Every snow day we have grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch…then if weather permits we go outside for snowmen and snowforts, but if its too windy we stay in and play board games and do puzzles.
it snows like once in a million years here. when it does — it’s snowmen, snowball fights, snow cream, sledding, anything snow snow snow! plus my husband gets to stay home (he’s a teacher)!
I love to iceskate!
Here in FL we don’t have snow days but we get a lot of rain in the summer. We love to play board games, read books and do art projects.
My son still has a few days until he makes his appearance, but I’m looking forward to snowball fights, sledding, and building snow forts with him in a couple years.
reading and hot chocolate plus games on the wii and wii fit to keep us from going stir crazy!
My favorite thing to do on a rainy day is curl up with a good book and a have a fire going. So cozy. Reminds me of days just like that at my Grandmothers house when I was younger. I loved it!
Emailjunky at Mac.com
My 3 year old & I played dominoes (Toy Story dominoes) this morning. And after he played in the snow with Nana we cuddled under a blanket and sipped on some hot cocoa!
When we have “inside” days, my boys love to have a pajama day. We’ll close the curtains, pop popcorn and watch a movie together. They call the dark room our feeder (theater) LOL!
For rainy days, it’s always been movie, candles and letter writing. For snow with kiddos they like to play in the snow and sled in our backyard while I make hot chocolate.
Also a military family stationed in west Texas. When we used to have snow days back when we lived in Missouri we would shovel the drive way, and the porch, and the back porch (my daughter thinks its fun..lol)We would then head inside for so many games of Candyland and then tons of Disney movies!
Since we are a military family currently stationed in so cal, we haven’t had a snow day in at least 5 yrs! We just took the kids to big bear to show them snow for the first time. Watching my almost 4 yr old and almost 2 yr old see the cold white fluff for the first time was amazing! So, on our snow day we built a snow man, had snowball fights and just enjoyed the beauty of it all! They absolutely loved it….and so did we. Hopefully we can go back again, bc 1 day in the snow was definitely not enough! I love where the Marine corp brought us, but really miss the snow 😉
Baking cookies is always a favorite of mine!
On snow days, my son would spend all day outside if I let him! I like to stay inside and warm. Have a relaxing day, doing whatever we feel like it. There’s something about days when there is absolutely nothing you have to go do. Oh and hot chocolate is a must!
jessica at 4wwr dot com
We love to make a big, hot breakfast and then play outside — sledding, build a snowman, etc. Plus some hot cocoa when you get back inside the house. 🙂
Snow days are Stay in Pajamas all day! If things are clear enough, we will all bundle up and go sledding (aka 45 min to get out the door for 20 min of “fun” 🙂 We are looking at a good one tomorrow in Boston…Yippie!
We love sitting by the fire and reading…if only we hadn’t run out of firewood already this winter!
i love to make cookies! we made cutouts and frosted them!! too fun!! and snuggling up and watching our favorite film/tv shows…right now it’s Little House on the Prairie!
We don’t get snow! LOL On cold rainy days, we love to drink hot chocolate and vegetate in front of the TV. I know so not healthy but I love every minute of it!
I’m a big reader & now so are my kids, so when it rains or snows we read a lot! My kids are too small for playing out in it for a long time but we did take our oldest (she’s 2) out for a few minutes & she loved it…plus she loves the view from our 2nd story apt windows. When I closed her curtains for naptime she said “night night, snow.” 🙂
We get rain, not snow. If it’s a warm rain, we go out to jump in the puddles – if it’s cold, we snuggle together on the couch and read, or bake cookies. My boys are almost 4 and 2, and have never seen snow – something I hope to change within the next year or two. Thanks for the giveaway!

We have been doing a LOT of reading and coloring. My brother has taken my kids outside in the ergo and played in the snow, they have really loved that!!
Well, my 6 weeker’s favorite activity is still nursing, pooping and sleeping (in that order). And while she catches some sleep I like to find new craft/DIY blogs! They’re addicting!
we live in texas so it doesn’t happen that much, but we sometimes play in the garage and then run around the house and make tents. also lots of snuggle time when it is cold!
We spent the morning watching movies and cuddling. Made some chili from veggies we canned from our garden. While the chili was cooking we put DS in his Ergo and went on a walk in our winter wonderland. DS just got out of the tub and is nursing himself to sleep. 🙂

We had a couple of snow days here, and my 1 year old liked going out and playing in it. She loved for me to hand her snowballs so she could throw them. After we played, we came inside and cuddled to warm up. 🙂
Getting dressed for fifteen minutes to go outside for five, then fifteen minutes of getting coats and boots off and slippers on, with slipper and blanket snuggle time to follow!
puzzles, trains, books, cooking. 🙂 we rarely get snow days in NC (we did today though!), and more often get hurricane days, in which case it’s usually playing cards, watching the wind and waiting for the power to go out.
We play in the snow! Snowmen, shoveling, snow forts. My 6 and 2 year old had a blast! Then baking cookies in the afternoon.
Here in NC we are now on our 3rd snowday and we spent it playing in the snow, (my 10month old does not like it) We drink hot chocolate and snugle, watch movies (play) school, just play lazy and watch the snow fall
Play imagination games…today we went for a walk in the jungle with my 2 year old leading the way, he packed his case and took us into the elevator (closet) to different floors in search of the jungle animals-was fascinating seeing how his little imagination is developing.

I love snow days! We usually shovel together- or I shovel and the kids play- and then cuddle up with a good movie and hot cocoa!
We love to snuggle in and read some books! My son is eight months old and loves books….even if he usually likes to chew them as much as he likes me to read them to him 🙂
we “paint” on the snow!! just mix up some water and food coloring in a squirt bottle and go town! my 4 year old LOVES it!
On snow days I love listening to music, drinking cocoa and then taking a nap on the couch with my daughter 🙂
When we get a lot of snow we bring it inside! No, really! I want my kiddos to be able to play in the snow minus the cold cold weather, so I go out and fill up some bowls of snow and we play with it on the kitchen floor. Yes, it makes a mess, but it’s just water- easy enough to mop up with a towel!
We don’t get snow, but plenty of rain! If we have a rainy weekend day we like to stay in our jammies as long as possible, if not the whole day! We will often dance to the Wii Dance2 and break out the blocks and make a city for the boys’ cars. One thing the boys love is popcorn and hot cocoa. We love ending the day with a family movie with the popcorn and cocoa (with marshmallows!!) As long as we are together, we are happy 🙂
sunshineluvmail-misc @ yahoo.com
Hopefully the snow will be a bit wetter tomorrow so we can make a snowman!!
We take out all the blankets, pillows and get as many chairs as we can and turn our living room into a fort. Then we slay dragons and jump over rivers of hot lava. Then we sit down and read a good book and have some hot chocolate. take a nap and then head on outside to make some snow angels!
Love snow days! My husband works nights and is home during the day while I’m at work. Snow days allow us to have some much needed family time 🙂 We stay in our pj’s, start a fire and snuggle with our 3 1/2 month old baby girl, Adele (in her cloth diaper, of course!)
While we don’t get snow in FL, we do get alot of rain…Our favorite rainy day activity is going to the local aquarium. Jack loves seeing all the fishes and is fascinated by them!
We love playing in the snow when we get it!!! In tx we even shout for snow flurries and the kids all go out and try to catch flurries on their tongues!!! Our 2 yr old and 8 month old don’t quite have the hang of it all yet!!! 😉
On a snowday, we bundle up our 16 month old and take her on a sled ride/walk around the neighborhood. Then we come in and have some warm treats and relax by the fireplace! Love winters in Maine!
Sleep in, stay in our jammies and eat whatever we want! Take lots of cat naps & cuddle up with movies to watch. 🙂
My 19 month old has a tent rocket ship that I pull out on rainy days. It’s to big to leave out every day and when I do leave it out all the time he tends to not play with it. But it’s a big hit when I do pull it out! We also read a ton of books. He loves his books!
We spend the day making food and eating it…soup, cinnamon rolls or cookies, hot chocolate, popcorn. And we usually watch movies!
We had hot chocolate and played in the snow. Then we came inside to warm up and watched our favorite cartoons. What a fun day!
We are looking forward to a snow day tomorrow which will include lots of playing outside and then coming in to snuggle up beside the fire with a mug of hot chocolate!!!
Here in North Carolina, we sometimes even have preemptive snow days: The first flakes didn’t start falling until almost 3 pm, but school was out for the whole day! (Now we have a layer of ice–consummate Southern problem–and schools are closed tomorrow for the third day in a row!)
We have a tradition, which originated with Snow Breakfast, to share a meal with a family down the street whenever we have special weather. They came over for snowy Christmas dinner when our parents went home early because of dangerous driving, and we had yummy turkey-bean chili with them tonight. Yippee!
being a teacher, I always love a snow day. It gives me an extra day at home with my little one – there is no better way to spend the day! I also love to bundle her up and watch her walk around so stiff in the snow – it’s hysterical!
We went out and played in the snow for the first time today with our 20 month old son. He couldn’t move much because he was bundled up but he threw his first snowball and loved it. With a little brother or sister on the way this year we are looking forward to creating more snow day traditions! 🙂
No snow days for us in Florida! But on rainy days we love to stay in our jammies and just enjoy each other and relax all day. Watch movies, eat popcorn, bake cookies, play games…just hang out and spend quality time with each other.
PJs until as late as possible, ‘big breakfast’ (pancakes, eggs, etc!), playing board games, going out in the snow later in the day, and peppermint hot chocolate after!! YUM!!
Snow angels and cocoa!
Read lots of Eric carle books!
We just had our first snow day yesterday, and we did something pretty awesome: had a baby! My little girl decided to come finally! As for other activities we like to do…well I don’t like being cold and wet so we like to stay in a snuggle and drink hot chocolate.
Snowy and rainy days ALWAYS merit a good nap, and some lounging around drinking hot cocoa and watching movies!
sledding and lots of chocolaty things here! We now have ice in Charlotte, NC so no more playing outside, but it sure is fun to look at out the windows!
We will have a snow day tomorrow…my 3.5yr old will help daddy shovel, then come in for some hot chocolate. I think we’ll spend the day reading, watching a movie, making a fort and maybe bake cookies.
My daughter is almost 1 year old. We had our first big snow of the season today. So we got all bundled up and went for a walk in the snow with my husband. I wore her a our favorite carrier and we all enjoyed the fresh snow on our faces.
Being from Florida, we have a lot of rainy days, but no snow days. Since there are so many rainy days, we don’t have a lot of traditions, but we do always love to build a good blanket-and-chair fort.

I grew up in Canada where the idea of a snow day is ludicrous. Seriously, I taught junior high, and one year the temperature was -32 degrees, plus windchill, making it way colder than anyone should be out it. School was in session, and while most parents kept their kids home voluntarily, I did have 3 students show up.
So, now that I am a SAHM and can declare any day I want a snow day, I like to knit, cuddle, watch a few cartoons with the little ones and drink tea.
jennyvangy @ gmail dot com
Our last two days have been snow days. We went outside to play in it yesterday, but my little ones didn’t appreciate it! The snow was too deep for them to walk in, so it wasn’t much fun for them. So other than playing in the snow, our favorite snow day activities are making/drinking hot chocolate and cutting and painting coffee filter snowflakes!

