Tuesday Giveaway: All Wrapped Up
February 28, 2012 6:07 pm | by

I’ll be the first to admit, I love to swaddle a newborn. Swaddling is a technique where you wrap a baby tightly in a large blanket to secure their arms and legs. It can help soothe the baby, as many believe it reminds infants of the womb. I didn’t do it very often with my oldest son, but with my other children, I swaddled them for as long as I possibly could. I know not every child likes to be swaddled, but mine did. It was a lifesaver for our whole family. It helped our babes fall asleep and stay asleep longer than when they weren’t swaddled.

For today’s giveaway, we are offering the opportunity to win a free swaddling blanket (even without a $75 purchase). And since we love seeing babies wrapped in cloth, we’re throwing in your choice of a bumGenius 4.0 or Freetime cloth diaper too!

To enter, check out the widget below and tell us your best sleeping baby tip. Do you have a certain bedtime routine that helps calm your little one and get them ready for bed? Are you an expert at changing a diaper on a sleeping baby? Tell us below for your chance to win one of our great Cotton Babies prize packs. Don’t forget, there are bonus entries available if you share our contest with your friends via your favorite social media sites.

I just had my 3rd baby last week and for sure the best thing to do is having their belly’s full and swaddling!

I thought babies were supposed to sleep all the time. Once I had my son I realized it’s a lot of hard work. I spend most of my day trying to get my 4 month old to nap!

I am never sure whether I am supposed to answer the question again down here in the comments section or if I should just answer where I am prompted on the widget, but since I would loooooove to win this giveaway, I am going to just paste my answer here too.

My best tip for a sleeping baby is that it is ALL about TIMING. Watch baby for tired cues and put baby down for naps or bedtime when baby is winding down and on his way to being tired, but not overly tired.

Minky sheets, or a minky blanket tucked in all around and under the mattress if you can’t find them in sheet form. Keeps the bed the same temperature all over. No cold spots for baby to roll over onto, plus who doesn’t want to sleep on minky? We also use a fan in whatever room the baby is sleeping for white noise. Works wonders on not having to constantly tell our older child to shush because the baby is sleeping.

We follow the same routine every night. Around 8:00, we change diaper, feed, swaddle, and lie in the bassinet. It works like a charm because my son knows what to expect every night. He even falls asleep on his own without crying. I got a lot of tips from the book The Baby Whisperer.

I used to sing to my daughter and then I shush her to sleep. I think we got this tip from “Happiest Baby On The Block.” When it comes to changing diapers on a sleeping baby… we used to be able to do it without a wiper warmer but then we moved to a colder place and the “cold touch” would wake up the baby. If you live in a place that is cold or your house is kept cool in the summer make sure you buy a warmer. I didn’t believe the temperature change would “shock” the baby.
