How to Solve Night Time Leaks with Cloth Diapers #bumgenius #cottonbabies #clothdiapers

As your baby sleeps for longer stretches, their overnight diaper will likely need more absorbency to hold more pee. A common question we receive is what can parents do for an overnight cloth diaper solution. The good news is that you have many options to prevent nighttime leaks! Cloth diapers are versatile and we can help you find a solution that works for your family.

Add an Extra Insert Overnight

Pocket diapers are a favorite because they can be used in many ways. bumGenius Original Pocket Diaper 5.0 includes a one-size microfiber insert and a diaper doubler/newborn insert. Including both inserts may be enough absorbency for overnight. You can also buy additional one-size inserts if you would like to double up.

Another combination is to wrap a Flip Organic Cotton Daytime Insert around a bumGenius One-Size insert. Use what you have on hand to see if you can find a combination that works.

Overnight Inserts

Flip Organic Cotton Nighttime Inserts are designed to do the trick for overnights. The organic cotton is very soft and will feel great on baby’s bottom. These inserts are thick and have seams sewn across similar to a prefold. Fold on the short side for smaller babies and long ways for bigger babies.

Hemp

Hemp is an ultra-absorbent natural fiber that works well as an overnight solution. Hemp absorbs slower than microfiber, so for some, it’s good to put a stay-dry layer between the baby and hemp. Hemp holds more liquid than other fibers, so it’s not as bulky as some other options.

Wool

Often nicknamed a bulletproof overnight solution, fitted diapers with a wool cover contain leaks for even super soakers. Wool has some interesting qualities. It is naturally antimicrobial and can go days or even weeks between washing. Wool does need some extra care called “lanolizing.” Read more about caring for wool here.  Renewable and breathable, wool can be a great solution.

Fitted diapers work well underneath a wool cover, but you can get creative and use just about any insert you like. For instance, you could use a prefold with pins or a snappi.