Actually, my favourite thing to do is peek out the window and watch my husband and kids having a snowfight….love to watch him play with them!
We spend the morning sleeping in. We play games together and cartoons. If we had more snow, we would go out and play in it. We only got about an inch.
I wish we GOT snow days up here! We’re in a winter storm weather watch (with blizzard warning in full effect where our utilities provider has sent out a message that we should be stocked up on batteries and flashlights just in case we lose power), but do we get snow days? Nope. At least, not the grown ups!
Anyway, I’d love to win a diaper. :~) We’re getting close to full term (36 weeks today) and so far, we have 10 from friends!
I love snuggling up and reading on snowy days, though. Except I love reading in general, so does that even count?
Baby is due next week so I spent this snow day resting and catching up on last-minute tasks in front of the fire. As I look out the window on the beautiful winter landscape, I look forward to sharing the seasons with my new baby boy.
If you asked my kids, they would probably say that they enjoy sleeping in and sledding on snow days. As a mom, I enjoy having the extra time with them. If we can fit some got chocolate in the equation, that makes it even better!
We started the day sleeping in. I got up early and checked the cancelations, shut the blinds in my boys room, and went back to bed. I made Cinnamon rolls for a late breakfast.
In the afyernoon, I played the wii with my 7 & 4 year old while the baby napped.
We often do snow cones. When I was little we made snow ice cream.
I could really use another BG with snaps.
Our snow day included preschool activities, playing in the sink with snow from outside, and cutting up bologna with cookie cutters for lunch. Oh and washing diapers!!!
snow days were the best when I was a kid… sledding.. making a snowman.. drinking hot cocoa…
My “tip” is my recipe for hot chocolate
I heat milk… and mix with LOTS of the powder stuff and then 1 hershy’s kiss.. and some more milk cold to cool it off… top with marshmellows and enjoy!
We live in Florida, so no snow for us. But, rain puddles are fun! Then, a nice hot bath afterwards. We have gone for breaks in the rain to have my son ride his tricycle through the puddles, then dipped back in before the rain started again(again, Florida).
We don’t have snow here. We do love curling up and reading books, or watching a good movie, during rainy weather.
We don’t have many snow days in my town but we have plenty of rainy days! Sometimes i’ll watch a movie with the kiddos but their favorite rainy day activities have to be making rice krispy treats or busting out all the playdough toys and having a fun afternoon creating stuff.
It doesn’t snow here in South Texas, BUT on Rainy days my two kiddos and I like to sit on our front porch and watch the rain come down. When it is summer time that quickly turns into my 4 year old playing in the rain.
We don’t get much snow, mostly rain. When it does snow, it’s magical! We love to go out in it and take a walk then come inside for hot chocolate and a treat while we watch the flakes fall.
I enjoy snuggling with my newborn Mason! I can’t wait until he is old enough to build snowmen or sledging or a playful snow ball fight between my husband Mason and I.
I enjoy snuggling with my newborn Mason! I can’t wait until he is old enough to build snowmen or sledging or a playful snow ball fight between my husband Mason and I.
Definitely going out for a walk to enjoy the snow, then hot chocolate and blankets inside.
My daughter is perfectly happy with hot chocolate and a good book. My son enjoys playing games. The baby just wants to cuddle.
jdeemarie @ gmail.com
Play in the snow, and then drink hot chocolate! Or, for my super sensitive 4 yo son, “warm” chocolate!!
my favorite snow-day activity is to stay in and snuggle my two sweet boys!!!
If we’re suck inside, games and puzzles with some yummy soup and hot chocolate. We’re not shy of the weather so we usually spend at least some of the day playing outside. We don’t get much snow, so puddle jumping it is.
We just had a baby on Friday. Yesterday’s snow day had us cuddled together in our house, just the 3 of us.
Watching DVD’s and having some comfort food rocks any snowy day!
hot cocoa, lindt coconut white chocolate, watching my 2 month old kick around on her blanket and coo at the ceiling fan, and learning a new card game with the hubby… pretty great snow day!
We’ve had snow for 2 weeks straight now. If we called snow days inside days, we wouldn’t be able to leave the house for most of winter LOL! My elder son and I like to walk to the local coffee shop. I get a chocolate hazelnut breve. It tastes like liquid nutella with an espresso kick. He usually gets hot chocolate or occasionally an Italian soda.
we love making hot chocolate on cold snowy days, today we took it in a thermos and took our 4 year old sledding for the first time, he had a blast!
I like to put together some yummy soup recipe in the slow cooker so the house smells great all day long then snuggle up in a fuzzy blanket with a good book and a cat…until it’s time to shovel. *bleh* Then it’s back in the house, stir the soup and thank the cat for keeping the blanket warm.
We like playing indoors. Making good food and enjoying each other’s company.
My favorite snow day activity is curl up on the couch, watch movies, and take a hot bath.
Comfy pants and hot beverages! Now that my toddler is all over the place, my stay-inside snow days are transforming into play outside or go crazy days.
My favorite snow day activity is to take my husky and a sled out and go up and down the street. We also take the neighbors little boy and let him ride in the sled. Our little one is a little young to be in the sled by himself(6 months), but I get in with him and DH takes a hold of Demon and we just go all over the neighborhood!!!
Me and my little guys were snowed in today. We made a big deal out of breakfast and lunch, since the kitchen is nice and warm! My 4 year old spent most of the day in a batman costume (such a cutie!) He and I snuggled all day with my 2 month old (who was wearing his BG’s all day) and kept each other nice and toasty. I love my boys!
jenna1545 at yahoo dot com
I like sipping on hot chocolate. My daughter likes cuddling on the couch reading books or watching movies.
We like to get out and play in the snow as long as we’re all healthy. If the kiddos are sick, we like to hang out in our jammies all day, snuggle and just relax, and do fun and messy crafts. 🙂 Of course, with a 2 year old pretty much every craft is messy, but that’s part of the fun!
We love to make chili and homemade bread. Then while we’re waiting for it to be done, we play games or watch movies and drink hot chocolate.
jam1998 at q dot com
Make a living room fort out of bedsheets and cushions!
carriethegood at gmail dot com
On a snowy day I love to cuddle up and drink hot chocolate and have smores after going out to play in the snow (:
On a snow day, there is nothing more fun than making a great fort and hanging out for a while inside with provisions, maybe even some hot cocoa!
Living in the South, snow days are pretty rare! We’ve just had two in a row (yesterday & today) so we’ve been out playing in the snow as much as possible. We always make a snowman & we like to walk around and see how different everything looks covered in snow!
Ooo…if it snowed, we’d go out and play in it! But on rainy days, which we have quite often, we read stories, color, and use finger paints to liven up the day. And I drink homemade hot cocoa. 🙂
We like to build a snow man (if there’s enough snow) and enjoy hot soup and hot chocolate. And maybe a movie while the kids nap. 😉
We build a big fire in the living room fire place and drink chai tea after a long day of playing with our dogs on our farm and sledding down the hills 🙂 we are loving the snow! Laurapizza5@aol.com, Laura bentley
Love, love, love snow days. My husband thinks I’m like a little child when it comes to a “snow day”. First, the best part is opening the window shades and peeking outside at the first sight of snow at the break of dawn. Once I get our two little ones up, ages four and two we pull open the the window blinds as wide as we can in the kitchen and eat breakfast staring in awe and wonder. That is the best part of the day..just sitting there appreciating nature’s glorious treat! Before we head outside, I make cinnamon sucanat gluten free toast in the oven so once we come back in, we can warm up the toast. Since our little ones are able to romp in the snow, we bundle up as tight as we can and play until our fingers tingle. We don’t have a fireplace, so we stand by the wood stove and hold our hands as close as we can to soak up the warmth. What a day, just as I remember as a child!
I love cuddling with my little miss and reading books all day!
annaleighadams at gmail dot com
I love to NAP on a rainy day. We live down in FL so there isn’t a ton of snow days here. :D. I will be in IL next month though, so maybe we will see some then!
As a little girl, rainy days meant puddle jumping and slug collecting. Nowadays, it means a movie and a snuggle!
we like dance parties
We don’t have snow here, but our favourite activity on rainy days is to cook matzo ball soup and dance with our 7 months old and baby bump 🙂 Its nice to be inside sometimes!
I love snow days!!! Yesterday, daddy and son enjoyed a day together. Today, mommy got to go into work late. It was the best morning in a long time because it was so relaxing.
As a kid, I enjoyed playing in the snow and enjoying some yummy hot cocco. Now I have to shovel (or watch hubby do it).
abiandandy at gmail dot com
I love sitting at the window with some hot chocolate and watching the sun glisten off of the snow on the ground. Then getting all bundled up, going out and sledding in the snow or just throwing it around. Then coming back in, taking a nice warm bubble bath and reading a good book. This was my daughter’s first snow and I took her out yesterday. She wasnt really interested in it but hopefully next year we can start our own snow day ritual!
adryt86 at gmail dot com
It was my little one’s first snow day yesterday! She’s only 6 weeks old…so we watched our doggie play in it through the big glass doors, then pulled our rocking chair up close to the fire. It was SO snug and cozy!
I would love to just stay snuggled under a blanket all day and watch TV.
I love to wear my pjs, drink hot cocoa with whipped cream on top, and hang out with the family playing board games with the lights off and a few candles lit.
We never get snow days in Arizona, but on the rare days that we get rain I like warm food like soups and hot chocolate. If my kids are feeling too cabin feverish we pull out the fabric snowballs that my sister made us and have an indoor snowball fight.
princesslolly18 at hotmail dot com
We don’t have a special food but a movie is usually involved and we wear PAJAMAS all day!! 🙂
cheapnchoosy at gmail
My daugther is only 13 mo but it’s fun to take her out in the snow. She’s still not sure what to make of it:) When we get back inside we both have a mug of hot chocolate or coffee.
making a snowman, i love to crochet and hot chocolate is a must!
Well, if it snowed here (in FL), we’d be playing in it. It’s not something that we ever see unless we go north.
On rain days, we likes to snuggle up and watch movies. We also play cards, hide and go seek, and build forts. Needless to say, the boys love rain days.
I love to bundle up before going out to play for a while then head back inside and cuddle up with a hot cocoa by the fire with my knitting.
My twins are only 6 months old — and seeing and being out in snow is amazing for them! My husband and I bundled up the babies and walked around the yard and just let them look and explore the winter wonderland! Can’t wait until they are big enough to build a snowman and go sledding!!!
My baby is still 6 months so we stay inside on snowy days.. Cuddling, playing and sitting by the fire 🙂
After sleeping in (which is a must on a rainy day) I love to read a good book during naptime. Popcorn and hot chocolate are good too!
kelh80 at yahoo dot com
I didn’t see my last post, so trying again. We love to go sledding with my oldest daughter. The youngest is a newborn and hasn’t seen snow yet.
My 18 month old daughter and I love to stay in our pj’s all day, read books and build tent cities.
Ooooh! We like to light the candles that we have sitting in our fireplace (because we had to block the chimney to stop heat from escaping). It’s so pretty on a snowy day!
We love to start a fire in the fireplace and read beside it.
I have seven kiddos ranging from teens to newborn. Snow days are a BLAST around here. It’s something like a revolving door–some in, some out at any given time! My job is to keep the hot chocolate and spiced cider coming, the fire going, and read aloud as much as my voice can handle. 🙂
hschwarzen at gmail dot com
Our favorite things to do on snowy days in cuddle up on the couch, drink hot cocoa, watch a fun movie, and have a fire in the fireplace. We also like to watch the falling snow from our large back window- so magical today with the large flakes falling!
Peppermint mochas are a MUST on just about any day 🙂
I would love a lazy, stay-at-home snow day! Alas, I woke up early to beat the slow traffic on the way into the office.
If I had a snow day I’d have a couple mugs of my homemade chai tea, and play with my kids, ages 3 and 1. We’d probably do a craft or two, a game or two, and maybe watch a movie. And of course, keep the curtains open to watch the snow fall!
Instead, I’m watching the cars plow through the snow on the highway from my 2nd floor cubicle. 🙂
francescanr at hotmail dot com
My LO is 8 months, and we love to take her outside and throw snowballs- she laughs and laughs!
We’re trapped indoors today due to ice (we didn’t get any of the snow everyone south of us got, booo), we’ve been enjoying many mugs full of dark chocolate cocoa (with LOTS of marshmallows) and chili, yum! Of course with lots of sitting by the fire and snuggling.
My 5 year old LOVES to build snowmen, so that’s what we normally end up doing if we get snow.
Staying in our pajamas all day and drinking hot cocoa (with marshmallows, of course!) and reading tons of good books is the order of the day! We might even build a fort out of pillows and blankets. All is good with the world when the weather is nasty and we don’t have to go into it!
angiedkelly at gmail dot com
My 4-month and I go walking with her facing outward in the Moby Wrap. She loves looking around and the fresh air calms her. She will take a nap after we walk.
My favorite snow activity definitely has to be sledding with my kids. Plus, it gives me the opportunity to act like a kid again. Then after playing in the cold snow, we come in and fix a yummy cup of hot coco with marshmallows.
If it’s not too cold we go out and play! Then we usually watch a movie, baake some yummy treats and just hang out. We have a fun lunch and hot chocolate and tea flow all day! I love snow days & extra time with my kiddos! It’s a huge bonus when the roads are really bad and hubby takes a snow day too 🙂
My daughter is in kindergarten, and we haven’t had a “snow day” yet…but we LOVE to get all bundled up and make snow angels!
elizabethknost AT gmail DOT com
Snow days are so rare where we are that we get out and enjoy the snow as much as possible! The kids LOVE playing in the snow and snow brings the kid out in me (I grew up in various areas that snow was rare) so I love to play in it too!
We like to watch the snow out the window and the birds coming to our bird feeders. We got our little boy a sled, snowpants and boots yesterday. I’m looking forward to watching my husband and him play tonight.
mine love sledding, building snowmen, throwing snowballs and then coming in for hot chocolate and watching movies
wittlewun at aol dot com
Grilled cheese, chicken noodle soup, hot chocolate and a great movie with the kids!
ser 7632 (at) yahoo . com
Curl up with a blanket, some books, and my husband and daughter!
My 4 kids and I (ages 7, 4, 3, 6 weeks) start the day off by watching the snow fall while we eat breakfast. Then we bundle up and go out to play!! Snow angels are our favorite thing followed by sledding. Then we finish by coming inside and warming up with hot chocolate in their special gingerbread mugs. scooterbeth2000 at yahoo dot com
We would normally do hot chocolate and popcorn in front of a movie. Unfortunately we did not get a snow day up here in Iowa today. And it was my turn to shovel. So today we “played” out in the snow by shoveling. My two-year old is now the envy of the block. That kid can clear a sidewalk in no time at all!
On rainy days we must, must, must have albondigas mexican meatball soup. It is so yummy! This rainy season was the first for my son and I as a mother, so I enjoyed nursing him by the window and watching Baby Einstein dvds.
favorite snow day activity? going out into the snow! cause it happens once every 10 years here! hehehehe. OH and pictures gotta be taken when it happens!
snow? what’s that? we don’t get that way down here in the deep south. Y’all stay warm!
carlaboo11 @ yahoo.com
I like calling one of my brothers to come over and take my daughter out to play in the snow so I can get some chores done!
Also hot showers. Mmmmmm.
We are expecting a snow day tonight. My toddler is excited. He loves to make snow angels and throw his attempted snowballs at me. It is fun to watch his excitement. For indoor activity, he loves to play chef. We made a chef hat together with construction paper and he puts it on everytime we make something – like cookies. Hot chocolate is great also.
We love doing “craft station” activities in the basement, such as stickers, play-doh, or markers. My toddler loves these one-on-one activities. Hot chocolate is good too!
I have a special craft book that I pull ideas from only on snow days, so we do a craft or two and I let the kiddos pick whatever they would like for lunch…….and almost always, I am making pancakes and eggs!
We don’t get many snow days in central Texas, but when we do we build snowmen and enjoy homemade snow ice-cream! Yummy

