Tuesday Giveaway: Try it, you’ll like it!
March 13, 2012 2:58 pm | by

Last night, during our weekly Twitter chat, someone asked, “What is one thing you would tell a mama who wants to try cloth diapers?” My immediate response to a question like this is always, “Just try it!”

When I first researched cloth diapers, I was completely overwhelmed at all the styles, options and the extra laundry steps. What I realized, once I gave it a whirl, was that it was that the laundry wasn’t too difficult (really only an extra wash cycle) and that the diapers aren’t as complex as I imagined. That’s probably why I just love the idea of Change 3 Things. I like to encourage moms to start with a few cloth diapers, that way you don’t feel it’s an all or nothing situation. Many families build their stash slowly, adding a few diapers as they are able to budget for them. For me, it was easier to make $20 or $30 worth of cloth diapers work, rather than feel the pressure of a stash that cost ten times that with nothing to fall back on.

For someone who is looking to convert their child from disposables to cloth, I recommend the Econobum Trial Pack. Technically, I recommend two, so they can wash every other day. Each Econobum trial pack includes one cover and three prefolds, which is a great place to start in my opinion. Two sets is about the price of one of those giant boxes of disposables, so it’s easy to work into most budgets.

Once a family finds they have the hang of a cloth diaper routine (which usually only takes a week or two), then I suggest branching out, if their budget allows, to find their favorite style of cloth diaper. Econobum are great workhorse diapers, so they keep going strong as you build your perfect stash. They even make great “extra” diapers.

As spring and summer approach, it’s great to have an Econobum trial pack handy for unexpected accidents that always seem to happen when you didn’t bother restocking your diaper bag. I packed one of those free hospital goody/diaper bags with a few spare diapers and clothes and left it in the trunk of the car. I won’t confess how many times I had to hit the trunk diaper bag in a panic, but with four kids, I’m sure you can guess.

For those of you who are beginning to think I’m crazy, or only rave about Econobum because I’m a Cotton Babies employee, check out Sara’s Econobum review:

“I bought these to use when my pocket diapers where in the wash and I find myself using them all the time. I use the with a snappi on my almost 2 year old and on my 3 month old. They are super absorbant and wash really well.”

This week’s giveaway prize pack includes two Econobum Trial Packs (in your choice of color trim). It’s a great way to start cloth diapering if you haven’t made the leap yet. If you already cloth diaper, these are great diapers to extend your stash or give one to a friend who wants to try cloth diapers.

I love that I’m not throwing things away. Especially when the little guy poops right after I change the diaper or I need to change it sooner, I don’t feel like I’m just throwing money in the trash.

My favorite thing about cloth diapering is how great it makes me feel. I am very proud of myself and my husband for taking a chance to go against the norm in our circle and do what is best for our son. We got our share of strange looks and doubt but we have been cloth diapering for 5 months and will never go back.

I love how they make it her skin so happy. She has no redness in her diaper area at all. And, I like how we don’t have to go to a store to buy what she needs, we just do some laundry and we are all set. Cloth diapers are awesome (and at least as easy as disposables).

Got to admit, it’s the cuteness factor of a fluffy rump!

WHY did I never think to pack some extra diapers & clothes in the car? You’re a freaking genius.

I love that I don’t have to run out to the store when I’m running low on diapers. I just have to do laundry.

another thing, though…I’ve noticed that disposables smell. BAD.

When I change a disposable, I feel like I am dealing with garbage. When I change a cloth diaper, I feel like I am clothing my baby. The task is the same, but my feelings about it are completely different.

I love not spending money on disposables. Plus, I love putting my girls in matching diapers (even if it only lasts a couple hours). I love saving money, I love being chemical free on a perfect baby, and I love feeling better than people who use disposable!

What’s not to love?!?! Saving money is a huge factor especially in this economy. Knowing that I am helping to save the planet for the future of my children, and grandchildren is also huge. And as an added bonus…they are adorable, easy to use and easy to clean. Very little effort with such enormous benefits!

My favorite thing: they’re always there! I never have to run to the store for diapers, because they’re right here!

The cute diapers and saving money aspect! Big boxes of diapers are around $40 each and they all just get thrown away. This way, you have cute diapers to use over and over and then re-sell!

We LOVE our cloth diapers because they helped us clear up a horrible rash on our infant! She was allergic to disposables! Plus, they save us a ton of $, they keep disposables out of the landfill and I’m not putting chemicals on our baby’s skin! We LOVE our Flip diapers!

My favorite thing about cloth diapering is that I’m teaching my little girl at a very young age to be money and environmentally conscious!

what isn’t great about them. they are reusable not just as a diaper but awesome for spit up. bibs, drying your hands… almost anything that needs to be absorbed quickly they are awesome for. They keep my baby more healthy without that funky diaper geling disposables do. for my girl I never have to buy bloomers just use the wrap that matches her dress. also saving the earth a million disposables less each year. They are actually simpler to me than cloth and i don’t have poop chilling in my garbage can it all gets sprayed into the toilet and flushed.all around amazing!!

If I win, I would give them away as baby shower gifts. I personally use Econobum and love them. (Even if they don’t choose to cloth diaper, they can use the cover as a swim diaper and the prefolds for burp cloths.) I think my favorite thing about using cloth is not having to go down the diaper aisle at the grocery store (and not having to worry about running out of diapers if I don’t make it to the store…I have 4 kids, 2 in diapers, and my day rarely goes as I plan…but I can always throw a load of dipes in the washer, even if I can’t always make it to the store!)

My favorite thing so far is not having to continue to buy diapers. I’d much rather do an extra load of laundry than go to the store. We just started cloth diapers with our month-old newborn and we love it.

I am fairly new to cloth diapering! I have a 9 yr old with whom I used disposables and had I known then what I know now I would have definitely used cloth then! We are new parents of a 11 mo old and we have only been using cloth diapers for less than a month. However, we will never use disposables again! We are using BumGenuis 4.0s and they are great and so easy! We haven’t had any leaks, diaper rashes, or problems! I love that we arent using diapers that are full of chemicals, helping the environment, and that they are so cute! And ou can coordinate the diapers to match their clothes!

There are so many things I love about cloth diapers that it’s hard to pick just one! I love that I save a ton of money! I love that I protect my baby’s skin from chemicals. I love that it’s great for the environment. I love that they’re so easy to use. And I LOVE how cute they are!!!

My favorite thing is not spending all that money on disposables and not having to worry about a late night store run because we ran out of diapers. If we got really desperate we could fold up an old tshirt in a rinsed out diaper cover. (We did this when we got behind on diaper laundry because of the flu…it worked great!) You can’t do that with ‘sposies!

I absolutely love how cloth diapers are reuseable, better for babys bottom, great for the planet, fun to wash and fun to use! Also fun to make if you make them yourself!

There are so many things to love about cloth but honestly, first and foremost I love that I get to have diapers be fun colors/patterns instead of just plain white. Makes the idea of changing a dirty diaper more appealing because every change can mean a new look! 🙂

My favorite thing is how much better they are for my daughter! I love that she doesn’t have all those chemicals up against her skin. Helping to save the planet, saving money, and her looking extra cute don’t hurt either 🙂
