What are you most thankful for?

What are you most thankful for?

I love when the weather gets a chill in the air as it turns to autumn. I get so excited about Thanksgiving coming up. I look forward to spending time with my family and planning the menu for weeks ahead of time.

After Thanksgiving, I love gearing up for all the holiday magic. I enjoy filling our calendar with fun events that make memories that will last a lifetime. No pressure, though, right? Ha. I try to fill these months will all of the love languages.

Words of Affirmation – By offering everyone a cheerful, sincere “Happy Holidays!”, I try to spread happiness. Especially around this time of year when my daughter gets a lot of threats about being on her best behavior or going on the Naughty List, I emphasize her good behavior by thanking her and letting her know that it has been noticed.

Gift – I love to shop and find the perfect gifts for everyone on my list.

Acts of Service – Giving to others, decorating the house so my husband doesn’t have to, etc.

Quality Time – The fun events mean so much to me. I love looking at Christmas lights, decorating gingerbread houses and everything else.

Physical Touch – I am a snuggler, so I love getting cozy on the couch under a blanket to watch our (my) favorite Christmas movies.

What I’m Thankful For

All of these love languages don’t mean anything unless you have someone to share them with. At Thanksgiving, it’s important to reflect on the positive things in our own lives and all that we have to be thankful for.

Family

I am most thankful for my family – my husband and children. I won’t gush over them too much, but I have a great partner and my kids are pretty awesome. I also get to spend time with my parents, in-laws, and siblings. We’ve got a pretty solid tribe.

Health.

Besides a few colds and ear infections, I am incredibly thankful for good health. The past 6 months, I have been making changes to feed my family more wholesome food and skip the carry-out menu.

Career.

My husband and I are incredibly fortunate to both have jobs we love and jobs that make us feel valued. Since we all spend so much time working, I think it’s so important to have a job that feeds your emotional and physical bank account.

Home.

We have a roof over our heads and it’s filled with love. It meets our needs and we’ve made it our own.

Friends.

I have a wonderful group of supportive friends. As life gets more hectic (read: kids), it’s hard to see each other as often as we once did, but we have so much fun when we get together. I love drama-free friends who can pick up right where we left off, even if it has been a few months. Plus, it’s great to have some mom friends who can relate to the chaos that is raising toddlers.

I know this list isn’t groundbreaking by any means, but it’s the basic things in life that mean that mean the most to me. Without my family, I’m alone. Our health allows us to enjoy each other to the fullest extent. Our careers afford us the home we live in together. And our friends enrich our lives. All of these things combined bring me happiness, and for that, I am truly thankful.

Take a minute to reflect on what makes you happy. What are you truly most thankful for?