Yesterday was our nasty snow day in Kansas, and we pretty much snuggled up with toys, books, and a liberal amount of cheesy sci-fi on Netflix. Pretty much doing anything but actual work — as my house shows for it! 😀
We did end up having to get groceries yesterday, though, and my son (not quite two) had to stomp and frolic in every snow bank. Though we couldn’t find his gloves, and he got mad when he discovered that it made his hands cold.
We don’t get many snowy days in Northern California… but we do see lots of rain. My two year old and I will do anything from make cookies to building forts. Going on nature walks if it is just a misty drizzle. We love the rain. It makes the house cozy!
This is my toddler’s first year to really experience the snow and he loves it! So far, we’ve made sure to “tomp” in the “noooo” as much as we can. I think I’ll introduce him to snow cream today – it’s a family tradition.
Baking!!!! If the roads are clear we also like to go to the nature center or library to get a little interaction with people. 😉
We love to get out and play in the snow on a snow day! Nothing better than coming in from the cold and drinking hot chocolate!
We’re such an active family that it’s nice to take a day to stay in our pj’s and watch movies.
Making and eating snow cream is hands down my favorite snow-day activity. In fact, the kids and I just each finished off a big bowl. I’m freezing even more after eating it, but it’s so worth it!!!
When it starts snowing, we bundle ourselves up and head outside to shovel the walks and play. We make snow angels, forts, tunnels, snowmen, and various different snow animals. We pull out the sand toys and the trucks and go crazy. Then when we are tired and/or cold, we head inside for warm drinks.
When naps come, I like curling under a blanket and reading.
We cleaned house today. Might as well be productive if you’re stuck inside!

I love hiking/snowshoeing, even just a simple walk around the neighborhood when it’s snowing, everything is fresh and clean smelling and usually very quiet. It’s a perfect time to reconnect with nature. I have 8 week old twins and yesterday we bundled them up and brought them out in the snow for a “very” short walk…we got 5 inches down in Georgia! jralexander14 at gmail dot com or @twinniemums on twitter
Our favorite snow day activity is making a fire and roasting marshmallows.
My little one loves to read! We could sit for hours and just read book after book after book. Today, the snow is falling here, too. She loves to sit on the couch with me, too, and look outside at the “no” (snow) falling. And then, we go back to reading. 🙂
We live in Maine so we get plenty of snow days and I love them! It’s the perfect excuse to hibernate. They usually involve a lot of reading and a dinner consisting of griled cheese and tomato soup.
Love the random giveaway’s on your blog. CottonBabies really is the best!

Melissa M. – Maine
We have just been playing, doing laundry, cooking, and working on counting. DD is 2 years old. She will not play in the snow, plus its way too cold outside. I would love to win another of our fav diapers!

We like to sit and read all the books in the house and then go to the park and swing in the rain.
We love making “edible snowflakes” from tortillas (warmed briefly to make pliable, folded into 1/4s and then cut like a paper snowflake), brush them with cooking oil, sprinkle with powdered sugar and toast in the toaster for a few minutes until crunchy.
My fave – Vegetarian Vegetable soup and either tuna or grilled cheese sammich for lunch while reading a good book. Since Gummi Bear was born, it’s actually time to play with her.
We’ve got an ice day here, so we’re all about the sorting blocks today.
We love hot chocolate with colored marshmallows and making chocolate chip cookies with sprinkles! This goes well with snuggles under a warm blanket. 🙂
We like to make hot chocolate, paint and do fun little snow day crafts 🙂
snuggle and watch movies with the kiddos! and of course some warm beverages (hot chocolate, tea, coffee). i’m a freeze baby so i like to stay inside when it’s cold and snowy 🙂
A snow day is a fun day for a photo shoot!!!
I like to pile my boys in my bed, snuggle under the covers & read some Dr Seuss & listen to them giggle.
we make homemade playdoh. we like to make cookies a lot too.
Playing in the snow then drinking some hot chocolate and baking something yummy! Oh, and snuggling up and watching a movie!
Like so many of my fellow Sept 2010 new mom cohort, I spent a snow day last winter enjoying being stuck at home with my husband and no heat or power! Only one place to be in that situation… 😉
This year, I’m parked on the couch, trying to nurse my son to sleep, and watching the snow coming down.
Mmmm, love drinking hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire while reading my little one a book 😉
diaperville at gmail dot com
Well, it snows here all the dang time. An actual snow day is pretty rare where I live. We all get up, dig ourselves out and get where we need to be. At a snail’s pace, but we do it. 🙂
If I COULD stay home for a snow day, I’d bake something, snuggle the kiddos, and probably watch Toy Story about 3.5 times. And occassionally peek out the window to see how hubby is progressing on snow blowing. 😉
badmisterkitty at hotmail dot com
We love to drink hot cocoa, snack on popcorn and M&Ms and play board games by the fire on a cold rainy day.
If we have a snow day that we can’t get out to play in the snow, I love to bring the snow inside for my two boys, 13 months apart. I bring snow in by the bucketfuls and set it up in the water table with cups, spoons, and measuring tools. The boys love playing inside with snow!
We’ve had so many snow days this year! We’ve built forts and mixed up some snow ice cream. We’ve watched movies and snuggled in blankets to read stories. Today, we’d done all of those things by noontime, and my four year old was begging for something new… so, today’s snow activity was to make Barbie igloos. Poor Barbie was a bit chilly in her bikini. Guess making Barbie parkas will be our next snow day activity!
Baking! Cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pies…anything sweet!
We love to watch the snow get higher and higher… we play in it draw pictures in it… kick it! throw it!
We also love to bake cupcakes and watch movies and take extra bubble baths. And, to wear him out, we play “No jumping on the ____” where I tell my son NOT to jump on something then he goes and jumps on it. I pretend to be horrified. He laughs. Then I tell him not to jump on something else… and he runs as fast as he can to it and jumps on it. And on and on until he tells me, “All done no jumping, mama!”
Yesterday’s snow day turned into today’s ice topped snow day. It is too dangerous to step foot outside with the babies …so today we’re doing lots of playing, eating soup and drinking hot cider. Enjoying the extra day at home!
I’ve never had a problem with snow (gotta love FL!) but when it rains I looove to cuddle up with a good book. I especially love a good thunderstorm at night.
fawnfare at gmail dot com
We’re living with my parents right now…so an ideal snow day is sipping hot chocolate and baking cinnamon buns with my mother and 3month old daughter while the “menfolk” go outside to shovel snow! When they’re finished, they’re greeting with the warm treats and movie marathons ensue!
DAS at CFAITH dot com
My LO is only 6 months old. On a cold day like today, we are at home playing and cuddling! My favorite hot drink on a day like today is a Chai Tea Latte. I’m so glad I have an expresso maker at home so I don’t have to go to Starbucks!
Yesterday was my 13 month old’s first time out in the snow! (We live in coastal NC). She had a blast, then it was inside for some snuggles and a long nap! 🙂
No little one to enjoy a snowy day with (due any day now!), but I love to curl up by the fire with a good movie and book and a yummy cup of hot chocolate!
heatherandscott030709 at gmail dot com
There are so many things I love to do on snow days but knitting or reading with a nice big cup of coffee has to be one of my favorites! Right now our baby boy, at only 2 weeks, continues on with his regularly scheduled activities regardless of weather!
Two fave snow-day activities: 1. Go out and play in the snow. 2. When too cold/tired/worn out, come in and make some fingerpaints and go crazy on the kitchen floor. (#2 becomes #1 when the snow day is too cold or icy for my very young (under age 3) kiddos to go out and enjoy the day.) 🙂
We like to pull out the play doh and make fun creatures. Board games(a thing of the past with so many video games now) is one of our favorite things to do. Candy Land is my three years olds favorite right now. He refers to it as the pretty game. :O)
My favorite snow day activity is staying in bed and drinking hot chocolate…my little one hasn’t arrived yet (due April 22, 2011) so we’ll have to see what she likes to do next year!
We play in the snow of course, then have hot chocolate. A lot of times I bake cookies for the kids.
My mom has always loved the rain. When we were kids she’d gather us in the foyer of the house (we had a double door entrance like at some office buildings) and throw open the exterior door. We’d sit and watch the rain for hours. When it rains now and my mom is visiting, my kids love going out in the rain with her. They splash in puddles, run in and out of the garage, and just have fun being silly with Grandma. It is really awesome watching them form the same rainy day joy with her that I had as a kid!
We love stroller strides. It’s -20 here and it’s fun to get together with other moms and kids.
curling up with a warm blanket, some hot soup and a good movie. getting out and playing a little, and sometimes sneaking in some good sewing time.
We love playing in the snow then making coffee and watching a movie. My 1-year-old just discovered sledding a couple weekends ago, so that is our fun on snow days now.
Right now I will just cozy up inside with my son and enjoy a cup of coffee and a book during nap time. 🙂 Once he’s older I’m sure we’ll be off on adventures in the snow!

