Thursday Giveaway: Happy Father’s Day!
June 13, 2013 8:39 am | by

Father’s Day is a pretty big deal to my family. Since my house is filled with five women and three female dogs, my dad is significantly outnumbered.  My sisters and I are — admittedly — the epitome of a “daddy’s girl,” so I suspect that could be why Father’s Day is really important to us. Of course, we try every day to show our dad how grateful we are for all that he’s done, but sometimes, with the general chaos of life, the message doesn’t get through as clearly or as frequently as we hope. Dads hold a very dear place in

Cloth 101: Snaps vs. Hook & Loop
June 10, 2013 12:14 pm | by

This post is somewhat of a conversion story. When I first started cloth diapering, I was hook and loop all the way, baby! I’d never diapered a baby before, and hook and loop mimics the ease of disposables. You just pull the tabs tight and let go. What could be easier? My entire stash consisted of BumGenius 3.0 (now 4.0‘s) and AIO Organic (now Elementals) hook and loop diapers. A big advantage of hook and loop is the smaller learning curve for other caregivers. We had a nanny for my son’s first year of life, and it was easy for

Thursday Giveaway: Keep it Simple!
June 6, 2013 9:15 am | by

“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” – Confucius  As humans, we tend to make things confusing. I do this. You most likely do this. My computer especially does this. And everyone I know does this. Sometimes, it’s best to take a step back and figure out what truly matters — in nearly every aspect of life. The idea of keeping things simple is something that can be applied to any situation, even cloth diapers. For this week’s giveaway, we’re keeping it simple and three people will win an Econobum Trial Pack, pair of bumGenius BabyLegs

Real Mom Talk: Delivering at a Birth Center
June 4, 2013 9:01 am | by

Hi! I’m Jenny, and I had two natural births at the same birth center — in two years. I get a lot of questions about my experience at a birth center, so I thought I’d write down a few thoughts for any of you moms out there who might be considering a birth center for your next baby’s birth! The room in the birth center where both my babies were born What is a birth center? First of all, a birth center is not a hospital, although many birth centers in urban areas are located right next to a hospital

Cloth 101: Can I afford to cloth diaper?
June 4, 2013 8:58 am | by

Can I afford to cloth diaper? If you can afford to purchase disposable diapers each week, then yes, you can definitely afford to cloth diaper. One of the most common things I hear from parents who are considering cloth diapers is “I can’t afford it.” But when I listen to someone say that particular phrase, all I hear is, “I can’t afford cloth diapers right now.” One of the biggest misconceptions about cloth diapers is that you need to purchase a huge stash of five dozen diapers upfront. This isn’t true. What you do need to purchase is enough cloth

Thursday Giveaway: Gotta have ’em all!
June 4, 2013 8:55 am | by

I’m not a mom (yet) and I do not own any cloth diapers. If I had kids, I know for a fact I would hoard every single bumGenius 4.0 and Freetime to exist. I’m pretty obsessed with the Artist Series diapers by Chelsea Perry and can totally understand why cloth diapers are addicting 😉 But like I said, I’m not a mom (yet), so I have to find something else to collect for the time being. When I find a product I love, whether it be jewelry, nail polish, or sunglasses, I have to get it — in every single color or

June 4, 2013 8:53 am | by
Prepping Cloth Diapers

Want to save a few extra bucks this summer? Of course you do! Who doesn’t? Here’s a tip: Don’t buy swim diapers! With the insert removed, bumGenius 4.0s, which are still Buy 5, Get 1 free, work as a swim diaper. So now you’re probably wondering, “Will pool chemicals harm my beloved cloth diaper or void my warranty?” The answer is NO! Pool chemicals will not affect or harm the function or quality of your cloth diapers. Just be sure to rinse your diapers thoroughly after use at the pool or beach. If you have an extra bumGenius 4.0 lying

Mod Sleeper by MOD’Swad
May 17, 2013 12:24 pm | by

Fact: Babies like to be swaddled. It’s soothing, comforting and provides a sense of security like a mother’s womb. There are a few different ways to swaddle your baby and one of the most common is with a blanket. But, aside from blankets, there are other swaddling methods, too. Similar to a Woombie, the Mod Sleeper is the ultimate in children’s loungewear! These one-piece sleepers are soft, breathable, and perfect for tangle-free swaddling. The Mod Sleeper softly confines arms and legs, gently compressing your baby’s body, but allows your little one to stretch extremities as needed. Unlike a swaddle blanket,
