my husband! He was deployed to Iraq and I knew he wanted a boat for fishing. I kept telling him I had no idea what to look for and couldn’t buy him one. Little did he know I bought one right before he came home! We parked it on my friends lawn and made an excuse to go over there a couple days after he came home. I put a huge sign on it and he was completely surprised! The look on his face was priceless!
The best surprise I ever received was from God. It was my firstborn daughter, Chana. My Husband and I had been actively trying NOT to get pregnant and had been married only 2 months when we got pregnant. SURPRISE!! But her life has been an amazing blessing…and SHE is my favorite surprise 🙂

Let me just say: I usually HATE surprises and I am very hard to catch by surprise..
But the best/most amazing surprise I have ever gotten is when my mom flew out my photographer friend 1200 miles just to do our newborn photo shoot! I don’t know how they kept it a secret for me.. but my entire family and a handful of friends all knew!! I was completely taken aback when she rang my doorbell with gear in hand and her photographs were simply stunning!!

We found out my husband was being deployed one week after our wedding. He left in May 2007 for a 12-month tour in Iraq. I spent that Christmas with my parents. I had a gift from “Santa” under the tree, and when I opened it, there were several framed pictures of my husband in Iraq, showing me around the base, and a few with a little fake Christmas tree and him wearing a Santa hat. He had mailed a disposable camera to my mom so she could get the pictures developed and framed as a gift for me, since we couldn’t be together. It wasn’t a lot, but it meant so much to me and made the holidays a little easier. And all of those pictures have their own shelf by our fireplace in our home now.

My boyfriend of 9 months took me to a nature reserve 20 minutes from my parents house and, after asking my father that morning, proposed…here’s the surprising part..he had never said, “I love you” or even kissed me. So, when he pulled out a list of 42 things that he “liked”about me, I discreetly rolled my eyes, but listened. As he was nearing the end of this list, his palms began sweating and he seemed out of sorts. His last reason for “liking”me was that he had realized how much he”loved”me. After 7 years of trying to conceive the biggest surprise was finding out I was pregnant. We talked about going to see a Fertility Specialist but never made it. I was so scared and beyond excited when learning about my pregnancy. Flash forward 3 years later and we now have 2 healthy girls. Life is a sweet surprise but most of all blessing.
My husband (then boyfriend) took me on a hike up to a gorgeous lake. When we arrived, we sat down to eat lunch. He said, “Let’s put the camera on the tripod and take a picture.” He set up the camera, ran back toward me, then got on one knee to propose as the camera flashed. So I have a picture of his proposal. The best surprise I have ever received is when two long time friends drove all the way from Ohio to Charleston , SC to visit me! It was a complete surprise and they had no idea where I lived and even slept in their van the first night! I had not seen them in a while and it was a perfect reunion.

I hate being surprised, not actually the surprise itself, I just like to feel prepared. So for me the best surprises are anticipated ones. My husband and I tried for about 6 months to get pregnant with our son (I know that others struggle for much longer, but we got pregnant our first time so just never anticipated fertility being an issue) we also were applying to be foster parents. In the same week we were denied for foster care due to a clerical error and I took two false negative pregnancy tests! I was so hurt. It has always been our deepest desire to raise a family and I felt like at every corner doors were being closed. No one wanted me to have a baby!!! Three weeks after my missed period I finally decided to try again. POSITIVE! Baby boy is expected June 1, 2014.