We are on day 2 of snow day fun here in Kansas City! Yesterday I bundled up my 8 1/2 month old and took her outside for about 5 minutes to experience her first big snow! Her expression the entire time was one of pure curiosity! I helped her make a quick snow angel and then we went back inside and took all the layers off so she could move freely again. Since I work full-time as a teacher, we have also used this time as a bit of a nursing holiday to bump up milk supply! We also took big brother sledding and watched him have fun.
Our kids love sleigh riding. I was able to take them out the other night. Our (almost) 3 year old didn’t last too long (though she loved it) but our 6 year old had a blast. He has such fun running up the hill and racing back down. I think they enjoyed that Grandma and Baby Sis got to watch from the window as well.
My son is only two, so we go out and play in the snow and then come in and have hot chocolate (or in his case luke-warm chocolate!)
We live in Florida, so no snow days this year…but we were living in Pennsylvania last year when my little one was born and were snowed in for months when she was a newborn, simply because it was too big of a mess to get her out in! It was such a great experience for native southerners to have…and we enjoyed every second of it!
I love to play in the snow, eat the snow (yes even as a mommy I still love the taste of fresh snow), and make snow ice cream! So excited that my little guy is old enough to enjoy it this year! Last year the snow was over his head so we didn’t get to enjoy it too much.
linlin0201 at aol dot com
snowball fights and peppermint hot choc!
It is snowing today and we spent most of the morning playing in it! Now lets hope that means we both get a great nap 🙂
This is the first winter I’ve been able to play in the snow with my little guy. At 14 months old, he’s all giggles when I pulled him in his sled- SO FUN! I also like shoveling- Weird, I know. But it brings back fun memories of my siblings when we were growing up! 🙂 Indoors, I like curling up in a blanket, drinking hot beverages, watching movies and sewing projects!
when we lived in Texas we would always go out and play on the rare snow day…now we’re in Colorado and some days it’s just too cold to play! I prefer staying in and eating something warm and yummy!
Snowy day here….Mommy sang songs from the I-pod to baby….
I’m from Northern Iowa and really love snow. I wish we had more snow here in St Louis every year.
But when it does snow, I love to sled with my kids. I love rolling around with them, having snowball fights and building snowmen. Then we come inside and drink hot chocolate and sit by the fire. Once we warm up and the clothes dry out, we head back out.
This year I’m bummed b/c I’m 36.5 weeks pregnant with baby #5 and just moving around is chore. No sledding and rolling around with them this year…
We don’t get snow but on rainy days we make homemade play dough, or I dress her in a rain suit and run in the rain!
Love making smores and reading classics like Little House on the Prarie or Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates. It is isn’t raining to hard I love going to the Nelson Atkins art gallery. Kids love the Egyptian exhibit.
We go outside!!! we don’t always get a lot of snow, so when we do we take full advantage. my daughter loves making snow angels. my son just love to touch it! when we come in, we make fresh cookies, while drinking hot chocolate.
Playing out in the snow and making snow ice cream. We don’t have quite enough where I am for that yet, but I’m hoping to soon!
My perfect snow day would be to stay in our pajamas all day watch movies and bake cookies!
kids and hubby shovel the driveway and sidewalk, then they all come in and sit by the fire. School is moved to the living room in front of the fire. It makes it a cuddly, insightful day!
I love going out to play in the snow, then coming in and getting warmed up with a Starbucks or hot drink and warm cookies. Nothing beats curling up under a blanket with a movie, but that’s hard to do with a one year old!
We aren’t having any snow in Houston, but we’ve got a case of pinkeye, so we spent our morning snuggling and playing with cars and horses and puzzles from the Christmas bounty. Then an early lunch and early nap.
On a typical rain day we read lots of books and spend a lot of time dancing to playlists on the iPod.
Our little one is only 7 weeks old. So no outside play yet for us.After DH made breakfast we curled up on the loveseat and watched our neighbors sledding. We live on top of a hill so we had a great spot. Our son & dog joined us. We then talked about things we plan to do with our son. Since hubby was home he joined us in back& tummy playtimes. Later we had a game day. Day 2 has begun w/reading our 1st book from Imagination library, The Little Engine. Game day continues with the loser having to make the winner a crown and announce winners victory on the porch. Wish me luck 🙂
I have a 34 month old at home with me so our favorite activity is going out to play in the snow. I shovel and he runs around or sleds down our little hill! When we need to be stuck indoors we head to our local Children’s Museum! When my 5 yr old is home from school he loves to make hot chocolate with marshmellows when he comes in from playing outside!
I don’t normally get to stay home, but I’m still on maternity leave. We cuddled on the couch & watched sesame street on dvr, while eating breakfast. We are eating homemade tomato soup & grilled cheese for lunch. 2 yr old trying to wait patiently to wake up daddy (on night shift) to play in the snow. He wants to build a snowman. 🙂
saywah_j at yahoo dot com
making a snow man!! We spent yesterday morning out in the snow building and sledding. Then it was indoors for a warm afternoon by the fire with chicken soup in the crock pot!
We like to blow bubbles. A yard covered in snow and bubbles is fun! Finish with warm Ovaltine!
we like to look at the pretty white stuff from the inside. My husband plays snowball fights with my 4yr old.
We don’t get snow 🙁 but we do get rain.
I usually make a big pot of soup stuffed with veggies, then we spend the day watching movies cuddles up in blankets and eating popcorn (and soup). I love relaxing with the family, so when a rainy day happens I get excited!
We live in California now, so no snow days, but when I lived in Minnesota we had plenty. The were spent with Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup, hot apple cider.
Shovelling and sledding were activites we did as well as arts and crafts.
missanneperry at gmail dot com
I kind of miss snow days!!
My little one loves playing in the snow then warming up in a bubblebath.
My baby is close to fourteen-months-old now, and he has only seen snow once (as a newbie), so we’re still holding out for a good snow day! We may never see one here in Savannah. But on yucky days like today, I like to get the house nice a cozy, make some homemade soup, and find games to play with the little guy. He loves finger paints and blocks, so we spend a lot of time on the floor playing! But, we are definitely looking forward to the sun coming out again!
Hoping we get another snow day tomorrow here in WA state! After playing outside (snowmen, snowballs, etc.) we like to have hot cocoa and popcorn (what a combo!) and watch a good movie.
with my two very ACTIVE boys we like to build a fort and watch a movie, or even put the tent up in the living room and read books. Baking is usually involved as well as hot chocolate. Sometimes I even get to snag a nap with them on the couch…love cuddling!
m_hllewellyn AT hotmail DOT com
We love to have indoor picnics and bake cookies!
amberhoward at hargray dot com
When it is rainy or snowy outside, I love to make a hot cup of tea! My little guy loves to go out sledding and throwing snow balls. Inside, he likes to make forts and play hide and seek when we can’t be outside.
my kids love to go out and shovel and then make a fort with all the snow they shoveled 🙂
We love to cuddle up on the couch with our favorite blankets. We read books, watch movies, and eat special treats throughout the day. It’s like a mini holiday right in our living room!
We’re due for a snow day tomorrow out here in Boston. I just bought a pair of cross country skis second hand and I’m thinking about poppin’ my 7 month old in the ergo on my back and getting some exercise! Then cuddle up together for a good long afternoon snooze.
A cold day = chicken and dumplings YUM!
We don’t get snow very often in Austin so when the day comes, my little guy will definitely get bundled up to play in it for a bit. 🙂 Not too long though, mommy is not a fan of the cold.
Since I am A WAHM, I would imagine that our day would be like most others – reading, playing, maybe a crafty project and lots of cuddles. 🙂
I tend to drink more tea when its actively snowing outside.
Lots of baking going on here today. Banana bread in the oven, and blueberry muffins are up next. Thinking some crock pot chili is in the works for dinner. Warm and cozy is the way to go.
I’m enjoying the STL snow today too! As a teacher, I love a good snow day, expecially since becoming a Mommy! Snow days are bonus days here! Normally we bake something yummy and cook an excellent dinner, my 3 year old makes a good sous chef! Today we’ve taken it easy, played some games, and plan on taking a good nap! Later, dinner and maybe a tea party! Whatever the little one wants!
Normally we would go out and play in the snow, but there is a newborn in the mix this winter. We love to bake on snow days, we’ve been trying a new muffin recipe each time! Yesterday was whole wheat banana muffins!
Snow days are the best. We are getting our snowsuits on to go throw the ball to the dog. Then we’ll rush back in and enjoy the warmth. Warm biscuits will be ready (Ok, leftovers from last night) when we come back in. Maybe a pancake dinner tonight- breakfast all day is nice when it’s too snowy to go anywhere.
No snow days for us in orange county california, but reading this thread makes me want to live in the snow!!
On these cold mornings I stay in bed with my newborn and we chat and cuddle
My fav thing to do on snowy or rainy days is to read a book or watch movies with the fireplace on. Baby is due to arrive in the next week, so we haven’t got a fav activity to do on those days yet, but hoping he’ll sleep a lot at first! 🙂 I love a hot mocha when it’s chilly outside too.
Last winter my two year old and I loved going sledding, building snow forts and snow shoeing, This winter, we have a new baby that makes getting out in the snow a little tougher. So our new favorite activity is having a “beach party”. We crank up the fire place and put on our swim suits, have a picnic in the living room, and eat ice cream. No better way to beat the long Montana winter blues than, pretending it’s not happening. 🙂 It is currently -23* outside, and I’m happily roasting with my sons inside.
On a snowy day I like to bundle the kids up and take them outside on a sled ride!! It is so much fun! Or we stay in and watch a few cartoons!

10 degrees here, waaay to cold to go outside! We’re hanging in sweats today, about to make mint cookies…what is more appropriate for such a day? I keep telling myself to move to a warmer climate, but Autumn time here is so gorgeous I just can’t give it up.
We love having PJ and movie days here. Although, we have them when it is just cold out too. Each week, we try to stock up on new books and DVDs from the library. When it is really blustery, hot cocoa is a must have treat!

We enjoy cuddling on the couch and reading our favorite books, enjoying hot chocolate and maybe even watch a movie together

I have a 4 year old and 22 month old. They both lovve the snow. We get all bundled up, go out to play, then trek down to my moms house next door. She feeds us and we warm up a bit. Then we come home, take warm baths, and nap!
Favorite snow day activity… I love to do crafts with my 2 year old. So if its snowing, we make snowflakes to hang on the wall/windows. We also like to bake some nice chocolate chip cookies. We go outside all bundled up to play in the snow (carrying my 1 year old in the Ergo) and then come in and eat those warm cookies with some hot chocolate! If its raining, we sometimes snuggle up and watch Sesame street…

Snow day tomorrow for us. We love to snuggle up with cocoa and a good movie. I love snow days 🙂
My favorite snow activity is to play in the snow. We just don’t get it often here in Portland, OR, so even a sprinkle is exciting. When we come in to warm up, I like to make cocoa and sugar cookies.
Well in S.Florida we dont have snow days but we get a lot of rain!We also get hurricane days.Yuck! On our really rainy days we stay in watching dvds, eating chocolate&cuddling on the couch 🙂
This year, its fun to go outside and play in the snow with my 2 1/2 year old. But last year, when he was a little too young to play much in the snow, or if it was too cold to stay out for long, we brought some snow inside! We put tons of towels on the floor in the kitchen and brought in a big bowl of snow. We took out some of his play pans and cups and had a ball. We made a mini snow man and had a little snowball fight. He thought it was great!
We play in the snow and then warm up with hot cocoa and snuggle on the couch watching a movie!

My daughter is still young, so there aren’t many activities that are limited to snowy/rainy days. The storm is expected to hit here tomorrow, so I’ll be sure to bring her out in her new snowsuit and pull her around on her new sled for the first time.
Hot chocolate is definitely a must for mama though! 🙂
If its a snow day that means daddy is home with Lucas and I since he is a teacher. We love the extra time with dad, sleeping in, making omelets, and eating chips with homemade salsa, watching a little extra TV and simply savoring the blessing of extra family time!
My 15-month old and I love to sit by the window and watch the snow fall. Then when he is bored with that we read a book and snuggle. 🙂
kaleidoscopejane at yahoo dot com
I kinda want a snow day and kinda don’t. My oldest is now in preschool so snow days means no school and that makes her sad (we didn’t have a thanksgiving party because of a snow storm). Whats funny is most days are indoor days for us since we live in the land of rain (seattle). I can’t wait for a nicer day when we can go outside and play!
When its really cold though and actually snows we like to go outside and make snow angels. We tried to convince the 3 year old to make a snow man at the last snow storm but she didn’t want to. she wanted to make a snow DORA! Sadly we never got to make it cause the snow froze and then wasn’t good for building things with. However next year we’ll be living in eastern BC in the mountains and THERE WILL BE TONS OF SNOW! I don’t know how we’ll deal. probably lots of hot chocolate, lots of indoor crafts and me learning to drive in the snow!
For me I like to embroider every day. So on snow days I like to do it too. Turn on a kids show let the kids chill out and stitch stitch stitch.
Chili, YUM getting ready to warm some up for lunch now. Love to snuggle up in bed or on the couch and catch up on movies… doing something I normally don’t have time to do, it’s like time stands still on snow days when they are unexpected. LOVE SNOW DAYS!

My Daughter is 21 months old and we love to paint on snowy/rainy days. We started this around 18 months and I have kept all of her ‘artwork’. We have also had fun making homemade play-dough using koolaid to color (and scent!) it. My favorite food to make for her on a rainy or snowy day is grilled cheese and tomato soup and lots of hot tea, which she loves.
Seeing how it looks likes we are going to be having a snow week in North Alabama, Little man and I are going to do lots of snuggling on the couch with the dogs, watch tv, cat nap on and off all day, and dream about having a fireplace.
Having a snow day today! After we all managed to get back to sleep after the 4:30 am phone call to let us know school was out we slept in. Then cartoons and eggs. I’m sure my oldest will be out in the snow in a bit and then it’s hot chocolate and toast. My one year old does not walk he scoots which is not snow friendly but he linesmen watch his sister through the glass door. When he takes his nap we’ll either play outside or play board games.
Being in Southern AZ…we don’t get to enjoy snow days! If we had one, we would be outside playing in it!
We love going sledding and then drinking hot chocolate followed by a family nap!! 🙂
angburt at hotmail dot com
We take advantage of the snow to be lazy and hang around the house watching movies and playing video games guilt free. If it isn’t forbiddingly cold my daughter and her dad might go sledding and come back to a nice cup of hot cocoa to warm up.
We done have snow days but on colder days we play board games and watch movies. We also like to order out pizza! AlleyKatt22@cfl.rr.com
I’m in Arkansas and we’ve had 2 snow days now! So far we’ve had snowball fights, built a pirate snowman, made snow angels, and made snow ice cream! My favorite part was watching my 4 year old catch snowflakes on his tongue and seeing my 4 month old smile at his first snow.
Snow Day is every day where we live (up in the hills near a mountain!)! My son who is 15 months old, has been indoors a lot this winter, so we try to find creative things to do: mommy puts feed out in the snow in front of our BIG kitchen window and the deer come, and we watch! We don’t have a television, so we read together, chase each other around the house, work on learning how to walk (which is always fun)! We also play with toys, play on mommy and daddy’s big bed, and hang out. Being snowed in is difficult (I can’t easily get into town), but has it’s pluses in that I get to hang out with my little guy all cozy warm by our woodstove!
Our snow days are the kids playing in the snow and then hot chocolate to warm up and then nap time. Yes, today is nice and white and its still coming!!!
We live in Florida so no snow here but up in my home state of Ky there’s lots of snow! If I was there though after a long day of sledding I would come home and curl up with some hot chocolate and my sweet baby girl.
Cuddling up on the couch under piles of blankets and watching movies. Mmm, we don’t get to do that as often now with a new baby but it’s something I look forward to doing again.
I’m in Florida, so no snow for us.. but lots of rain for sure. I like to bake and watch movies with my little Kung Fu Baby.. We nap a lot too ’cause he loves to be outside and under this crazy weather I can not let him out.. so I nap with him and it’s fun too!. If he is in mood for playing I sit down with him on the floor and play with him.. He loves puppets and funny noises..
Snow days are best spent relaxing with a nice cup of hot cocoa (for me) and a tall glass of choc milk (the kids). we play games and cuddle on the couch with a blanket and watch good movies. Then we sometimes go outside to stomp around in the snow! fun times!
What could be more fun that cramming a two year old into hat, mittens, snow pants, boots and scarf!? The fun lasts for about five minutes until he face plants into the snow. Good times! Nothing a warm cup of cocoa and a snuggle in bed won’t fix.
theres not much me and my 3 month old can do but stay home and snuggle.
I love to stay inside, bake and drink hot chocolate! Other times, I love to just sit on the couch, watch the snow while knitting or reading and relaxing in the warm! 🙂 My LO is only 6 months but I can’t wait til he’s bigger to have some fun snow day activities with him!
gr812_2000 at yahoo dot com
sleeping in!!! And then making pancakes. Yum.
We have spent the last two days inside watching movies and playing with toys since our son is only 8 months old. I do look forward to playing with him in the snow in a few years 🙂
Snow always makes me want to watch the Lord of the Rings movies! But I am also loving that my 2 year old daughter enjoys the snow after being scared of it last winter!
My boys love to fingerpaint. We also love to cuddle up and watch Little Bear.
My little guy (14 mo) really dislikes the snow and cold, so when his big sister (5) has a snow day we spend it indoors usually making cookies and coloring. The little one loves it when his big sister is home to chase and play with! Though today school was just delayed 2 hours, so not a true snow day here today!
My little guy is only 4 months and we haven’t had a snow day (yet, it should be tomorrow). I hope to spend it getting extra snuggles, and reading.
I have a 3 1/2 year old, 2 year old, and 7 month old. They love the snow (though the littlest can’t really do much). My oldest is into doing snow angels thanks to her favorite show Caillou. When they come inside they want hot chocolate with 4 marshmallows. If it’s just too cold, I open the door and let it fog up and they draw on the condensation. It’s amazing what entertaines the little ones.

