Cloth Diaper Basics: What is a Wet Bag?
January 18, 2015 5:58 pm | by

bum-genius-wet-bagThere are a ton of cloth diaper accessories out there, so how do you decide what you really need?

Each accessory has a very specific purpose. Some may have a very narrow focus while others don’t. However, wet bags are an accessory that falls into that category of “must-haves,” especially if you plan to use cloth diapers on the go.

What’s a wet bag?

A wet bag is an easy way to store your dirty cloth diapers when you’re away from home. It is a reusable, waterproof and leak resistant bag that zips shut to help keep odors (and liquids) from escaping. Wet bags can typically hold around 3-15 cloth diapers, depending on the size you choose. And because of the waterproof fabric, you can also use wet bags to transport wet clothes, swim suits, and more.

Why do I need a wet bag?

Picture this: You’re out and about, and your little one does a #2 in your favorite hard-to-find cloth diaper. You have to change your baby and when you do, what do you do with the soiled diaper? Do you a. Put it in a grocery bag that could easily be mistaken for garbage, increasing your chance of throwing away that HTF diaper? (Yes, we’ve seen this happen) b. Stick that HTF diaper in a plastic bag that has to be discarded after use, which isn’t very environmentally friendly? c. Toss that dirty diaper into your reusable wet bag, zip it shut, and place it in your diaper bag then go about your day?

If you said C, you’re right. Putting a dirty cloth diaper in a wet bag is the safest and most-efficient way to keep track of dirty diapers when you’re away from home.

Benefits of Wet Bags

Wet bags have a variety of benefits, but the biggest is convenience. Whether you’re cloth diapering your kid at daycare or running a simple errand, you will always have a way to store your diapers worry-free. Plus, wet bags are super cute!

Different Types

Like cloth diapers, wet bags are available in many different options. Some have unique shapes and handles to make for easier carrying and storing. Others have a drawstring or a zipper closure. Some are tall while others are mini, but either way, the differences go on and on.