today isn’t snowing yet… but it is c-c-cold!! so my big girls and I are watching a movie with unicorns, princesses and mysteries…. and my tiny man and I are snuggling on the couch… on the menue?? ahh yes, cocoa with BOTH marshmallows and whipped cream, toast with jam, and the girls are having eggs. what an absolutely wonderful day!
My kids are little…. 21 months and 3 months, so I don’t have any major traditions for them yet, but I have a ‘snow’ day from work today so I’m home with them and LOVING the extra, unexpected day with them. I plan to light a candle, get caught up on some housework, and make a yummy homemade pizza for dinner 🙂 Oh and I just got my brand new 4.0’s prepped and started using them on our littlest today, and I’m really loving the fit!
We spent ours playing with baby, playing with Christmas presents, playing in the snow, and playing in the kitchen. As a full-time teacher, I’m appreciative of “days-on” with my little ones when I have surprise days-off!
(akuhbander at hotmail dot com) Sorry, I don’t keep a blog and don’t know how to comment here without one, other than as ‘Anonymous’.
My goal on a snow day is to try to keep the kids as busy as possible in their own spaces, so they don’t aggrevate each other. I also like to clean out and organize some.
On snow days we cozy up inside… Read, drink hot chocolate (or coffee for me!), and enjoy a hot stew dinner with homemade bread. Love, LOVE, snowdays! They make us slow down and I’ve been waiting for one all winter!
My favorite thing to do is take Corbin outside to play with the dogs in the snow. when we come in he takes a long nap and that means I get a long nap as well =)
Not that much snow here….just a dusting. And since we homeschool, we will continue as planned. But…when we get a big snow, we bundle everyone up and they go sledding and snowman building with their dad. I stay in with the little ones and have popcorn and hot cocoa ready for the older ones when they come in. It’s always nice when daddy is home to start a fire so they can warm back up in front of it before heading out again. We have 9 children, so often the younger ones can only take so long in the cold! Lots of coats, mittens, and boots around drying on those days!
Definitely staying IN!!! Too bad I’m at work 🙁
Usually our thing is watching cartoons & movies snuggled in our PJs and blankets.. Head outside to sled and come back in for some hot chocolate!
We are expecting a snowday tomorrow. We like to watch cartoons or movies, build forts with chairs and blankets, color, do puzzles.. kinda the same things we always do! 😉
Thanks Meeghan for this great tip:
If it’s to cold to play in the snow outside, we bring the snow inside. I get a couple buckets and fill the bath tub or just a big tub on the floor and we put gloves on and play till it melts. The kids (5,3,and 19 months) love it and stay warm at the same time!
We just did it w/ a bowl of snow in the sink and my 4 yr old loved it!!!
I love to make coffee and crochet. My three year old LOVES snow and because we rarely get in (in AL) when we did Sunday night we were out in it. And yesterday we built 5 snowmen and today she’s begging to go out again. seriously, when a kid only sees snow once a year, you have to be in it as much as possible. So I put down the coffee and crochet hook and my husband and I dress the 3 yr old and her 21 month old little brother who is definitely following in her snow loving footsteps! and out we go for a snowball fight!
I love watching the snow from inside and when it’s warmer than 25 out… we like to go sledding or snowshoeing. My son is 25 mo old and he LOVES making snowangels and snowballs. I love sending my hubby out with him while I make them cookies inside. 😀
Dancing to our Sesame Street DVD is a fun way to spend time inside on rainy days! We love Elmo’s Song!
We bake cookies on rainy days. No snow days for us in S.Cali wish we did it would be nice. We also like to read together my 6 year old reads to his 23 month old brother and its so adorable to watch them bond in that way. Hope this is not a double post having issues with computer sorry if it is :)- Francine Miranda frenchyloveslarry@yahoodotcom
We enjoy using our building sets on snow days. Santa brought our kids Tinkertoys this year, and so far today they are a huge hit! We also like to make french toast, and hot chocolate, to keep warm on a cold, snowy day.
Oh I’m so sad! Yesterday (warmer and snowing) I had to work so I was so looking forward to today with my 13 mo old. Unfortunately instead of going outside and seeing the 8in or so we got, we are staying indoors. It’s only about 8 degrees outside and LO has a cold so no snowplay this time!
I like cuddling with my little one and my puppy. We watch baby Einstein, play with toys, and dance together. If I don’t nap with him, I will do embroidery or read while he sleeps.
We dont get snow days here is AZ and only occasional rainy days but we like to bake cookies and stay in jammies while leaving the blinds open to see the rare but beautiful rain!
We had snow days yesterday and today! Granted my daughter is only old enough for preschool and the twins aren’t even a year old yet, but we still celebrated! We stayed in jammies all day, watching movies, and made blanket forts. Oh, and mama had lots of coffee with yummy creamers while the kiddos enjoyed some chocolate milk! =)
My wife and I love to bundle the boys up and load up in the Jeep and go ride around and see the pretty snow. Our 2 year old loves to see everything and our 11 month old just loves to nap on the ride!

My favorite activity on a snowy/rainy day is baking a yummy treat.
If it’s not too cold out I love to bundle up the kids and go for a walk in the freshly fallen snow. My 3 year old loves to look behind her and see her footprints. Then warm up with some cozy socks, hot cocoa and a cuddle under a blanket.
My 20 month old loves to watch the snow falling. If it’s not too cold, we go out in it and he just giggles when the snowflakes hit his face. Too cute!

Yesterday I took my 14 month old out in the snow for the first time and he cried. My 4 year old loves to play in it. So we came in and looked out the window while my other one shoveled snow out of the driveway (we live in the country). Then, we put our jammies back on and had a relaxing day of books and cartoons.
snow day? what’s that?? I live in southern california–we pack up the kids and drive to the local mountains for snow days!
We homeschool so snow days don’t always mean no school. But if it is particularly icky outside and we just want to be lazy we like to mix up a batch of Chex Muddy Buddies and watch a movie together, usually LOTR. 😉
my favorite thing to do on a snow day is baking, so today my 10 month old twins and I baked pumpkin bread! Any day I get extra cuddles from the munchkins is my favorite day
We love to play games, drink hot chocolate, make cookies and play with Legos! I do kick us all outside once in a while but its really too cold sometimes (I’m a SoCal desert girl originally!) I love watching the snow falling from the sky! Beautiful!
I have a 1.5 year old and a 3.5 year old. Today’s activity (in preparation of the snow we’re about to get in MI) is to get the house cleaned so we can enjoy it. Figure if we’re stuck at home, we might as well be useful. We’re having a cleaning dance party!
Staying in our pj’s and making chili and bread. oh, and lots of snuggling and reading!
We love to play with playdough!

I love to do art with my kiddie and I like to knit! Any fun baked treat to warm the house out is quite amazing as wel to make on a old winters day.
Love the snow!!!!
I stay in with my young toddler and we play all day. He loves stickers, coloring, his play kitchen, running! He loves out stay in days, because it’s pretty much unlimited play time!!
I love to crochet, and I like using snow days to work on projects. On weekends, my husband and I like to sit together on the couch and cuddle under blankets, watching the snow fall outside our big window.
we are in “sippy cup training” with our 10 month old – so we spend the day playing with her cups and learning to tip! she is also still exploring all of her Christmas gifts.
as of this morning, she figured out how to wave “hi” so we are waving at every inanimate object in the house 🙂
Today it’s 32 degrees and raining…yuck. I think I’m pulling out craft supplies for my 2 yr old and 4 yr old during my 14 mo old’s nap. Crafts are always good on yucky days.
We don’t have snow days, but we get some really good rainy days(FL)thanks to hurricane season. Favorite actives for us are board games, reading books to our little ones and telling stories. It’s always fun to hear what a 5 year old can come up with! Best part? They don’t require power 🙂
We love to make hot cocoa and do many activities like finger painting and reading our favorite books! Thanks
i love to bake on snow days! The snow day in NYC isnt here yet but will be tomorrow so ill be getting off the the grocery store soon to get some supplies for tomorrow. I think Im going to make some banana crunch muffins!
Im in California and we don’t get snow days here..but on a rainy day I prefer to stay inside. My little one is 11 months old so we just play inside. I like to have a cup of hot chocolate to warm up then a fire in the evening. If I don’t have my little one and it’s raining then I do some sewing.
caroline.hoffman at rocketmail dot com
We’ve had lots of snow this year but with a (now) 21mo old and a 4½yr old with SPD we don’t get to go play in it. I will draw them pictures of snow men and have them color them, and my 4½yr old likes to help me cut up snow flakes. They also love to watch the snow fall 🙂
We like to go out and play for as long as we can come in and put our warmest pjs. Then we read books and drink hot chocolate!
We make hot cocoa floats!
Place i scoop of vanilla ice cream in a mug, pour cocoa over it and add whipped cream and sprinkles on top! Yummy!
Yesterday and today have been VERY rare snow days for us here in Arkansas. We love to bundle up and go play in the snow and then come in to a nice big cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows and cuddle up to watch a movie with the babies.
rena31 at hotmail dot com
Ohhh! making yummy cookies and drinking hot coco!!!
Love to stay inside and snuggle up. If the little one takes a nap, I take advantage of the time to read whatever good book I have on the nightstand.
Play in the snow and then come in for some (warm) chocolate – not too hot for the little one! We just got back in. Now she’s going straight to her blocks, maybe we’ll have a (kid-tv-free) afternoon!
We make our own hot chocolate mix using powdered milk, Nestle’s Quik (chocolate powder), coffee creamer, and powdered sugar. Tastes much better than the packets, and you only have to buy once (or twice) for the whole winter, and not dispose of all the tiny packets!
Today is a snow day for us … but problem … daughter is recovering from the flu! So lots of cuddle time with daddy working from home! At least we get to all be together!!
allyson dot long at yahoo dot com
We like to watch movies together and drink hot chocolate!
We love to spend a lot of the day reading books! Snow days are no different 🙂
Since we rarely get snow, I have to bundle up the kiddos in all the layers I can (think of the kid from the Christmas Story) and then we head outside. We get our shovels and dig for a few minutes. To get them back inside, I offer hot chocolate with marshmallows. We will light a fire and cuddle reading stories or watching movies.
tammyroby at iortechnology dot com
we rarely get rainy days and never snow days! on rainy days if there is no lightning we are out stomping in puddles and enjoying getting wet. otherwise we end up watching movies and napping listening to the rain 🙂
Since it’s too cold to play out in the snow here is SD, I’ve found some indoor “instant snow.” We fill a shallow rubbermaid type container with it and my 2 yr will spend a long time playing in the “snow” with his tractors and trucks 🙂
We like to play video games together.
Our little man is only 3 months old, but when we have a snow day I like to admire the cold and white from my warm couch, with a fire going in the fireplace, maybe some hot chocolate, and a good movie.
Snow days are perfect for baking and pjs! My babe isn’t old enough for playing in the snow yet, but I’m looking forward to that — and hot chocolate and popcorn afterwards! Yum!
We usually keep the foods all warm for meals and snacks…oatmeal/muffins for breakfast, grilled cheese and soup for lunch, stew/pot pie for dinner with cookies and hot chocolate for snack. We let them play in the snow after afternoon nap, then it’s off to a warm bath before dinner. Before bed they have some warm milk and a small snack. It’s just magical waking up to a snow day!
My son wasn’t too thrilled about his first big snow yesterday, so we didn’t do anything super fun. However, when I was growing up my mom made us grape snow cones on snow days and we played Yahtzee and watched movies. It was the best!
lauren.allpress at gmail.com
Playing outside in the snow and then coming in and warming up with a hot drink by the fireplace!
Snuggle up on the couch, with hot chocolate and funnel cakes and watch movies!
Just a regular day – I’m a SAHM to two small boys. Today we made a “dry pants chain” – he gets to take a chain off every day he doesn’t have an accident. He’s been begging for another chain since his Christmas one ran out so hopefully this will be enough motivation to go to the potty before he makes a mess!
I love getting the chance to stay home with my kids and bake or cook things that take longer than I normally have time for, so I made ham and pea soup from scratch and bread. My toddler got to paint and we had family movie night.
Playing in the snow with my dog, he loves it!
Last time we played in the snow a bit. This time is just a sheet of ice over the snow. So, we will just stay inside!
I love baking on snow days. It seems to warm the house and fill it with delicious smells.
We don’t get snow days in Florida, but we do get lots of rainy days! I love to relax with a good book while the rain lulls everyone else to sleep. Thunderstorms can actually be quite peaceful 🙂
On snow days we go sledding and come home to have hot cocoa and build a BIG warm fire! I LOVE rainy days though, but we usually have movie/game days during them. So much fun!
Our favorite thing is to get all bundled up and go outside and play in it! We live in Texas, so we don’t see snow often, but last year we did get a foot!! My 28 year old husband and 12 year old nephew had more fun!! I love watching it fall from the sky!
I love to make Snow Cream (half and half, snow, vanilla mixed together) – the kids LOVE it!
We have our first cold/fever 🙁
but nothing like cuddling with your baby. We are snuggling up today, playing and doing what she wants to make her feel special 🙂
On a snow day I like to take the older kids skiing. Our little one is only 14 months so it will be a couple more years before she can come along!
On rainy days my 3 homeschooled children (and now a sweet newborn added to the mix) always make popcorn an hot cocoa, snuggle under blankets, and watch a movie.
Our favorite snow day activity is to stay in pajamas and do girly things like painting toe nails and doing make-up and hair…my 4 year old daughter thinks this is great and can’t wait till her 3 month old sister is big enough to really join in the fun!!
equestrian22 at msn dot com
I like to make colored water with food coloring and bring in a big bowl of snow. I then give my son droppers and the colored water and he paints the snow. Good fun!
our favorite snow day activity is sledding and then warming up with some hot cocoa!!
Playing trains in the basement!
I can’t wait for my son to be old enough to go sledding, but at 6.5 months we’ll be waiting till next year.
My daughter is too young to play outside much, but when my brother and I were young, we LOVED to go sledding. We had an awesome hill by our house.
beautyformyashes @ hotmail.com
We love to take our son sledding in our driveway! We have a small incline at the end of the driveway and he has a blast sliding down it in his little sled! Seeing his huge smile makes being out in the cold snow totally worth it!
His second favorite thing to do is splash in puddles. What kid doesn’t? 🙂
My favorite rainy day activity is to read by a window, so I can watch it all. Snow days are so much more unusual that I’ve got to get out there and enjoy it 🙂
elaine dot zuber at yahoo dot com
On snowy or rainy days we love to COLOR!!! 😀 And drink hot chocolate of course! I also love to spend time knitting when it’s too yucky to go outside or when I just need a little ME time 😉
We live in Louisiana, so the few times we get “snow” (if you call it that, it barely covers the grass) so when we see the white stuff I let the kids stay home from school until it is melt. They play outside until their hands are numb, then they head in and warm up with hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls. They head back out and do it all again. Usually around noon it is so warm that the snow is gone, so it is short lived fun.
slvidrine at yahoo dot com
My DD is only 6 months old so there is not alot of snowy activities we can do, but we are staying in our pj’s enjoying the warm house and doing some hardcore cleaning.
mlstanley90 at gmail dot com
On a snowy day, I put my 2 month old in a baby carrier, toss my husbands jacket over me and him, and head outside with big brother [who is 4 1/2]. i stand there and toss snowballs at my oldest who is all bundled up making forts, sliding around, making snow angels & eating falling snow. this only lasts about 30 minutes outside since there are zero kids around this area so my oldest son has nobody to play with besides me with a baby bundled inside my jacket. we then come inside, my oldest picks out a movie, and i whip up some hot cocoa. he loves to put mini marshmallows in, and they never seem to melt! but he still loves it. if we have candy canes laying around, we will toss one inside the cup.
on a rainy day, we just go outside and splash around. whoever gets the wettest, had the most fun in our game =] then we come inside, put on dry clothes, and snuggle under a blanket =]
We haven’t gotten enough snow yet to go outside and make a snowman. :/ We would love that. I love sitting inside watching the snow fall while my son makes an extra big mess of the house.
We get so much snow here that it’s not unusual, but my older one’s favorite thing to do in the snow is build snowmen once she gets in from school, while the baby loves watching the snow fall in his face – he still seems really confused by it halfway through winter!
We love to hop out our back door with our snowshoes on and take a hike on the abandoned train tracks just over the hill. Our 1 year old took his first snowshoe hike last year at only 8 weeks – not to worry he was snuggled warm in the Moby Wrap and acted as my personal heater! This year he was in a backpack and he loved being able to reach out and touch the snow covered trees.
My little guy is watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, baby sister is sleeping snuggly in her bed, and I’m working on a digital scrapbook page. All of s are still in our pajamas. It’s a perfect snowy morning.
On snowy days, I love to stay in my pjs, read a book during my son’s naptime, and cook something warm and comforting for dinner!!
My kids are not in school yet, so on snowy days we just stay in our jammies and usually have warm soup for supper.
annie8cu at yahoo dot com
We don’t get a lot of snow days here in the deep south, but when the weather is bad we stay inside and build forts! My son is almost 2-years-old now and he really enjoys playing them.
we had a snow day yesterday! We spent the morning cuddling in bed watching cartoons! Then we had a big breakfast and watched a movie! Then took out our 1 year old to play in the snow for the very firs time!!
I love to play in the snow, and then go inside to sip on a nice hot chocolate!
s.winegardner at hotmail dot com
My daughter is one…we like to push the rocker over to the window and rock & sing while we watch the snow or rain fall.
rookem123 at yahoo dot com
My favorite thing to do in the snow is get out and play! Both my husband and I fondly remember the epic snowball fights that would span the whole street and igloos we built (when we were luckly enough to get a really good snowfall) as kids. My little one is still an infant, so she’ll have to wait awhile to get to enjoy the snow though. The best way to warm up after playing outside would be with hot soup, hot chocolate, or both!
My favorite is when we come back inside after playing in the snow & share a cup of hot chocolate together!!! My son is 4 1/2 & such a fun kid!
I take to opportunity to clean the house and catch up on laundry. My 21 month old doesn’t like walking out in the snow yet and it’s often too cold here in mn. Have to stay inside and stay warm!
Here in MN every day in the winter is a snow day! We make snowmen, make snow angels, watch movies, make forts out of blankets, and enjoy each others’ company!! The 2 year old is loving it, the 10 week old doesn’t care. 😉
cyndi_steinke at hotmail dot com
I’ve just one little one and he’s only five months old so we don’t do any sledding or snow ball fights…yet! Yesterday we had a snow day of our own so I bundled him up and took him outside while the big, chunky flakes were falling. I don’t think he really cared, but I loved it!
Showlove 40 at hotmail dot com
My little boy is still really little, so we don’t have too many things we do on snow days that are different than what we usually do. However, I did take him outside in the snow for the first time last week and he had a blast running up and down the driveway in the snow. 🙂 -tess b.
After playing outside, we come in and warm up Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits!
megscoupons at live dot com
I love to curl up and watch movies and then make chili for dinner! Snow is so pretty to look at when you are warm in your house!
ooo hot chocolate!!!
Playing in the shower, lol! We have jets in the shower so it’s like a fountain!!
staying warm and eating soup. SC is not prepared for this stuff!
My favorite thing about snow days is that my husband goes out with the big boys while I stay inside with the baby! My job is to have hot cocoa ready when everyone comes in from the cold!
Snuggling on the couch under our electric blanket and reading, boo(k) after boo(k) after boo(k)with my 1 year old.
I wish I was doing it right now.
As a teacher, I loved snow days and the chance to sleep in!! Besides going outside to play in the snow, we love to stay in and build forts. Hot chocolate and nice fire are our evening activity choices.
My 17 month old loves to look out the window. She also loves to walk in it, but this snowfall goes up to her knees! She can’t go anywhere!
Those are the only days we break out the fingerpaints… 😀 fawnsisk at gmail dot com
We go outside and make snow angels and snow forts (if there’s enough snow!) and when our cheeks are nice and rosey, we come in and get some hot cocoa, climb under our warm blankies, and watch movies! 🙂 This is my favorite time to make memories with my little ones (8 and 20 months) 🙂
We always plan a “snow day menu.” My hubby cooks and gets the kids involved. We usually do veggie omelets with homefries, and make a big “feast” for dinner. We both work out of the home, so snow days are the days we have time to try out all the new recipes that we see that would be too time consuming otherwise!
Making snow ice cream and staying in our jammies all day. We live outside of St. Louis and as I type this my 2 year old daughter is next to me playing with homemade play dough, another favorite inside activity.
We don’t live in the snow but when we did our favorite thing to do was make snow ice-cream! We would get a bowl of fresh snow and mix some cream, sugar, and vanilla in with it. It would make a yummy creamy slushy :o) that’s the part I miss most.
Mom2_3boyzz at yahoo dot com
We don’t get much snow here, but my daughter and I love to put on our rainboots and go puddle jumping!
As a teacher I adore snow days! It is even more special now that it means I get a day off with my baby girl The best part of snow days is the total lack of expectation to get anything done. I love being lazy, drinking an extra cup of coffee and just watching the beauty outside.
We hardly ever get snow in Texas, but on rainy days my favorite thing to do is cuddle up and watch movies all day
My daughter’s favorite snow day activity is to go out and PLAY, then come inside, fire up the fireplace and sip hot chocolate.
My husband likes to scoop up snow and make snow cream.
I like to just watch the snow fall.
Sledding! I can remember wrapping my feet in old bread bags and spending hours going up and down a hill near my house. The best part about being snowy and cold? Hot chocolate!
Now my snow days consist of laundry and bribing a 10 pound dog to go outside in snow drifts taller than her. Not as fun as they used to be.
We don’t get snow days in Southern California, but my favorite rainy day activities include having coffee with a fire in the fireplace, and baking. My 19 month old daughter loves to doodle with crayons, and have my husband and I read her books.
On snow days I like to bake cookies with my kids and make forts in the living room!
We play silly games and watch movies. Nothing like a good snuggle when it is chilly outside.
My little guy is too small to enjoy the snow yet, so snow days are mostly just enjoyed indoors, cuddling up and happy to have an extra day without work and babysitters.
Knitting and coffee for the grownups. Books and tummy time for our wee daughter!
We live in one of the few St. Louis suburbs that did not get a snow day, so I took my 4-year-old to preschool. When she gets home, we’ll try out her brand new snow boots while she makes snow angels.
I also delivered a bunch of bread to the library for the needy. Our church gets St. Louis Bread’s donation on Monday nights.
Daddy is a super-duper hot chocolate maker, so I’m sure a few cups of that are in our future, too! It’s good to know I have plenty of food and provisions in the house. Now off to build a fire…
Well my oldest is a little over two, so he woke up this morning and looked outside and said, “Mommy! It’s Nowin!” (it’s snowing!) We will let him play outside for a few minutes, but he comes in pretty quickly. We love to make homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast and Baked Potato soup for dinner! MMMM I can’t wait for dinner tonight! (and if you want the recipes for either, just let me know!)
We go out and frolic, and then when we’re cold we come in for cocoa and hot cider!
My 10 month old loves to sit in the snow and watch our dog run around and play like crazy! She laughs SO hard when he jumps and rolls, making snow fly everywhere! Then we spend the day in our comfy warm pajamas. She loves to snuggle and read books.
My favorite snow day activity is to curl up by a warm fire with a good book and some Hot Chocolate.
Mmmm…Hot chocolate and chili. And stay inside out of the cold, at least until my baby girls are a little older. They don’t yet know what they are missing.
Well we love to have something warm to drink in our hands and make cookies. While they are baking I sit and knit. Occasionally my little guy crawls up to help me pull my yarn out of my bag. He loves to watch me make things though and I’m very thankful. Snuggling up in bed for late mornings with mom and dad (if possible) is also a favorite thing. Yesterday we got out and played in the snow. LOL my little one loves to watch snowball fly in the air and of course to eat some snow.
We like to bundle up and take the dogs out to romp in the snow. The husky can keep going and going, long after we are ready to go in!
On our cold St. Louis snow days we like to make snow ice cream! My kids don’t really like going outside in the cold but they love playing in the snow so I will fill a 35 quart tote with snow and put in on the kitchen floor, They love to make snow castles with their beach toys and little snowmen. When they are done playing I just mop up whatever melted snow got on the floor! It’s a great way to let them play in the snow without haveing to bundle them up and send them out in the cold.
My kids go outside and play in the snow! They usually last 2-3 hours playing in the stuff, even my 2 yr old! It’s pretty funny to watch my 5 yr old pull the 2 yr old up the hill in the sled.
My husband is a high school teacher, and I work part-time at an elementary school, so snow days are like an extra Saturday for us! Our daughter is only 7 months old, so we don’t really do anything special, but I know as she gets older we’ll be involved in lots of sledding and cocoa. 🙂
I had my first snow day on Sunday with BOTH of my little boys, Michael (20 months) and Samuel (5 months). Both of my little boys loved watching the snow fall. Michael even lined up his stuffed animals at the window so that they could watch the snow, too. As a rule, on most snow days, I make Turkey Chili or my Mexican Taco Stew. We also have hot chocolate and cover the top with whipped cream!!
Our favorite snow day activity is playing in the snow! When we’re done with that we have some hot chocolate and read a good book.
Today we’re spending our snow day getting rid of old clothes and toys 🙂
We bundle up to go outside and make snowmen and snow angels. Then we come in and warm up with hot cocoa. The good stuff, not instant. Then we curl up and read books all day! 🙂
We sled, watch movies, go on safari for stuffed animals with flashlights in the basement, make doll clothes and diapers with scraps, and per a friend’s idea, we plan to make playdoh, today!
We love to bake things and make a hearty soup. Oh and of course get outside to let our two year old play in the snow! 🙂
BEing from MN we get our fair share of snow days. WHen it is really bad outside I love to curl up with a blanket, by a fire and watch a good movie or read a book. Since my DS is only 7 months we haven’t really started any snow day traditons besides staying in a playing and reading but I look forward to starting traditions with him as he grows
My 7mo and I love to snuggle up and watch the snow fall.
My little one is only 9 months old, and isn’t very fond of the snow so our snow days are spent indoors. We play and have our usual cuddles and time together but for some reason when it snows I always get the urge to bake goodies! If your gonna be snowed in, you might as well have tasty treats. Last night I turned my blueberry crumb cake recipe into blueberry streusel like muffins. My husband and I have been munching on them ALL day 😀
I love it when it snows and my husband is home. On those days we suit our kids up for the cold and he takes the older ones up the street to go sledding. It gives me a moment of peace, peace I need since I’m a SAHM to 7 kids 3 months to 13 y.o.

I love driving in the rain. It’s so peaceful!
on rainy days we stay in an make a big pot of black bean chili!
It’s a good day for doing laundry. However, our little guy likes to run and play in the snow while his baby sister is snug in her bed sleeping.

I hope you all stay safe in the wintery conditions.
My kids favorite rainy or snowy day activities are drinking hot chocolate and making forts in the living room, then curling up together and reading tons of books.
My little man loves to watch one or two of his favorite shows and then we make up one of our favorite comfort foods for dinner. He loves to help mommy in her sewing room too.
Snuggle by the fire, drink hot chocolate, and read books!
We’ve had several nowadays this year. Our lovely neighbors take our toddler out to play while I stay in with the baby. Mostly we just do nothing at all, just take a lazy day
sending the kids outside to play in the snow. Then giving them hot cocoa when they come inside to warm up. 🙂
We had a snow day in Denver yesterday and had fun doing the arts and crafts thing. Finger painting, making and playing with playdough, and baking cookies. It was a fun day 🙂
we love playing in the snow on snow days! it’s usually means there’s enough snow to make snow angels and snowmen =) Then we go inside for hot cocoa for the big people and a warm bottle for the baby =)
We have a bird feeder hanging right outside our kitchen window on a Cottonwood tree. My husband takes a shovel full of extra bird seed and dumps it out under the feeder so all the birds gather on the ground. We like to sit by the window and watch all the birds against the white snow. It makes all their details pop out: orange beaks and little feet that look like twigs! Of course, our little one is only 13 months old and can get pretty excited looking outside. Her banging on the glass doesn’t allow for bird watching for too long lol!!
My little one is only a month old. But I can’t wait to start snow day traditions with her. As a kid we always came in from the snow to have hot chocolate and toast.
-Lauren Staples firstname.lastname@example.org
We had an ICE day yesterday. I made a pot of soup during naptime, we played and played and played yesterday afternoon/evening. My husband came home early too. After our Soup Dinner, we put Harry Potter on, played some more and sat, bundled up to keep warm!!
These are the things of great memories!
I have two really little ones and am pregnant, so on Daddy’s days off, he takes them out to play in the snow for a little bit, but otherwise its a lot of snuggle time and usually a jammie day. My daughter loves to wear her jammies so its a special thing for her.
PLAYING in the snow! Making snow forts, building snowmen, sledding… the good stuff!
snow day!!!!!!!!!!! We don’t really have those at my house… My eldest is home-educated and mom is stay -at-home for now!!! We curl up with a blankie and drink some hot cocoa on the days where we get a BIG snowfall!!! We haven’t had many of those this year !!!!!
We will be (read I will be forcing my children) watching Gone With the Wind and eating home made vegetable soup just like I did when i was little! I can’t wait to “share” this with them 😀
We like to get outside and shovel the driveway and sidewalks together, read books, and build inside forts.
After I get my couple of minutes to enjoy the undisturbed beautiful snow, we get out and play in it!! Sledding, snow angels, forts, and snowmen tear up our yard!! then we come in for hot apple cidar and soup.
I brought a plate of snow inside for my 11 month old to play with. She thought it was pretty fun to crunch and spread around the kitchen floor! 🙂
We like to bake and drink hot chocolate on Snow Days!
My little guy is almost two, so he loves to look out the window at the “stow”. He also loves to stomp around in his snow boots, and after we come in we have some warm apple cider. My personal preference though, is to be snuggled up by the fireplace with a good cup of coffee and my knitting!
We wake up early and play in the snow. A snowman is a MUST!!! Then we come in and snuggle with our hot chocolate and watch movies and play games. We usually go out one more time in the afternoon also after we have dried our clothes.
Besides playing in the snow, we love doing an art project or playing with something crafty, cooking/baking, and watching a special movie. Last night, we let our two-year-old try hot chocolate for the first time and her reaction was priceless! I love the excitement kids have over snow–it spreads to everyone in the family and makes the day so much fun!
WE love drinking hot chocolate and baking! Then of course, all piled in the same bed for a nice warm nap 🙂
This is the first year my little one will be able to enjoy the snow and acutally knows what a snowman is! So we’re paitently waiting (please snow please snow) for some snow to enjoy. We’ll bundle up and play ’till our cheeks are red and then come in and warm up with some hot chocolate. Mmmmm
My children are 3 years old and 8 months old, so we like to snuggle together in our pjs and read books! Next year when my daughter is walking, it will be sledding and making snow angels outside! 🙂
gorlewskifamily at gmail dot com
We paint and sometimes make cookies and cocoa. We like going out in it…but this mom doesn’t like bundling 7 kids up to go in the snow lol. That’s a lot of frozen hands and snow covered boats and coats. But it’s also a lot of laughs, snowmen and silliness.
Well, our DD is only 2 months old, so we can’t do much, but since I’m a teacher, we get a nice unexpected day off together to hang out on the couch, crochet, and watch sappy movies! Lovin’ it!
Staing in my PJ’s, drinking coffee (or tea!) and knitting 🙂
I love hot cocoa and cozying up in my PJs. My baby is 10 months, so I might take her out for a minute to see the snowfall at most. When she is older though, we are going to have a blast playing outside.
to make snow days extra fun I like to make sure I have a variety of games to play and hot cocoa to drink. MMM. We haven’t had any snow days this year though 🙁
Kristin15172004 AT yahoo DOT com
would love to be home playing in the snow with our kiddo, and then coming inside and snuggling up with a book. stlellen at gmail dot com
My husband and 3-year old go out and throw snowballs at each other while I stay inside with the baby (6 months). My favorite part is having the Swiss Miss ready when they come inside to enjoy while snuggling on the couch!
I took my 6 month old out in the snow for the first time this weekend! She had a super cute snowsuit and made her first snow angel. Yesterday we put her in an infant sled and pulled her around the backyard. I can’t say she loved it, though – maybe she gets that from me. Bring on the summer!
My son is almost 2 and we recently discovered the joy of a rice tub. Fill up a rubbermaid tub with rice and put scoops, cups, and little toys in it…toddlers can have fun for hours (as long as they keep the mess in the tub)! 🙂
Building snowmen is always fun too and drinking apple cider! 🙂
jennifer_atchison at hotmail dot com
My little one is just over a year but when it’s snowing we love to look outside and watch it fall! I’ll describe what objects the snow is covering in our backyard and then talk about springtime…when the snow will all be gone!!
My favorite snow day activity is to stay in my pjs and curl up with a good book and a hot cup of tea. When I was little I enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate and warming by the fire when I came in from the snow. I can’t wait until my little one can make the same memories.
Ahhhh! I LOVE snow days, and I have since I can remember! Snuggling, listening to music, watchin’ movies, baking, arts and crafts and GOOD FOOD! I have two boys under 3, and we are home bound a LOT of the time! We always make it special, together 🙂 Rather than cocoa, or tea.. My babies LOVE hot orange juice! I read about this a while ago, and how it soothes soar throats, but ALSO boots the immune system! It is actually better than hot apple cider, to us! We like to make cookies, something as easy as sugar cookies, but letting them decorate with icing and sprinkles! Our favorite “movie of the week” has been “The Land Before Time”.. We get under our warm blankies, with some snacks, and hot juice, and lay together while laughin’, cuddling, and usually turns into tickle fests 🙂 There’s nothing like having the “excuse” to spend the whole day together, having fun and relaxing! Today for instance, we are making our own birdfeeders! All complete with pine cones, peanut butter, cereal, and birdseed 🙂 Nothing like snuggling next to a fluffy BUMGENIUS bum 🙂
We are having so much fun playing outside, sitting by the fire, making popcorn and hot chocolate, and having family time. It’s rare to have this much snow in SC, so having the whole family snowed in together provides a rare opportunity to relax, have fun, and make some memories!
My son is only 6 months old, so he isn’t into the whole snow thing yet. But he loves looking out the window! We will sit in front of the window and watch the snow fall…..along with the occasional window slobbering (him, not me lol)
jennifer dot gartside at yahoo dot com
Snow days I love to curl up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate, a warm blanket and watch tv or a movie and snuggle with my little girl. My daughter is just old enough now to be able to go out side and play in the snow and go sledding. We are getting the snow here tomorrow. I think I may even attempt to build a snow man.
sarah (at) 2ghz (dot) net
We are having our first big snow together now! My girls are 3 1/2 year old twins and a 14 month old! We have enjoyed making snow cream together and all camping in the den last night! We have alot of snow so I am sure there will be more memories to be made!
I like to stay in my pjs and read books under the warm blankets.
snuggle and watch movies 🙂
I love baking with my 4 year old daughter. I like to stay in where it’s warm. Her daddy likes to take her outside to play in the snow.
I love snow! So does my two year old. He loves to build snowmen and make snow angels. And I have to have chai tea on cold days!
My little one is a year old. She hasn’t been out in the snow yet. But my best friend and I would always go out and make snow angels together 😉 I cannot wait to teach her that! For right now I drink tea and show my daughter the snow for a few minutes outside.
On a snowday I love staying in my pj’s all day! Then usually in the afternoon bundling up, playing in the snow then coming in for coffee and cocoa!
I used to be a teacher and prayed for SNOWDAYS….love them!
We love hot tea on cold days. Since I am a stay at home mom and we are home most of the week staying in on a snowy day is unlike most days. The cabin fever comes when it is numerous days in a row. Before baby sister was born my older daughter and I would have bundled up and played in the snow. Baby sister is still to young to go outside in extreme cold we have been having. So we are making the best of it and playing with her doll house and kitchen. I have also been riding my indoor bike that I got for my birthday from my Hubby!!!!
Staying in with my 2yo who likes to make carpet “snow angels” and snuggling with my 6mo. Looking forward to next winter when we will hopefully be in a rental house with a yard instead of an apartment complex, and going out to play in the snow will be easier!!
We love to watch movies as a family 🙂
jaje1 at yahoo dot com
We love to get our sled out and pull the kids over to their Grandma’s house on the snow covered streets and sidewalks! It is a nice change of pace from our normal walks with a stroller, and it’s a fun way to travel around our little town!
We live in florida so we dont get snow lol but we get alot of rain and for us it get cold. What my son (3 yrs) and i do is make hot cocoa for him with most of it whipped cream lol and we love finger paints, yesterday i let my daughter (9 months) “finger paint” with the cool whip they had a blast!!!
We also make snow ice cream and bake some thing….today a bundt cake. We ALWAYS play in the snow!
Our favorite thing to do is hang out in our jammies and do puzzles, play with clay, do arts and crafts, and snuggle together on the couch under a nice warm blankie!
My girls love to paint. My brothers bought them each an easel for Christmas and so far it’s been the best gift yet. We had a snow day last week here in NJ and painting on an easel is so much more fun that just using a table! 🙂
We love to take our 13 month old outside to play in the snow. He likes to pat the soft snow and to crumple it in his hands. We can’t stay out too long though; he hates cold hands!
Baking special treats, sledding outside, and of course tents under the kitchen table!!
When it’s raining, we love to cuddle up together on the couch with warm drinks and read books.
My son likes getting pulled around the block in the infant toboggan. He tasted his first snow ball last snow and was very curious! Fun rainy day activities are going to the mall play area or just playing inside.
I love to knit while the bigger kids play out in the snow. They build snowmen, snow angels, and forts, and I welcome them inside with homemade hot chocolate and cookies. I love to make homemade soup and bread too, but the baby has to take a longer nap to accomplish that.
DH just introduced me to snow cream yesterday for the first time. How was I missing out on this my whole life??! It is now definitely my new snow day tradition. 🙂
My 2 year old loves the snow, so on a rare day when we have enough, we like to go sledding. Hopefully we can start skiing soon!
We make snow cream. Yesterday I started a new tradition and baked cinnamon swirl bread. SOoooo good.
We have these large windows in our house, and it makes it so much fun to watch the snow or rain. Our two year old just stands there in awe. We also like to watch movies and do an activity together.
Chocolategirl81 at rocketmail dot com
We rarely get snow so we like to get out and enjoy it!
ALWAYS have to make snowcream! Then sledding on our great-aunts big hill. Then we warm up the little ones with hot chocolate made on the woodstove and classic Winnie the Pooh videos. Snow days are the BEST because they give me those few extra moments to snuggle, play, and cherish the time I have with my precious babies. Because just like babies, snow days will be gone all too quickly…
Couch. Blanket. Movie. 🙂
While the snow is very pretty, I always say I was born, raised and am living in the wrong state!! I live in MIchigan and we def. get our fair share of snow!!
My favorite snow day activity is sitting by my table working on a puzzle while the older kiddos are outside playing in the snow and the younger two are napping! 🙂 Or when they go to bed! 🙂
I always bake something for breakfast (today was biscuits) and we watch movies under blankets!
Kaylynn, Kinslee and I love to go outside and build snowmen if the snow is wet enough to pack, but when its not… just playing outside, making snow angles, and sledding is just fine with us. Kaylynn’s favorite snow activity is definitely eating it! When we come back inside, we snuggle up under a warm blankie and watch Toy Story 3, eat popcorn and have hot chocolate! 😀
We <3 snow days!
We enjoy playing in the snow! My boys love to fly down their slide when its icy! If we stay in we watch cartoons or play games! And you can’t forget a big bowl of potato soup!!
We almost always go play in the snow. Followed by a nice cup of home made hot chocolate (with soy milk)
Lots of crafts during indoor time too! Our new favorite is making paper balloons and fortune tellers.
Baby girl is only 17-months-old so there isn’t a whole lot of difference between snow days and regular days, but if the weather is very nice, and the snow is powdery I love to dress her up in her tiny boots and warm pants and jacket and let her stomp around in it and try to make snow balls.
As for food or drink, I love a hot sweet cup of fruit tea or semi-sweet hot chocolate with a good book and a purring cat on my lap (next to the nursing baby).
We choose art activities like finger painting. We look out the window and create what we see 🙂
I like to knit while the little guy watches Sesame Street Old School.
Snow days are great for curling up together with a good movie and a good book if there’s time. 😉
We haven’t had a snow day yet, but lots of rainy days! We liketo go to baby friendly cafes with play areas and have a yummy snack and play with different toys!
Our favorite snow day activities would be to have a good, old fashioned snowball fight and then head inside for some hot chocolate to warm up.
Love to cuddle by the fire with my sweeties!
My little on is 8 months and he’s not a big fan of the snow! On our snow days we enjoy reading books and cuddling…it’s so cozy!!
rboreing (at) gmail (dot) com
I love curling up on the couch with my girls watching the cold day from our wonderful living room windows. Coffee for me, coco for them and some books. Later we have ‘races’ and play chase to keep active; I love that my house has room for running! Hoping for a snow day here in Portland, OR!! Doesn’t happen very often but they are calling for snow today:0)
We love to get bundled up and go snow shoeing! Then make snow men and drink hot chocolate!
we like to investigate snow flakes. we place black construction paper out for the snow to land on then we quickly examine the unique flakes before they go away. Lot’s of fun for everyone! and then of course we warm up inside with hot cocoa and yummy soups.
My son is only 8 months old so we can’t do too much. We stay inside and read storybooks and play with toys on the living room floor! I do look foward when we get to go romp around in the snow!
making snow cream! eggs, cream, vanilla, sugar and SNOW. The eggs are raw though. 🙂
olivia at jrhdesign dot com
My boys are itching to go outside, but it is only 19 degrees here! We are going to curl up and watch Godzilla (and hopefully keep my boys from fighting)!
Our family tradition is to make donuts on snow days, yummy!!!
Not much snow here in Texas, but today is MUCH colder than we’re used to! My sweet little girl and I have always cuddled first thing in the morning, but she got to sleep with Mama and Daddy last night. We had extra cuddle time this morning for sure!
Sledding, building a fire in the wood stove and making peppermint hot chocolate! I wish we were having a snow day today 🙂
We had our snow day yesterday. My husband works for the local college, so he got the day off and I, unfortunately and fortunately, work from home, and still had to work. But it was SO much fun to take a break, drink some coffee holding the baby by the bay window and watching my almost 3yo and her daddy play in the snow. Nothing beats seeing the excitement in a little girl’s eyes when her daddy plays with her, in the snow no less!
My 17 month old doesn’t last too long out in the snow — about 20 minutes, max. I usually let him take a long mid day bath for some special fun just like on rainy days.
My little guy is too little still for snow day activities (only 6 months), but I get my 6-year-old nephew when school is closed. We drink hot chocolate and do arts&crafts projects. On rainy days (when it’s warm out) we go on ‘puddle walks’ and try to splash in every puddle we see!
Whenever it snows (not too often here in the PNW), my kids expect hot chocolate 🙂 So we make a pan of it on the stove, and sit together at the table and sip away while we watch the snowflakes fall out the window 🙂
My baby is 7 months old. We have snow here in Garden City, KS, but less than an inch… People around here don’t like the snow and cold, so we bundle up and go about our normal activities. The roads are empty and the shops are quiet… it’s kind of nice!
My little one is only 11 months, but he seems to enjoy the cold. Just stepping outside on cold days is a fun activity for him. We run out and get the mail, or just look at the snow.
We love to have a nice big cup of hot chocolate, and get out some toys we forgot about and rediscover them!
I like to crochet while we watch movies. The current favorite is Finding Nemo, where my little one points out all the colors of the fish. She also has her own bit of scrap yarn with which she tries to mirror my crochet movements.
If it’s just raining and not too cold out, we’ll go play in the rain for a little bit. We tend to only go out in the snow if the wind isn’t too bad.
We actually have a Disney Family & Fun magazine “Rainy Day” activity kit. We got it from Walmart for $10. It has all kinds of small & fun activities & crafts to make.
One good thing is to put on some kids tunes & dance to them with the kids. It’s always great to bake some cookies or brownies with the kids as well. We love reading over here so snuggling together with a book is fun as well.
And of course, cloth diaper laundry! 😉
My 9 month old likes to stand at the back door and watch the snow fall. Once the snows has stopped we’ll throw out some bread for the birds to eat.
We love to take long walks through town while it’s snowing.
My favorite snow day activity is to play outside w/ my 3.5 yo son. He’s just now beginning to really enjoy playing in it, and I’m looking forward to making snow angels and igloos as more snow falls this winter. 🙂
With my twin preschoolers, we usually have a movie day (they love it!) The baby loves to stand at the back sliding door and watch it snow! THEN after the snow stops, it’s time to bundle up the twins…..easier said than done…to play in the snow for a while!
Snuggling on the couch under a big fluffy blanket with my hubby, my baby & 2 of the 4 cats, with a fire in the fireplace, drinking hot chocolate and watching it snow out our big picture window while watching Food Network.
I like keeping my son in jammies as long as possible. I also like staying in them as long as I can, too! I really like the exciting feeling of a weekend in the middle of the week the best! Teachers love snow days, too! I bet my idea of snow days will change as my son grows from a toddler anxious about stepping in snow to a boy who loves to sled! I will be a busier momma!
We love to cook something hearty like a stew or bake cookies!
ecofish11 at gmail.com
We love staying in our jammies, curling up on the couch, and watching good movies! It’s the perfect excuse to not leave the house!
Chili or stew is a must for a snow day lunch…and during \\ like to stay in and bake cookies color and if everyone is home a family nap is also a must! (and sorry about all the \\\ marks…my youngest son felt he needed to contribute)
During our snow days we always have a day long movie fest, including our very favorite movie Polar Express. We make popcorn and hot chocolate and cuddle up in my bed.
Snow days in Michigan don’t mean you have to stay inside, quite the opposite! There’s snow people to build, sledding, snow angels, snowball fights… Endless possibilities! After playing out in the snow, there’s always a hot cup of cocoa or tea waiting and usually some soup and hot sandwiches. Naps are sure to follow 🙂 Kristen F. designbykeea at gmail dot com
Something tasty in the crock pot, coloring on the kitchen floor and a batch of brownies makes a perfect snow day. Until I have to go out and shovel while the babies are napping.
We love to make snow ice cream. You wisk together 1 C. milk, 1/2 t. vanilla, and 1/2 C sugar then mix in snow until you get the consistency you want for your ice cream.
I actually love it when it’s really snowy outside right now. My son is only 11 months and I’m a stay at home mom, so we don’t have to worry about going out in it. My son loves to stand at the sliding door and watch all the snow fall. I usually have a hot cup of tea and we enjoy watching the snow fall from our warm house 🙂 When he is older I look forward to being able to go out and play in it with him!
Honestly? Cleaning. I hate to clean. But on snow days when the hubby is home, it is so nice to get some things done when he can help watch the baby. And I can take the whole day to get one project done. No need to rush. Clean a little. Get a little distracted with email. Clean. Have a snack. Snag a kiss from my baby. Clean. Kiss the hubby. It is heavenly.
We don’t get snow in Central Florida, but on rainy days, we like to spend the day reading books and watching my oldest’s favorite movies. 🙂
Snuggle up with a cozy blanket and some good books!
Snow angels and hot chocolate!!!
If it’s to cold to play in the snow outside, we bring the snow inside. I get a couple buckets and fill the bath tub or just a big tub on the floor and we put gloves on and play till it melts. The kids (5,3,and 19 months) love it and stay warm at the same time!
I enjoy “bunkering down” with my little one and staying in our PJ’s…or at least comfy clothes. I’ll do laundry and drink hot cocoa. We relax together instead of being busy.

We very rarely get snow in SE Georgia, but when we get ice and rain it’s nice to stay inside, cuddle up with the kiddos and either read or watch movies. Baking cookies is a great idea, too.
I love snow days for the forced relaxation and peace that they seem to bring. My favorite activity is probably watching a movie with popcorn and hot chocolate after returning from some outdoor play time.
pajama day! Today we are just spending the day in pj’s we will most likely read “The Jacket I Wear in the Snow” and eat some soup before the day is over!
we try to get out and enjoy the snow as well. We also make icecream out of snow and make homemade hot chocolate.
the kids like playing in the snow, but i think we all prefer the coming inside and drinking hot chocolate and eating cookies part!
I grew up in Asia so I’m not crazy about the snow. I’m enjoying knitting and baking today though, and pretty soon my son and I are going to enjoy cleaning his room. 🙂
My little one is only 10 weeks old but yesterday was her first snow – so to celebrate that snow day we went out and took pictures of her in the snow, stayed in our jammies and make cookies. I think as she grows we wil be out looking for the best sledding hill since that’s what Mama loves!
My favorite snow day activity is to stay in, put on a good movie, and scrapbook. Something about the quiet of the snow that makes me want to reflect on happy memories.
My girls like to go outside and play in the snow. I make hot chocolate when they come in and we all snuggle up and watch a movie.
On a rainy day we stay in and have movie day, with popcorn, kids movies, the works. On snow days, I love to play outside with the kids and then come in for a cup of hot cocoa.
We love popping some corn (even early hours of the day) snuggling up in bed with the curtains open just enough to see the snow falling and watch some movies. Once we finally get the “lazy” out of us we’ll open the curtains all the way and the boys try to count the flakes. That doesn’t last very long though – I think the flakes win that battle 🙂
I’m a teacher, so snow days have special meaning for me! =) My favorite thing to do is stay inside in my pajamas all day and relax. I enjoy taking the free time to get caught up on some things at home, which is something I usually find relaxing. I also like doing Christmas-y things if it’s a pre-Christmas snow day.
We love doing puzzles and drinking hot chocolate on snow days!
We’ve only had one “real” snow day with our son and we made a snowman. On rainy days we like to open the blinds and cuddle on the couch to read a book while watching the rain.
Yeah, my baby is only two and a half months old so he’s not into anything right now besides eating, sleeping, and drooling on me. 😉
I do enjoy to drink a warm cup of coffee and knit a bit. A lot of people want blankies in this weather!
Ours is hot chocolate…after a romp in the back yard, usually involving my 6-year-old’s sled and my 2-year-old’s shovel, they come in, breathless, demanding hot chocolate, a book, and a snuggle. LOVE snow days.
I live in SoCal so no snow here! I love the rainy season, however. Rainy mornings are the best sleeping weather after working a night shift.
We enjoy staying in and watching movies. This is the second day we have been snowed in:)
hismrs2010 at aol dot com
On cold rainy days in WA I love to bake cookies for the soldiers in my husbands unit!
We build forts, play Just Dance kids for the wii or play board games. If we have to stuff we need we bake cookies or muffins also

I’m a teacher and I’ve had two snow days in a row now. I’ve spent them cooking and freezing meals for when the baby gets here! Only three more weeks!
My son is only 9 months old (today, in fact!) so we don’t do a whole lot, but on days when we’re stuck inside, we crawl around the entire house, chasing after our two dachshunds 🙂
Ahhh… snow days! Right now, my daughter is only 7.5 months, but I cannot wait until she’s old enough to really enjoy a “snow day”! I can smell the hot chocolate on the stove now, after we come in from sledding down the hill in front of our house!
And we definitely will continue the tradition of making snow cream, like my father ALWAYS made me when I was home for a snow day!
Staying in our pjs! There is something about being forced to stay in that can be kind of nice and relaxing. 🙂
My little one is only a month old, so we just stay in and cuddle! I’m looking forward to the day when we can go out and make snowmen, though!
I love snow, it’s fun to ski, sled or snow shoe. I also enjoy staying inside and building a fire. It’s also a great time for some warm comfort food like pot roast.
My little guy is only 14 months old.. they aren’t too many activities that we can do yet. I love taking him out side when it is snowing though. The wonder on his face is magical. It reminds me that simple things can be beautiful and can make your day great.
As for soething I have to have a snowy day… homemade hot chocolate. I tend to make it by the cup so I won’t drink as much. 1 cup hot milk, mixed with 2 Tbsp baking cocoa, 2 Tbsp sugar (or sweetner subsitute of choice to equal same amount as sugar), and a dash of salt. Once blended together well… make sure your cocoa doesn’t clump! add 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract. You can top it with anything you like… peppermint candy, cinnamons, whipped, cream or marshmallows! Yum. I good book and a cosy blanket are also nice to have if I get time to read!! 😉
Favorite snow day activity is to get out & enjoy the snow!! Sledding, snowball fights, snowmen, we love it all!! It takes alot to bundle up my 5 boys, but it’s always worth it!! Then we come in and enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate 🙂
